The Paper Factory Hotel

I wasn’t really impressed with this hotel the rooms are tiny, but the hotel lobby is beautiful very unique décor. I think it was not worth the amount I paid. Will not be returning to this hotel although the location was very conveniently located to. a lot of lounges and bars. and other entertainment.

I recently spent a weekend here with my girlfriend. It was very affordable and close to a subway station, which made a semi-​inconvenient location in Long Island City a non-​issue. The lobby is decorated nicely; lots of reclaimed wood, industrial accents, and a huge tower of books. Décor in the room was similarly themed but far less grandiose. The check in process was smooth and free from setbacks and the woman behind the front desk was very kind.
Now for the bad parts:
–The foosball table in the lobby, which is advertised on the hotel’s website, was in dire need of lubrication and thus did not function at all.
–The elevator broke while we were in it, which we understood was a fluke, but it was inconvenient nonetheless (we ended up having to use another elevator at the end of the hall which was absolutely freezing).
–The temperature control in the room was a bit wonky, so we could never really find a good balance between hot and cold.
–The shower was utterly bizarre. Instead of being in the same room as the rest of the bathroom, there was a separate, tiny, and frankly somewhat claustrophobic room containing the shower stall and an oddly placed towel rack. These were more odd than bad, but the shower floor was honestly abhorrent. It is composed of hundreds of very small raised tiles with a few centimeters of space in between each unit. The end result is extreme discomfort if you want to take a shower longer than three minutes. Both my girlfriend and I have relatively tough feet, but neither of us escaped pain-​free.
On a closing positive note, there is a great pizza place called Mike’s about a ten minute walk away from the hotel.
Overall, I would probably stay here again, if not for that truly convoluted shower situation.

How this hotel has less than 5 stars is a mystery to me. If your looking for trump style waste of time go to Manhattan. Here at this hotel your dealing with REAL LIFE PEOPLE. Super friendly and accommodating. Marijana Boros the front desk manager was awesome. The drinks at their bar «Mundo «were on point. Rooms have an apartment style feel and to be honest I didn’t want to leave. Best experience I had all year. When I win the lottery I’m gonna buy a loft room here and move in immediately, joking of course, but still I didn’t want to leave. For a new hotel they sure make you feel like they’ve been in the game for awhile cause they have everything you could ever want or need. Be honest with you I had a great time at the event I was attending down the block but while I was exploring the hotel I felt like I was on an adventure. I’m a grown man but this hotel brought me back to a time where I was impressed by the simplest things. Definitely looking to come back very soon. Highly recommend this place.

The décor of the hotel is absolutely amazing and so charming. It is super affordable and very convenient to the subway. There is plenty of available street parking for free.
However, I tend to be a light sleeper but my fiancé can sleep through everything and the noise in this hotel actually bothered him! I am not talking about the normal city background noise you would experience in NYC, there is no insulation between rooms. The group of guys in the next room over were not yelling but just a group hanging out late night talking, laughing and having a good time but I could hear everything clear as day. Their voices weren’t muffled in the slightest. In addition, there is no carpeting, which adds to the décor of the hotel, but caused an echo of slamming doors emanating down the hallway everytime someone came or went ALL NIGHT.
In addition to our lack of sleep, the front desk staff didn’t discuss any of the amenities of the hotel which causes the customer service to be a bit lackluster.

