Free Art! The exhibit when I went was called«Literary Devices.» It varied from pieces that made my jaw drop, to pieces that I was not totally impressed by. Many works by the same artists and most fairly easily fit the theme. The center was very quiet when I was there and it was just me and my baby exploring the three floors. I will be back with friends since I live in the neighborhood.

I found out about this fantastic art museum through a local Long Island City, New York brochure and I just took their recommend and swung by here for a visit. This museum is housed in a former parachute harness factory, the 25,000 square foot museum was designed by Max Gordon in association with Bill Katz and is devoted to the exhibition and study of the contemporary art collection of Emily Fisher Landau. The core of the 1,500 work collection spans from 1960 to the present and contains key works by artists who have shaped the most significant art of the last 50 years, including Richard Artschwager, Donald Baechler, John Baldessari, Jenny Holzer, Alfredo Jaar, Neil Jenney, Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Sherrie Levine, Glenn Ligon, Agnes Martin, Robert Rauschenberg, Susan Rothenberg, Ed Ruscha, Kiki Smith, Mark Tansey and Cy Twombly. Emily Fisher Landau’s insightful selection of works by contemporary masters, many of which she bought from the artists early in their careers is reflected in exhibitions presented at the Fisher Landau Center for Art. Her ongoing commitment to emerging artists extends to the annual presentation of the Columbia University School of Visual Arts MFA Thesis Exhibition. In May of 2010, Mrs. Landau made a historic pledge of 417 artworks by nearly 100 artists to the Whitney Museum of American Art. Excerpts from LEGACY a traveling exhibition that highlights the gift to the Whitney Museum will be on tour at various venues throughout the United States through 2015. Furthermore, this museum contains two floors of very beautiful art to be cherished and I more than highly recommend that you pay them a visit!

FREE Thursdays thru Mondays 12pm to 5pm! Long Island City lies a gallery where«Donald Baechler: Painting & Sculpture» exhibit is installed on two floors. To further enhance art aficionados, Andy Warhol’s 1981 original«Myths» is permanently displayed here at Fisher Landau Center For Art. This space was originally a factory for parachute harness, which New York philanthropist, Emily Fisher Landau has generously open a gallery housing contemporary art. On a Friday afternoon, in total despair wash out and distraught, with a friend I sought to escape from reality in hopes of bronze flowers, tulip sculptures can ease and comfort. I like tulips and roses for flowers which«Donald Baechler: Painting & Sculpture» is my favorite exhibit at Fisher Landau. Staff is very courteous and space is very large, clean and bright without being cramped of a subway during rush hour. Staff are not of the typical Manhattan abrasive museum or gallery«Big Brother is Watching You» for constant monitoring gallery patrons’ every move and non-flash photography is welcomed. Disappointingly, there is no ticket or gallery pin as proof of entry, which I have nothing to add to my collection of museum/gallery visits. Every exhibit has a written detailed thumb nail photo description for patrons as a guide and a keepsake. Two slate and marble benches inscribed a long quote: «It can be helpful to think of them eating their favorite foods and occasionally throwing up and getting bits stuck in their noses.» «You spit on them because the taste left on your teeth excites. You showed hope all over your face for years and then killed them in the interest of time.»

Long Island City is starting to become one of my favorite places to experience art! There are so many gallery’s and they seem to just keep popping up. One worth visiting is the Fisher Landau Center For Art. A beautifully designed studio building devoted to the contemporary art collection of Emily Fisher Landau with so much to see and experience. The core collection spans from the 60s to today and boosts 1,500 works, plus they seem to always have cool special exhibits happening as well.
