The food here is really great and the pastries and even better but the service isn’t always the best. It’s not a place that you should eat if you are in a hurry.

So my husband had decided that we were going here for Father’s day before reading he reviews. I felt really nervous after reading the reviews and honestly after reading the reviews I did not want to go. I was especially nervous because we had 2 kids with us and I was nervous about the kids being too noisey with the fear of being ask to leave or whatever. Anyways the service today was fine. Our server was average. Not terrible but not amazing or anything. The portions are unessasary large. So happy that my husband and I decided to share. We got the gourmet omelette. I really enjoyed the cinnamon bun. The Omlette not so much. As soon as I cut through I saw a pool of oil building on my plate(see pic). This really grossed me out.

I’ve been taking my family here for quite some time. The breakfast is always good and the service is almost never an issue, except for today. Today I took my wife and 1 yr old daughter here for breakfast and they sat as near the bar area. Our daughter was hungry and was getting antsy waiting. We kept her busy and she was laughing and sometimes squealing as she was playing, which we were getting her to stop doing as it was a bit louder then a typical conversation. The waitress brought our food and my wife started cutting some up for our daugher. We literally had our food for a minute or two when an older woman showed up to our table with a smile on her face, she didnt introduce herself but we found out later she was the manager. While maintaining what looked like a playful smile on her face she said she was sorry but needed us to leave as she was getting a lot of complaints about our daughter. My wife and I were waiting for the punch line to this joke. We thought she was being playful and about to say something funny, but all she said was sorry and left. Obviously this made my wife upset as soon as we realized she was serious, so I had her leave to the car while I packed our food in boxes so we could feed our daughter her breakfast in the car. This is a family restaurant, or so we thought, full of other kids being a lot more louder than ours. Did we upset someone in the bar with a hangover? Couldnt they either move that person or offer to move us to another table? Our waitress and several others were stunned and said no one had complained to them. They apologized profusely and said sometimes the manager can be a bit cranky. When my wife called and talked to the«manager» she claimed to have never had asked us to leave and flip flopped on her story. As long as they have that kind of person«managing» their restaurant I dont see ourselves going back there. If you go and take kids, make sure they dont make a peep or you might get kicked out too!

I witness this place ask a family to leave because of a quietly crying child! I am disgusted and will forever regret ever enjoying this place for such rude manamngent.

I came upon this place on Unilocal and ran across a few good reviews so I decided to have dinner here with my family. It was decent, but not delicious. I had the bbq mix with garlic mash & French fries and the only thing good in the platter were the French fries. The meat was chewy and hard to eat. I got a Pepsi and the soda was flat, and when I asked the waitress to exchange it for another drink she looked annoyed. There was TVs all over so you do have entertainment but the TVs are in front of tables so when you watch it, it looks like your staring at people eating their food. Creepy. 3 stars because the dessert was good, although the boy who helped us with the dessert in the front counter forgot to add on our cookies… The red velvet cupcake on the other hand is yummy!

Great spot with outstanding food, service and prices. The amount of food you get for the price is totally worth it!!! There’s a huge wait on the weekends so try to sit at the bar if there’s only 1 – 2 people.

Probably my favorite happy hour anywhere. Drinks range from $ 3-$ 5, huge portions of food for $ 2-$ 4. Definitely recommend the Irish nachos, it’s a huge serving big enough for the table to share for under $ 4. Very cheap to get a nice buzz and a full meal here. Even when it’s not happy hour the prices are low, and most of the food is too much to finish. Definitely recommend this place to everyone

We have driven by this place many times but last night after driving around for somewhere to eat we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 7pm and their was a waiting list and we were told about 15 to 20 min wait . We actually got seated in 11 min. Every booth and table were occupied. My wife and I decided to order the Top Sirloin & Shrimp. The food was good and the waitress was very polite and always checked on us if we needed anything else. The restaurant was clean and you had big screen TV’s to watch baseball, hockey, and basketball. If you are looking for a quiet place to eat I suggest you go somewhere else as this restaurant is packed and the ambience is loud. And saved some room for dessert and had a slice of banana cream pie. We definitely be back.

My husband ordered the pancake sampler. It came with 4 pancakes: buttermilk, banana and pecan, blueberry, and apple cinnamon. WOW, it was HUGE, we totally could have shared this. Both kids ordered ham and cheese omelets and I ordered the eggs Benedict. The ham was sliced very thin. In the omelets there was a TON but in tiny pieces. In the eggs benedict thin pieces. I like the ham in the eggs benedict to be thicker. My hash browns were on the salty side. Included in the kids meal you get a cookie from the bakery. Wow so many choices and the cookies were HUGE. My daughter and son shared a cookie because it was huge and only my daughter got a kids meal. Overall it was good.

Mix between Long Beach’s Bake N Broil and The Potholder Café! The MEXI-Mess was great, flavorful and filling. I got the full order, $ 9.95. Two full portions, one for now and later. Shared an order of the French Toast Finale… DELICIOUS. The cream cheese was epic. Reminded me of a funnel cake but way better! The French Toast itself was great, fluffy on the inside, toasty on the outside. Service was decent. Nothing to brag about. It got the job done!