I’ve reached out twice since my stay to contact the hotel directly and speak to the managers. No response, so here I am writing about my experience.
We came into NYC for a 2 week stay on business. During this time, we experienced lack of service and hospitality at this hotel that I have never experienced before in my life. It was shocking at how poorly we were treated, continuously, and when we brought up the concerns in a very respectable way, we were treated like complete idiots.
Being here on business, we needed wake up calls. Which, are a normal thing for any hotel to do and completely expected. After having 3 missed wake up calls, we realized that we could not rely on the front desk to follow through with this at all. Frustrating. We politely brought this up to the front desk and they looked at us, shrugged, and said «Sorry, well, you’re up now.»
During our two week stay, it became a guessing game after 14 hour work days to see if we would get housekeeping service. I’d say it was less than 50% of the time we came back to have new towels, new sheets, trash taken out and toiletries restocked.
I had a very expensive and time sensitive package delivered to the hotel. It had been confirmed it was shipped. The front desk checked and said it wasn’t there. I called UPS to confirm shipment. I went down to the front desk. They still couldn’t find it. I HAD ANOTHER PACKAGE SHIPPED. SAME THING 2x the expense and overnighted. It arrived… and the front desk found my original package, sitting in the back where they had checked twice already. Ridiculous.
One night, I had made sure to request room service. We had a very long day of work. No room service. I called the front desk and asked for our sheets to be changed. They brought up sheets and handed them to me at the door. «Am I supposed to change my own sheets?» The guy looked at me with a blank stare. «I don’t know how to make your beds here… Id appreciate some help.» I helped make my own sheets in a hotel.
The food at Mundo was $ 100 for two people and tasted awful. We have experience eating at great restaurants and this food was absolutely terrible.
I called the front desk twice to ask for glasses to be delivered to our room for water. They were never delivered.
Half our stay, the elevator didn’t work. No one helped with our luggage.
The front desk staff was incredibly dismissive, not friendly at all and did not want to seem to help us enjoy our stay or help with any of the above listed concerns at all. I called the front desk to share my experience about the listed concerns above and they really didn’t care at all. We had so much work to do, so much luggage, that it was too much effort to try and switch hotels mid-​trip at this point. The staff wasn’t friendly, whenever we would walk past they were not polite, even for a simple question about how to get around the area, subway or best route to various locations.
The entire experience was embarrassing, upsetting and completely uncalled for. Especially since we stayed for 2 weeks, you would assume we would have been treated with more hospitality, respect and overall decency over that period of time. It was supposed to be a special trip and it was ruined day after day from our stay here.

You have to go to the front desk to change temperature in your room.
I repeat: you have to wait in line at front desk to get your room above freezing.
The room has bare minimum linens so there’s no way you can pile on blankets. (cheap sheets, no comforter)
I’ve gone to front desk twice now and they’ve changed the temp in my room for me, but to no avail. Still freezing. Even if it does get warm, I’ve been told that I have to call down if I want the temp lowered.
They have a thermostat in every room but changing the temperature does nothing, front desk told me they have to do it from computer. You can only change fan settings.
Basically, this place is a shoestringed together experiment in making a «hip hotel» as cheap as possible. I won’t be staying here again and neither should you. It’s essentially an Airbnb, flimsy with toiletries and no room service, mini bar, housekeeping doesn’t even clean, just empties your trash. Didn’t even refresh toiletries.

Housekeeping showed up when the do not disturb sign was on. We told them clean after 6pm. Got back to the room. Not cleaned. Said do not disturb was on the door. It wasn’t. Another time they entered the room when it was on the door
When they did clean the floor wasn’t swept
The wooden floors creaked horribly
The furniture was minimalist
They control the thermostat. The room alternated between hot and cold
The Mercedes dealership likes to move stuff after midnight. Noisy
It is a lot less expensive than a city hotel. Very funky which was fine. They were responsive when something needed to be done
It has its pluses and minuses as most do.
I would try elsewhere next time

I like the location and décor of this hotel. Stayed with two others. TV is difficult to navigate (seriously very hard) and there is no carpet. Bathroom is separate from the shower which is nice when you’re sharing the room. It seemed like a hipster/​boutique hotel which I would stay in again, especially for a large group of people. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try food at the café. There’s ample street Parking and ten minutes from midtown.

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful hotel. I would recommend to anyone staying in Long Island City. Check in was a breeze. Restaurant and bar was great!

