I was up in D.C. for a 4 month tour with the Air Force. I signed a contract for an ungodly amount of money for only 4 months(with the total amount on the contract). They charged me 118 dollar per month for three additional months PAST my contract even though I stopped attending. When I called MULTIPLE times the didn’t answer. I wrote them at and they told me sorry, they would cancel my contract but they wouldn’t refund my money. I haven’t received any replies in three weeks… still trying to get a hold of them to find out why they won’t uphold their end of the contract.

I’ve been going to the Krav Maga Nova gym for almost 3 years now and can’t say enough about the classes, the staff and they way Krav Maga is taught at KM NoVa. Peter and the rest of the staff push you in every aspect of the discipline so that you are prepared if you ever experience a need to use it. Self defense, combatives, and fitness are all areas of focus and provide for one hell of an hour-long class. The cost includes as many classes as you want, and there is everything from Krav to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, to KM Fit that is a crushing cardio workout. I recommend for everyone!

Just to update Sean C.‘s review, there is another membership option now for 3 months but it’s more expensive, $ 118 a month, after that you can continue on a month to month basis for the $ 118 or you can upgrade to the year(which would be a 9 month contract since the 3 you already sign up for count toward the year) and reduce the cost to something in the $ 80/month range. It is expensive which is the only reason it didn’t get a fifth star! The classes are a wonderful workout, more intense than any aerobics class, and it’s realistic. Not only do you learn the fighting stances and the different punches and kicks but also how to react to real life situations using your natural instincts to your advantage. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for both a great workout and some self defense techniques.

Krav Maga is a good martial art for people who don’t want to study an in depth martial art before being able to use it in self defense. It teaches practical, no-nonsense self defense techniques for common situations that anyone can learn and apply. As for this studio, they have good classes. There are competent instructors who give an appropriate amount of individual attention in classes. They also get to know your name quickly. The studio itself appears to be what was once a small drive up bank branch in a strip mall. Certainly nothing fancy, but you don’t expect fancy in a martial arts studio. The real downside is that they have only one form of membership/payment. You have to join for one full year, which can be paid in 12 installments and renewed after the 1st year on a month to month basis. You can take unlimited classes each month. However, the cost is relatively high($ 88 per month at the time I’m writing this, and $ 186 up front). There is no discount for taking only one class per week, or if you just wanted to take intermittent classes. There is also no short term membership, or month to month option at the beginning. In my experience, they are also very rigid about adhering to the terms of their contract, so be sure to read it carefully before signing. The monthly fees are automatically deducted using some remote outsourced servicing company in Colorado and you may have to deal with the servicing company rather than the studio if there are any problems.