This place is yummy for some hearty good food. We like to go on our lunch break they have great sandwiches-we should share! It’s an older family type of crowd. They have a great selection of pies and muffins and cookies. I never get anything after the size of these meals. How could you but then again I’m not the dessert kinda girl. My only negative comment about this place is I’m Not a fan of the soda here it’s Pepsi and it just doesn’t seem like they have enough carbonation? Soda is flat! Yuk!

Summary: Friendly, straight forward American diner & bar with excellent happy hour choices. Pros: Happy hour for most taste buds Cons: None really. Gourmet Pie Company does what it does well, serve typical American fare at reasonable prices. Everything was enjoyable, all the happy hour items were $ 2-$ 5 dollars, including a good number of drink specials. This is a great place to hang out with some friends, order all kinds of stuff like nachos, chili fries, hot dogs and if you’re into Fireball, one of their 4 based drinks. They also have other drinks, like a Long Island Iced tea is $ 4.75. That’s very reasonable! Definintely a fan.

Ok, I get it now!!! Go here for breakfast. If you are here after 2:00 pm, run away. Country fried steak… amazing. Cinnamon roll accompaniment … Amazing. The fruit cup is pictured! I took a photo of the fruit cup it was so good. I could go on, and I will. Waitress was super nice and helpful. The seats comfy. We have passed this place many many times and saw the breakfast lines outside. Worth it, go, eat breakfast, be impressed, I am.

1÷19÷16 First time here: On the killer menu: Chile Verde omlette(ok) Chili cheese omlette(ok) So I cam here one other time only for their large cookies. Today, I decided to eat here. The chili cheese omlette was ok. The Chile verde was ok too. The pork chunks were softer than a brick. But I mulled through only to leave half uneaten. There was more cheese than Chile verde sauce. Not a comeback spot for us.

I am not a local and I have only been here once when my sister-in law took me and my husband here for happy hour. But I do think they warranted 4 stars! Their happy hour is insanely awesome. They have the biggest happy hour menu I have ever seen and the portions were big for the happy hour prices! Hubby and I ordered chicken nachos, sliders, and I had a fish taco. The nachos were awesome and went well with my strawberry margarita(which was blended, awesome, and did not taste like gross drink mix like a lot of blended ones do-it was delicious!). The waitress even brought an «overflow cup» with my margarita so I really got like a margarita and a half! The only thing I didn’t like were the fish tacos. They were dry and crunchy and possibly the worst fish tacos I have ever had. BUT everything else was so good that I think it was maybe just a bad night for the fish taco. Either way I had a great time and really enjoyed the food. Maybe a little too much(I ate way more than I should have!). I can’t comment on how they«regularly» are but I say definitely stop in here during happy hour!

My first visit to this restaurant was yesterday 1÷13÷16. As you walk in you feel like you are in an upscale breakfast place not a pie location. My first impression was I’m sure the food will be amazing. We arrived to eat at around 10:00 am the parking lot was full. Although the parking lot was full they have sufficient seating inside, did not have to wait one minute was seated as soon as we walked in. My only reason for the 4 stars is due to the hostess. The hostess that was there that morning had a bad attitude. She couldn’t even say good morning or even ask how many in our party. We had to tell her it was for two people. She honestly seemed as if she was upset that people walked into the restaurant. From there on out the experience was great. Our server had an amazing personality and was very professional. She kept coming every few minutes to make sure our food was tasting good or if we needed anything else. We ordered the Pigs in a Blanket and let me tell you for $ 7.49 boy were they worth it. We also ordered a waffle and the Country Fried Steak Breakfast. We literally got our food in around 10 minutes or less it was super quick. We were astonished. Their restrooms are very clean and have sufficient stalls. The restaurant was very clean and the inside décor was country style. Food Quality = 10 out of 10 Service = 9 out of 10 Food Promptness = 10 out of 10 Restaurant Cleanliness = 10 out of 10 Restroom Cleanliness = 10 out of 10 Pricing = 8 out of 10 I most definitely recommend this restaurant. They are known for their breakfast.

With pie in the name, who wouldn’t want to come in? It’s a charming and lovely atmosphere to enjoy breakfast with family. We had to wait about 20 minutes before our table was ready, but that was also because my parents requested to sit in a certain area. We sat in a cozy booth table where our served greeted us with a smile. She was a lovely young lady but it took a bit of time for our sequence of service. She needed to be prompted a few times– when she took our food orders and to have our beverages refreshed. I ordered the ABC omelette with potatoes, which you can’t really go wrong with. Avocado and bacon is always a great combination, and the omelette was really tasty. The avocado was fresh and the bacon was in strips, which was a little more difficult to cut. When I looked at the potatoes, I noticed something off in them only to find out that it was the eye of the potato. I was surprised that the chefs would let this happen, and then picked it out. Once I had a bite of the decent potatoes I realized they were cold. When I saw the Banana and Reese’s cup pancake, I knew that I needed to try them and thank goodness I did! They were fluffy and sweet, but could have used more banana. Those pancakes made the experience better. I plan on coming back for more pancakes when I am craving something sweet.

