Started at five stars and slid down to three by the end of the meal. The chips and hot sauce are great. The homemade guacamole was outstanding. Best in town. My beef taco was okay flavor but the taco shell was a little stale. I noticed another reviewer mention that. That means somebody’s either not paying attention or doesn’t care. The chicken soup was very good. My beef enchilada dinner was meh. The ground beef doesn’t have that much flavor and if you’re going to do Tex Mex, a beef enchilada needs to be covered in chili con carne, not white cheese. The rice was very good but refried beans just okay. The place is clean. The service was quick and attentive. If you’re going to have TV’s up showing sports, have it on something other than drag racing. Again, somebody’s not paying attention. Food was okay and everything else acceptable. Upturned face.

I’m updating my review and dropped a couple of stars. We were here last night. I don’t know what has happened in a month, but the service & quality of food was lacking. Everyone working seemed angry or upset. Only one waitress on floor. The food was hit & miss around our table of 7. Yes we had a larger group but that is not an excuse. Do Not order wine expecting a full glass nor half a glass. $ 4.50 per glass with only 2 fingers worth in it. Tostata shells were soggy on arrival, have the food was delivered cold, half hot. Never a refill on hot sauce nor chips. Had to chase someone down for drink refill. I hope this place gets it together quickly or we will find a new place.

I really like this restaurant, food is good, service is quick and good, my only complaint is margaritas are so-so. Prices are good and it’s a local restaurant, I prefer to support locals when I can, another plus in my book

I really like this place. It is unknown I believe to a lot of people right now, but the food is really good. I usually get fajitas or the locos nachos. The staff is nice and always enjoy your business. The food comes out fast also. A plate I would recommend is two beef enchiladas with queso on top, with rice and beans. Simple but their white queso makes it hard to put down your fork. Or like I said, the fajitas or nachos are really good. I have a pretty simple palette.

If you’re looking for the best sit down Mexican food in town, stop! My mom and I have been going here since the menus were pieces of laminated paper, and every experience has been delicious. Even the portion sizes are perfect, which is hard for someone without an appetite as big as Texas itself. They even have a vegetarian part on the menu! Everything I have tried(enchiladas, huevos rancheros, quesadillas, etc…) is amazing, with a special shout out to enchiladas and rice & beans. My new usual is one beef enchilada and rice & beans. The enchiladas are great because they automatically put queso on them, making them to die for. The only thing I would change about the place is cheaper rice and beans, or maybe an option to add both to food for cheaper. In short: amazing food, reasonable prices, but be kind to the waitstaff if they mess up. Waiting tables was not their first choice.

This is a family-owned business in a strip mall. Fisherman’s Market had a location in this same spot years ago. More recently, it was home to Las Delicias. But the place has been overhauled — «a brand new building,» according to the lady at the cash register. Atmosphere This place is clean. The tables and booths are comfortable. The walls are adorned with stereotypical Mexican restaurant scenes. The air temperature during our Saturday afternoon visit here was too warm for me.(My wife was comfy.) Service These folks are friendly and attentive. Food Here’s where it gets interesting. I ordered the #16(3 tamales, rice & beans). My wife special ordered cheese tacos. Yes. I said ‘special ordered.‘ When I told the waiter that I wanted chili con carne on my tamales, he gave me a funny look and said ‘We have a chile sauce. It’s like enchilada sauce.’ — When my wife said ‘cheese tacos’(commonly known around here as cheese enchiladas with queso on top) he was just as confused. I remember an article in the local newspaper about this place(before it opened) in which the owner said the restaurant would be geared toward Tex-Mex eaters — with options for more traditional Mexican food customers. In other words, whether you grew up eating at El Chico or some mom & pop joint in Tamaulipas, La Carretta is the place for you. — For the record, I didn’t notice cabrito or lingua tacos on the menu. Also, again, chili con carne was as foreign to the waiter as borscht. Still… The salsa, albeit made with very little(if any) cilantro, isn’t half bad. My wife really liked it. I thought it was OK. My tamales arrived on one plate while the rice and beans arrived on another. These tamales are definitely homemade, which means the masa-to-meat ratio is about 4-to-1. These are very much unlike the California-style(thin) tamales that Gringos are used to around these parts. But, the shredded pork surrounded by firm masa is good, even if the cook didn’t add any salt. The beans: good. The rice: much better than average. Dry and firm, just as rice should be. My wife’s cheese tacos(cheese enchiladas topped with queso) were a real disappointment. They tasted OK, but it was essentially a plate of rolled corn tortillas topped with white cheese sauce. She opened one to show me the filling, and it didn’t exist. Fail. Bottom line The lady at the cash register told me that they would be introducing chili con carne to the menu, because I wasn’t the only person to request it.(The enchilada sauce was good, by the way.) — I begged my wife to give this place another chance, if only because the quality of the service and freshness of the food. We shall see.
