The Firehouse Art Center is really as good as it gets for an art experience in Longmont !!! It’s housed in the old firehouse tucked away in Downtown Longmont which makes it a unique venue! It’s close to restaurants, shops, etc so lunch before or dinner after could make for a nice way of spending an afternoon! The art exhibitions are unique, interesting and displayed beautifully. The volunteers greet you as you enter but let you enjoy the artwork at your own leisure. If you have questions they are right there with the answer! We had a wonderful time during our visit there and plan to go back again and again.

I love this place. It has great ambience, events and exhibits, and it is in a great down town location near all the best shops and restaurants in Longmont. The Firehouse is proof that longmont is tranforming into a sophisticated community that loves and supports great culture and art. This is, by far, the best venue for local and contemporary art in Longmont. And it is really starting to grow into a community hub.

I recently visited this art center to mix and mingle with Suzanne Heintz(she’s known for documenting travels/times with her mannequin family: ). The center was easy to find and we found parking just across the street. My friend and I showed up a bit early but still received a warm welcome from the staff/volunteers. We were encouraged to go ahead upstairs(gallery is on the 1st floor) to peruse some locally made goods as well as partake in some arts and crafts. The arts and crafts were so much fun. We made fold out books and decorated to our hearts content with fabric, stamps, lace, glitter, feathers, you name it we glued it onto or into these little books. We had so much fun that we arrived late to the start of the event. We made our way down to the first floor and were so excited to see Suzanne Heintz amidst the crowd. The gallery featured many of her photos and a small room off to the side showed a short film. What was even more exciting was that her mannequin family was present which we all took turns taking pictures with. There was also a cash bar and lots of goodies to snack on(lemon cakes, brownie bites, chips, pastrami). Though the event was free there was a donation cup near the door which we were happy to contribute to. We will most definitely come back for another 2nd Friday opening reception.
