This a funky hip bridge! It connects Long view Washington and Rainer Oregon. Joseph Strauss designed this Cantilever bridge over the Columbia River. He also was showing off and designed the Golden Gate Bridge coz he was sexy innovative like that. It opened in 1930 when you can buy a lot of stuff with a dime. If you’re in the area go over it a few times and post your selfies. Its fun to go state to state a bunch of times in 5 mins. Then you can claim you’re an avid bona fide traveler. Haha Just have camera ready before getting on it so you don’t cause accidents and get a lot of people pissed off. Ciao babes!

I crossed the«Lewis and Clark Bridge» over the Columbia River going from Longview, WA to Ranier, OR on 8÷21÷2012. In my opinion, Rainer is the podunkiier of the two towns but go see for yourself. The bridge did not fall — so I think I’ll give it 3 stars.

In business since 1930, this 2.5 km wonder stretches from a podunk town in Oregon(Ranier) to an even podunkier, dying mill town in Washington(Longview). It was designed by a fellow named Strauss, whom you may recognize as chief architect as well of a certain Golden Gate Bridge down in the Bay. This is a cantilever-style bridge, for you purists/buffs out there just itching to be in the know of such minutia. It is also a very narrow bridge by modern standards; single lane in either direction. I have witnessed more than a few accidents going in either direction(frequently involving big tractor-trailers traversing the expanse) that holds things up, traffic wise, for hours on end, on both business ends o’ the bridge. For all it’s accident-proneness and narrow rickitiness, this IS a pretty cool bridge. It was nearly 6 million to build 80 years ago, one can only speculate on the enormity of the costs to eventually replace the behemoth. One star off for this bridge, in all its magnificence, b/c it brings you from the majestic Oregon side to such a complete dump as Longview…