My wife and I got married last October and asked all our guests to stay at the paper factory hotel. This was a DIY wedding so we were coordinating a lot of vendors. The paper factory hotel is the only one that we absolutely regret working with. While the staff was consistently pleasant, the beds are comfortable, and the décor is truly beautiful, the general disorganization and inability of management to follow through on even the simplest requests made what should have been a simple and easy experience into a stressful and unpleasant one.
Communication is the biggest issue. When we gave information to someone at the hotel, it never seemed to get through to anyone else. We had repeated difficulties getting the hotel to give us an updated list of our guests attending the event. The discount code we were given was disabled multiple times, without letting us know, so many of our guests ended up booking at a higher rate. Then, at the last minute, we discovered a travelzoo discount for much less than our initial discount rate. Once we pointed this out, the hotel offered to apply the lower rate to all of our guests. But then the next time we called back, nobody knew about this promise.
In the morning, during a breakfast we had arranged with them in a guest lounge, the fire alarm went off. We were told not to worry because this had been happening every day for a week and the electrician would be coming in the next few days. Obviously that was a major disruption to breakfast, but what would have happened if there was a real fire?
Many of our guests complained that the hotel had lost their reservation, not applied the correct discount, not returned phone calls, or given them rooms that did not match the description they had booked for. Rooms we had requested cancelled, and that we were told were cancelled, were then apparently not cancelled.
Almost everything we had agreed upon had to be explained by us, multiple times, to multiple staff members in order to get it to happen. The worst example is the gift bags.
We dropped off gift bags to be delivered to our guests. We were told several times that they do this for almost every wedding and it’s not a problem. We actually finished stuffing the gift bags in the lobby so several people on staff saw what was going on. One of the girls in the front commented on how nice they are and how she would love to receive a gift bag like that. And we talked to 2 or 3 different staff members about the gift bags.
Later that night, my mother in law, who had personally prepared all of them, checked in and was not offered a gift bag and did not receive one in her room. We called and the hotel apologized and delivered gift bags to everyone who had checked in that day, and said they would absolutely make sure everyone else in the party got gift bags.
The next day we had more guests checking in and guess what? No gift bags. There are only so many times I can call and say the same thing and I think four or five is my limit. Plus, I was getting married that day. So we never complained and those guests never received the bags. But really — how hard is this?
If the paper factory hotel is not prepared to execute a service like dropping off gift bags, they should be honest and say they do not have the capacity. We would have found another way to get these gifts to our guests. The problem is that they consistently promise service and then forget everything they had promised. They had also said without hesitation that the restaurant would be open by the date of our wedding, and possibly several months earlier. I know how hard it is to open a restaurant in NYC and that delays are common, but if they were not sure they would be opening, they should not have been using words like «Definitely».
Overall, the staff were very pleasant, but the experience of complaining about the same issues to different people over and over and over again became a theme of the weekend that was exhausting and very distracting from the wedding we were trying to plan and celebrate.

My wife and I recently used the Hotel and were astonished by how terrible the service was. Here is some excerpts from an email I sent to management which they ignored :
The hotel staff, associates and Restaurants owners and management all together created constant irritation and obstacles for us and our guests for the past year. The constant confusion, passing of blame and daily miscommunication attributed to the Unacceptable client service through and through.
At first glance your hotel is beautiful and drew us in. We felt like we were in good hands and everything was handled on your end. However behind the scenes our basic hotel Service needs were neglected by everyone we spoke to. Though personable and delightful, the hotel was deceptive, proclaiming to have remedied problems, but only creating more. My wife and I took off work on 2 occasions to meet in person to straighten things out, which could have been done over the phone. and a week before the wedding, our issues were STILL UNRESOLVED (names on reservations, canceled rooms, breakfast brunch the following day).
My guests complained about TV, Safe, Toliet and Key malfunctions. Our own bridal suite had issues with the raising TV as the latch was broken when we checked in, revealing open Nails exposing us to possible foot injury. Lastly, our promised brunch was to be served in the flow room and dined in the restaurant or picnic area. This was promised to us when we first booked in variations. However that SUNDAY morning, Our mothers had to wait for the tables to be set up on Mothers day. No one knew our schedule and was confused by our requests, almost put off by our presence. We made the best out of the bad situation, as we come accustom to your hotels let downs.
Avoid if at all possible

This place is like Instagram come to life. It’s like those people on Instagram who only show you half of their face while smiling with some cool filter… This place looks SO COOL and clean, but the mold in the showers, the chipped paint and scratched walls in the rooms, the MDF furniture… You’d expect more for some place that is roughly $ 250−400/night. But anyway…
We really had a bad experience at this hotel, sadly. We are local NYC people looking for a night away to escape the winter blues. It grossly under performed and the room did not deliver one what it promised. The décor reminds me of when Target tries to be hip, so it looks great in the pictures, but you get there and it’s very cheap. No big deal though, doesn’t affect the quality of the sleep.
We booked the Junior Loft. It was advertised with many things that we did not even have in the room:
«Rustic leather couch to sink yourself into after a long day» — Nope.
«Custom-​designed bathrobes» — No sign of these
«Upgraded bed linens, down comforters and pillows» — It was February, VERY drafty in the room, and NO DOWN comforter.