This is my husband’s family go-to spot. And, I can see why! This is an awesome homestyle, family diner. Huge portions, delicious food and friendly staff. Gourmet Café is a local spot and we tend to bump into old high school friends. It’s that kind of place. Their sandwiches are so good — my hubby got the tuna melt and it was drool-worthy good. I got the chicken pot pie. If I see it on a menu, it’s definitely happening! This was the biggest pot pie ever. It was the size of a normal pie and could have easily fed 3 people! I barely got through a quarter of it and I was not mad to have such an enormous amount of leftovers! We’ve also been for brunch which was delicious. I’ve never been to this place without having a wait of at least 20 minutes. Word to the wise — don’t come here starving. Though the food comes out quickly, you may have a slight wait before being seated.

Only downside is the customer service can be fairly slow even if it’s not that busy. Other than that, they have really good food! So far in all the times I’ve been here, I’ve tried their wet burrito, chili cheese fries, country fried steak with cinnabun instead of pancakes, chorizo tamales, wings, & mushroom burger. All yummy!

Have good food, will travel. A friend of mine recommended this place for breakfast so I went to check it out. Gourmet Café and Pie Company is located on Katella in the city of Los Alamitos. It’s easy to get to and has plenty of parking. The longest I’ve had to wait is 15 minutes and that’s when it was super busy. The ambience is perfect for large or small groups. The service has always been good. I think the two biggest points for me are the vegetarian options and the portion sizes. They have an amazing veggie omelette that I like. I love that their pancakes are available as singles, short stack, or long stack. I’ve ordered their single pancake and it is a huge pancake! They’re so generous with their portions. Their prices are so reasonable too. The average plate costs around $ 10. That being said about the portions, bring your appetite or someone to share with! I once came with 3 friends and we each ordered a plate with the intention to share. I think we could have done with 3 plates for the 4 of us! We were satisfied and still had leftovers to take home. The food is tasty and hits the spot too. The menu is simple but it does the job of offering something for everyone. Granted I’ve only been here for breakfast and I’ve never looked at their lunch or dinner menu, oops! I will next time. This restaurant isn’t the most local to me but I like the atmosphere, food, and service. I’ve always left satisfied and my friends like it too. I’ll definitely return in the future!

Your old neighborhood diner with familiar faces and a warm smile. This diner was a treat. My boyfriend and his childhood buddies have been coming here for over 10 years. Portions are large. So the man and I decided to get orders and share. We ordered the California omlette and the boysenberry pancakes(separate the toppings). It was perfect. We had the perfect amount of omelette to split and well the pancakes was more than I can finish. I enjoyed taking a small piece and dipping the cream cheese and berries to get each bite full of delishiousness. Friend gave me a slice of french toast and that was so great! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Had a taste of the chili omelette and loved it. Although it can get heavy halfway through it. The chili was very good. I’d probably order a small bowl on it’s own in the future. Friendly service. We had a very large party with kids and a baby too, and our server got it all right! I see why these guys keep coming back. And I’m sure I will be too! Enjoy.

I had been wanting to try this spot out for a while since it’s close to me. There was a crowd waiting when I arrived around 11 a.m. on a Sunday, and there were people still waiting when I left. However, the wait was not long at all — maybe ten minutes. The restaurant is pretty big and can accommodate a lot of people. We ordered: –Corned Beef & Hash — This had a ton of potatoes and unfortunately not a lot of corned beef — at least not in comparison to the amount of potatoes in it. There were pieces mixed in, and it was definitely real corned beef. Just wish there would have been more of it. Came with two eggs, which I got over easy. –Gourmet Mess Breakfast Potatoes — This dish looked similar to mine(with all the potatoes) except it had Spinach, Chicken, and Avocado. Dish was huge but a little plain. We got the full size since it was only a little more than the half, but we finished less than half. –Boysenberry Cream Cheese Pie — I thought Knott’s had the monopoly on Boysenberry, so I was excited to see it on the menu. The pie was creamy and light. Good way to end the meal. Service was good — our waitress was really nice and came around several times to check up on us. I wouldn’t mind returning to try a few other things and getting more pie.

Don’t let the non-hipster name and interior décor fool you, this place is a gem. Probably a beloved community landmark too. Lots of great good choices here. But for me it’s all about the following item, in which I have them substitute ham in place of grilled chicken: GOURMET-MESSBREAKFASTPOTATOES Full order …9.95 Half order …8.70 Grilled chicken with spinach, onions, mushrooms, breakfast potatoes & two eggs with Hollandaise sauce, avocado & cheese. This is truly a treat for hollandaise-lovers like me. Believe me a half order is already enough to put you into a food coma. The full order is only suitable for people the size of Shaquille Oneal, and still less than $ 10! The french toast is also amazing. I wish I could say more about other items, but my addiction to the gourmet mess has kept me from trying much else. I’ve also not been here for lunch and dinner unfortunately. All in all, great food, great value, great service.
