Court Square Subway Complex

This station is 1 of 2 hubs in LIC area.
From here you can catch the 7, G, E and M trains. The 7 train is above ground while the others are below.
The 7 also connects with the other main hub in the area.
The G train travels from here to Brooklyn mainly on the coast but does connect with the F train for at least the last 5 stations. It is a fairly short train line and consists of 4 train cars rather then the standard 8.
The E/​M trains travel east to west bound going from deep Queens to Manhattan and then looping back around to end in Brooklyn.
The station and connection points are relatively clean and maintained. Plus it also has an elevator for those who are handicapped which is a rarity in this system.
The one thing that makes this station unique is the airport style tread walkway between the G train and E/​M lines. I’ve enjoyed walking this with both myself and my young dog. The unfortunate issue with the walkway though is that it only goes one way. (From G to E/​M). If they were smart it would change with the flow of traffic or if that’s not possible add a second one in.
Overall this station is cleaner then most.

What is there to say, really? It’s a subway station. It’s a great hub, with 7, E, M, and G trains. I live off of the G train, and this station is super useful to transfer to the 7, which is what I use it the most for. The M is pretty useful as well. Yes, it’s almost always really crowded, but the walkways are wide enough to accommodate a lot of people. The only thing is that the escalator going up to the 7 is broken a lot of the time.

‘Complex’, huh? Not nearly enough signs, and the few there are are poorly placed and not intuitive, but at least you can transfer readily, even if its very presence seems to cause sudden stops andunnecessary congestion.

Much like the Virginia Slims cigarette ads on the back of TV Guide years ago proclaimed, you’ve come a long way baby!
Now I’m not saying visiting the Court Square subway complex will give you cancer, but I’m not NOT saying it either.
In any event, I’ve been a regular user of this complex for 8 years… six years I was a G train main, commuting from Park Slope to LIC but after moving in 2013 (and abdicating my G train dukedom) I became an E train dude.
Over that time, there have been numerous improvements, the most important of which is the connection of the 7 train to the rest of the complex. Yes, there is a rabbit warren of tunnels to make connections between the 7, G, E and M trains, but don’t forget, when the tracks were designed there were multiple, competing subway lines servicing New York and they had no incentive to make it easy to transfer to a competitors service. The simple fact that you can make that easy 7-​train connection is really amazing and was completed almost on schedule by the MTA. When I lived in Brooklyn, that made it a lot easier to get to Citi Field!
Of course there are still drawbacks, the numerous leaks beneath Citibank being the most egregious. When it rains, it’s like being in a George Michael video so much water is dripping on you and you’re not quite sure what’s in it. Also, the high entry/​exit turnstile on the Manhattan-​bound side of the 44^th Dr entrance needs to be kept in better repair. And they should add another one because that is a very busy entrance.
But over the years, the announcements have become better, the G train platform seems cleaner and the station has a more upbeat feeling to it.
Overall, I think it’s a pretty good complex.

I have to give this station four stars, it is really a great hub! There was a review where it was mentioned that the walk to the 7 from the E/​M is too far. Folks forget that there used to be NO transfer at this station from the 7 train — one had to exit the station and then use their Metrocard to re-​enter where the G train was located about 2 blocks away. The connection from the 7 train is newly built and looks fine.
Another reason for the great review is that it is really simple for me to go from my office in LIC and be in Ft. Greene to hang out within 30 minutes. True, the G train is not the best train in the system and I do take it during rush hour when the service is better, but it is a quick ride. Folks do not complain — you’re lucky that you have a train to take you back to your places in Greenpoint and Williamsburg so stop being snobbish hipsters and ride your bike over the Pulaski if you do not like the station.

The connecting terminal to Queens and Brooklyn, located in the no man’s land in the «bad» part of (what I believe is) LIC, stocked with industrial silos, smoke, dirty water, and stairs. Lots of stairs. Don’t want to pay for a treadmill? Just use this terminal and take the stairs, as you will be walking up and down a lot of them.
Even in the cold weather months, I enjoy the outdoor vistas that the Queens 7 and N/​Q lines have to offer. The NY skyline truly is a sight to behold, whether it be snow-​capped in the winter, scorching in the summer, waking up at daybreak, or partying up in the twilight hour; this honestly makes a convincing case for greatest city on the planet.
That being said, this particular Queens station offers none of the aforementioned fluff. Rather you get walled in, and this is an outdoor station, so I want my view. All I can see is the smoke stacks… boo.
If not for the inherent need for you in order to connect the two other boroughs, you would be dead to me Court Square Subway Complex.

No words for how much I loathe this train terminal. Sure, the neighborhood outside of Court Square’s dirty, dirty walls is pretty cool… IN THE DAY TIME… but this train station is stupidly laid out. All the trains are what feels like miles from each other and let’s talk about that stupid flat floor escalator. This isn’t an airport… they move so slow that you’re really better off just walking.
The G is sometimes a sparkly unicorn of a train. When it works it’s glorious and when it doesn’t, then it’s a long stupid walk to the 7 for you (unless you’d rather take a shuttle during those painful «Fast trach» weekends. Yarg.
Sure, the G, 7, E and M trains all stop here so that’s convenient for inter-​borough transportation purposes, but there are still way too many long tunnels. I would much rather transfer at smaller, much better organized Queens travel hubs such as Queensboro, Queens Plaza or 74^th and Roosevelt.

This is the station where you can catch a 7, G, E, or M train. It’s under the tallest building in Queens, the CitiCorp Tower. Lots of great things in this neighborhood, including 5 Pointz, and the only Quiznos in Queens.
