I’ve had BBQ from all over the country and this place is worth going to. Excellent BBQ and a wonderful chalkboard of beer to pair with your meal. and great live music on the weekend.

Best BBQ place in town. Burnt tips are scrumptious and flavorful. The corn bread alone is worth the trip. Sauces are decent but enjoyable. Wait time is non existent. Plus an outdoor area and mediocre beer choices. For those who do not operate a vehicle he train is directly across. For the adults with a car, tons of parking. Must go!!!

Grabbed lunch here and grabbed the special, which included two meats. This time I decided to enjoy it with the cole slaw and kimchee, which I consider Korean cole slaw. Like most smokehouses, it’s not cheap, but the food is amazing. This is no place for a vegetarian.

Not sure what was better… the delicious BBQ food or the great atmosphere and live music. Really awesome time all around. Best thing was the corn pudding and next time I wouldn’t waste my time with the coleslaw. The brisket sandwich was really good!

The John Brown Smokehouse solidified the idea that BBQ restaurants are not for me. The place is has a diner type of appereance. Very busy on a Friday night, although there was enough place to sit. I ordered the Burned Ends sandwich. Very expensive for what you are getting: two slice of white bread with meat. I did not really have an understanding of what the Burned Ends would encompass, but I was not impressed. Except for the parts that were more of less of a drier structure of meat the rest was very slimey. I’m definitely not a big fan of that kind of texture, especially on the bread that would just be soaked and not provide an opposing texture. The taste was pretty balanced but again I wasn’t blown away. In the end it was expensive and not really for my taste — and after eating I still was hungry, so just a sandwich will not still your hunger. Order sides!

Spring for the burnt ends. Totally worth the $ 2 extra. This is actually some of the best barbecue I’ve ever had — and I’m including Deep South, Midwest, and Texas.

My goodness! I don’t know where to start. By the time I left this place I had a food baby. I got the two meat platter. Pastrami and burnt ends with the cornbread. My friends got brisket, ribs, Mac n cheese. We all tried each other’s food and for me the burnt ends were amazing. I don’t know how else to describe it other than burnt flavor filled chewy meat. Ugh it was so good! But that cornbread. Idk if anyone remembers raynors cabin corn fritters but I loved them and this was like my fritters came back to me lol. Wish I lived closer because I’d like to try everything on the menu. I was confused at first about how to order. You walk in look at the chalkboard pick your food order and then sit. They call your name when it’s ready and then you sit to experience deliciousness. I drove from Bethpage to come here and this place did not disappoint. Cannot wait to come back.

I would rate John Brown’s four and a half stars. It’s among the New York metro area’s best barbeque restaurants along with Fette Sau and Hometown Barbeque. We had the burnt ends, brisket, and pork belly with sides of collard greens and Mac n cheese. The dry rub on the smoked meats has tremendous flavors; it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. For that reason, I highly recommend the burnt ends. Both sides were very solid; I would recommend both. There is a bar at the rear of the restaurant with about eight beers on draft. All of the beers are craft and in-season.

Good location and easy to find parking is great for this place. We went at 6pm on a Saturday and the place was crowded. Overall food was high quality and great tasting. We ordered the turkey sandwich which is a bit spicey and really good and moist. We also had the burnt ends and didn’t disappoint. Would be back for sure.

If you’re in the mood for comfort food, John Brown’s is the ticket. We ordered brisket, rib tips, baked beans, mac & cheese, and corn bread. The brisket was moist and delicious! The rib tips were good too, but a bit dry. Their amazing BBQ sauces helped with that of course, but I wish I would have ordered twice as much brisket instead. The corn bread and baked beans are the best I’ve ever had! The corn bread is sweet, moist, and extremely flavorful. The beans were a nice mix of sweet and spicy, and I loved that it had chunks of meat throughout. The Mac & cheese was pretty good as well! All in all, some of the best BBQ I’ve had. Highly recommend!

That cornbread soufflé or casserole is everything. I can just sit in the bed and eat a pan of it and be in a happy place. The BBQ is good as well, but I am a good ol Texas girl so… There is usually a line up when you come here but service is quick and the line moves fast. The portions are huge. I always take some home because they give you at least 2 meals. Oh, that good ol Mac and Cheese is Kraft all the way. It just cheesy goodness.

