Yesterday in a panic to find liquid cement coloring for a project starting today 1⁄20 at 9am, there was none to be found on San Juan Island, Orcas, Anacortes or Lopez in charcoal the wonderful lady from Sunset Builders Supply suggested paint tint!
AND her suggestion saved me over $ 40 (difference in cost from little containers of coloring versus paint tint)
She saved the day! When you live in the islands you learn a few tricks and with any home or ranch project call Sunset Builders should you need an insider’s knowledge.

Other than the marina store, this is the only hardware store on the island. I wasn’t bothered by the high prices (must make money in the season and added costs of transport). I was «helped» by an older man (owner?) who was really very rude and insulting when I was just making conversation at the check out. Also, in the middle of our transaction, he stopped went over and helped another person check out and then finished my transaction. Another customer was watching the whole thing and was shaking his head and looked at me as if he was as astonished as I was. They don’t care and it shows. Bring everything with you if you come to Lopez or shop at the Marina hardware store (nice people) first. I ended up not getting most of what I could have bought just because of his attitude.
DON’T PATRONIZE UNLESS YOU LIKE ABUSE AND THEN, SHOP AWAY.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
