Texas Cheese House is a small shop but with a surprising wide range of products. We did not eat there so my comments are limited to the products. The chocolates, made in Hico are delicious. The cheeses, made in the back of the store, have wonderful, rich flavors and are made from locally produced milk. The clerk was very attentive and gave us samples a of The cheeses. I’ll definitely go back

Mmmmmm, I love cheese. The service here was great. The guy is friendly and I ordered the 3 cheese sandwich special. It was good but would have been even better had the cheese been melted. I really liked their selection of cheese ball spices and cheesecake flavorings. The shop itself is really small and quaint. Don’t forget the chocolates. The peanut butter chocolate was sinful. Mmmm I’ll have to go back and try different things.

Wow– can’t believe we never stopped in before! It’s almost embarrassing! It’s just a couple blocks off IH35 in downtown Lorena. The old town is so tiny it’s not a square but just a couple block strips on either side of the street. There are a few antique shops which I will return to explore as I’m definitely going back the Texas Cheese House again. We needed something to eat and I’d read that it was also a little café. That proved correct. The small handwritten sign in the window advertised the daily special sandwich of pesto, fresh mozzarella, tomato and ham –grilled and pressed for $ 4(comes with a handful of locally made tortilla chips and a pickle spear. Upon entering the space is cozy with a smattering of tables and chairs– shelves on each side lined with dip mixes, home canned fruit, jellies, jams and savory unique products texas produced. There were samples of the tortilla chips since they sell them by the large bag and samples of three cheese spreads– I tastes and bought all three. Then a soda case with numerous Dublin Sodas variety, and then a cheese case which houses about a dozen locally made cheeses. You can ask to sample any of them and they gladly comply. I didn’t purchase this time as I had quite a bit on hand but will consider for future for sure. Next to that is the order counter, cashier and then a case of fresh home made desserts with a nice variety of truffles. We got a couple sodas, the cheese spreads and I ordered one of the 2 soups — cheddar and broccoli which was of a thinner consistency that I really look for and enjoy in s soup!!! They used their fresh cheddar and the broccoli was tender crisp still… it was very tasty. It came with a thin delicious grilled piece of cornbread! I also ordered the special sandwich to go. Choice of fresh smallish round loaves of bread are sliced– it was also real sliced ham and the tomato, cheese and pesto– grilled panini style. I did enjoy it later and even after sitting if was really. Really tasty. The young lady behind th counter was training someone new but was very attentive… this was a great experience and I encourage a stop if your passing by Lorena! I wish I had tried dessert but will get it on the next time list too!!!

It requires a bit of effort to get to this shop due to the never-ending highway construction, but it’s well worth it. The cheese is fantastic; made in small batches on premises by the owner, who has a passion for good food and great cheese. We stopped once just passing through and since then this has become a favorite destination. Today we had lunch; soup and sandwiches accompanied by Dublin Root Beer. And we bought more cheese, which we’ll soon eat. It’s that good. The shop also has Texas olive oils, pickes, dip mixes, grass-fed local beef and sausage, salsas – this is a great place to buy gifts for foodie friends and family. Small businesses in towns along this stretch of I35 are struggling to survive because of the traffic disruption from construction, so now is a good time to support these towns. You can’t go wrong shopping here.(And I am not employed by nor related to the owner. I just know a good thing when I see it.)

Let me start by saying this place is good for adults. not so good for children. The sandwiches are good for sure. I was in there with my grandchild last weekend and I asked the owner what cheese he would put on a child’s grill cheese and he said cheddar. Thinking he was the cheese man He should know how to make a child’s grill cheese. OUr sandwiches were fantastic. The child’s was uneatable. I asked him about it and he just dismissed me. He would not taste it. He would not smell it. He didn’t offer a replacement. He was so sure He didn’t make a mistake. It tasted spoiled. When I tasted it It make me gag to the point of almost vomiting. I got my daughter-in-law to taste it and same thing. The cheese was even separated. The cheese smelled like the cheese I used to use for catfish bait. Limburger. I know this place is awesome, but I also know that you don’t keep regular customers by treating them like he treated my grandchild. We won’t be back. and we went at least once a month.

Just south of Waco and slightly off of I-35 in Lorena, this quaint shop is easy to find! We stopped in for a little snack and were pleasantly surprised by the assortment of delicious cheeses! There were several options to choose from on the menu and each person in our party of four was quite pleased! We will definitely make this a regular stop on our trips down to Austin!

Fabulous cheese. Three different people with three very different palates. All were pleased. Food is good too, but cheese is outstanding. Worth pulling off the highway for a break.

Mac and cheese grilled cheese… yum! The place is a little spartan but their gift baskets are plentiful and the workers were very pleasant. I just wish they had more cheeses and the presentation was better. Cheese in bags isn’t very appealing.

What a GEM! On my way back to Dallas after a recent road trip, I saw a halfway falling billboard poster off the side of the highway that said, «Texas Cheese, exit Lorena». Throwing caution to the wind, I decided to pull off the highway and give it a whirl. The monocle feature on my Unilocal app helped me locate the Texas Cheese House in downtown Lorena. I was surprised when I walked in to find that this tiny little place had so many choices of cheese, plus a full deli, and trinkets, and chocolates, and candies… and the list goes on and on. I walked up to the counter to order my cheeses, but if you plan on eating from the deli menu, you can just sit right down and someone will be out to take your order in a flash. I ordered two half pounds of cheese(the cheddar and the swiss). The attendant asked if I had ever had their cheeses before, and of course, I said no. She offered me tastes of each just to be sure I liked them. Their cheeses are a little sharper than what you would normally find in the grocery store, and they were concerned with my satisfaction. Well, satisfaction fulfilled! The swiss was gone before the following weekend and the cheddar didn’t last long after that. Next time I’m in Lorena, I’m taking a cooler and stocking up on some good, local, Texas cheese!

Finally got a chance to eat at the Texas Cheese House today. Wow! Had an Artisan Grilled Cheese made with a fresh rosemary baguette and jarlsberg cheese. It was wonderful. Kevin had a ham and cheese on a jalapeño baguette. Both were excellent. Also bought some Wiseman’s chocolates and additional handmade cheeses. The proprietor buys fresh raw milk from a farm near Georgetown, and goat’s milk from some local goat dairies. You need to try this place out! They have sandwiches and soups and gourmet things for sale.