Came here with one of my friends that has been trying to get me to come here for a while. I wish I came sooner. This place has amazing barbecue food. We ordered half slab ribs, burnt ends meat, brisket sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. Every single meat I listed just melts in your mouth. Everything was cooked to perfection with great flavor. My favorite was the ribs and burnt ends. The fries were also great. Decent amount of seating. The food comes out quick. They have an outdoor section during the summer. If you’re looking for some good barbecue food this is the spot to come to.

Had a decent experience with my boyfriend and some friends at the John Brown Smokehouse. Upon entering the JB Smokehouse, you are greeted with a giant wall-sized menu to your left. After perusing the offerings, you can place your order and pay with the cashier at the front. If you’re interested in lemonade or other non-alcoholic drinks, this is where you order them. If you’re fancying a beer, that’s at the bar in the back. We’ll get there. Seating is self-serve, so make sure there’s a place for your group to sit before you commit to an order. I had the 1⁄3 lb. pork belly sandwich($ 7.50), and my boyfriend had the John Brown reuben sandwich(house cured pastrami, swiss cheese, coleslaw topped with russian dressing on a roll — $ 12.50). We got some fries, mac and cheese, and cornbread sides so our entrees wouldn’t get lonely. After we were seated, I took a quick trip to the bar, where they have a nice little beer selection. It’s small, but it seems like there’s always an offering from Hill Farmstead(we had What is Enlightenment?), and the bottle selection is fairly priced. You can see what’s up on beer menus: The boyfriend really enjoyed his reuben, but I was a little bit underwhelmed by my own. It was a bunch of pork belly slices slapped between two pieces of white bread. This is exactly what I was expecting, but it could have used something else — coleslaw?, mayo?, really anything that would make it more moist. I wish I had thought of that before ordering. The pork belly was pretty good. The mac and cheese was not my favorite ever, but I did plow through it. Our dining companions had a pile of meat, a brisket salad, and baked beans. They enjoyed their food, but I thought the brisket piled on iceberg lettuce and iceberg lettuce alone looked pretty sparse. But the cornbread… The cornbread is the absolute highlight of this place. Literally ah-mazing. It is served as a loose pile of cornbread chunks which has whole kernels mixed throughout. It was warm, sweet, and fluffy. I was disappointed about having to share the side because it was so delicious. Overall, I would come back for the cornbread and to try some other meats. Or put some mayo on the pork belly sandwich.

Very good place! The flavor is very good, the brisket was a bit dry but the sauce helps. The cornbread is delicious, the mac n cheese was pretty good, ribs were ehhh– could be better. Giving it 4 stars because I’ve had better overall, but this place is definitely a good spot. Good service. Reasonably priced.

I LOVE this place… The food is amazing. You can smell it half a block away The atmosphere is casual and the prices arent bad at all. I got the combination of 3 ribs and a quarter chicken… the meat was perfect on both. I loved them both and have been craving more ribs since then. lol The french fries were salted perfectly. I cant wait to go back.

Updating my review because I tried the burnt ends and they’re to die for. If you get those, five stars, without a doubt. If you get anything else, I’d say it’s a solid 3 – 4 stars, depending on your expectations. You still kind of have to rely on the BBQ sauces for some flavor and moisture, which is a little frustrating, but I was much more impressed my second time here, which was coincidentally on the 4th of July. Mostly I just want to eat their burnt ends all the time, though. I stand by my previous statement that it’s a little pricier than I like, but I’m willing to pay it for the burnt ends. As far as side dishes, their corn bread is heavenly. Still a fan of the mac and cheese but I’d go for corn bread over it. In the summer, the back patio is super enjoyable, and I definitely recommend it.

I heard some good reviews about this place so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the 2 meat platter with a side(Burnt End & Brisket + Mac & Cheese). It’s 2 bucks extra for the burnt ends. After hearing the glowing reviews about the burnt ends, I was disappointed. It wasn’t as flavorful as other people described it. My burnt end was dry and I had to add a lot of sauce to make it enjoyable. I enjoyed the brisket and mac & cheese more. I would consider the place moderately pricey. Expect to spend around $ 20 for a meal. It’s a cool hangout place with outdoor seating and a wide beer selection. It has a hipster feel to the place. There are better places out there.