–Close to train (what isn’t close to a train in NYC?)
–Rec rooms and funky lobby with a nice bar inside (didn’t use bar)
–Wifi and cable working
Cons
–VERY thin walls. Could hear neighbors giggling and planning their day.
–Drafty, so room was cold, and other guest’s doors were SLAMMING in the wind all night long.
–Bed was very firm and uncomfortable
–A lot of MOLD in the shower (all over the floor and up the wall)
–Scratches and chipped paint everywhere
–Constant outdoor noise all through the night (construction related?)
This place was about $ 220 a night and we really had a pretty terrible time. False advertising and quality was cheaper than cheap.

It’s an artsy hotel. Parking is an issue because the nearest garage I could find was a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The front desk needs to be more efficient and work at a faster pace. It took me almost 20 mins to check in. I didn’t get to spend too much time at the hotel itself as I was touring NYC but the bar is exotic and the bartender Jessica was very accommodating. The manager came up to say hi and ask how I was doing.
The room was quite small but enough for one person. Overall, this hotel is underrated and needs more exposure so others can gain this unique vibe.

Very disorganized front desk! They had a plumbing emergency And put us in the wrong room. A queen vs a double.
No apologies first nite. Thank goodness we booked through Priceline who helped negotiate a price reduction for two days and an upgrade.
We still ended up in a double. But it was a suite. However at check out they could not find notes on 40 dollar reduction!!!
I had to forward email from Priceline.
They offered us a free night but «no, thank you!» Great concept bad organization. They need to have a process in place for staff communication to be smooth and clear.
Do not book directly!!!
I would not return. I would spend more to be in Manhattan or stay in a newer boutique hotel in Astoria. Many new ones opening up.

This is a review worth reading, trust me.
The hotel has horrible customer service. The associate front desk manager blamed me for a miscommunication that the «agent» who I had spoken to prior to the booking had ensured me my stay and the terms that were stated. Honestly, there is no parking, The place looks like shabby and a mock impression of an old antique store. There is nothing that I like about this hotel.
Its pitch dark in there and it was in a bad area that seemed a bit lifeless. The main reason I paid and left the hotel was because the associate front desk manager tried to argue with me when I was explaining the situation that was occurring and what had happened prior to my booking and the main terms that I was expecting when I arrived. He did not let me finish my sentences, jumped into the middle of my statements and did not even offer a compromise to me. The problem was that the agent misinformed me of the cancellation policy. I explained and he said it wasnt her fault that I misunderstood when she was speaking english.
Honestly, not a good hotel. The front door entrance is a flimsy floor and the establishment doesn’t seem too good. I checked into the Roger 5 minutes later at 5AM and they had a room for me even though I booked merely 20 minutes earlier. The concierge asked me where we had come from and we told him the paper factory hotel. He shook his head and said, «Ive heard of it and im sorry.» My friend and I were like «Us too.»

1. our bed was broken which is crazy that Its $ 300/​night.
2. we couldn’t access the wifi even when it was connected.
3. the water in the shower was ice water, I have to spend my free time same day of check-​out waiting for them to fix it.
4.the heat was not warm enough to warm up the room.
I am very disappointed. When your paying good money to stay in a brand «new» hotel than I expect it to be up to par. This is a so-​called 4.5 star hotel.

This is the noisiest hotel ever, you can hear EVERYTHING from the hallway, outside and your neighbours. The rooms are only separated by a paper thin door meaning that you hear everything from the room next door.
For no reason the firealarm started one morning, it was so extremely loud that i still find my ears ringing. The staff told ud that this is something that happens without any reason — how unprofessional! A hotel with no control of the basics.
Stay away for your own good.
