Based on samples 2 years in a row at Bryant Park Winter Village, it’s no surprise this place closed, as it’s a weak product and a poor business idea.

I actually found out that this place is closed during a recent visit to LIC. So, um, yeah, awkward. anywho, I wish them well in their future endeavors, they were really quite friendly.

Truly excellent, delicious, NOVEL, hand-made pastries. Friendly, chill little bakery. If you like your food unique and not chain-y, then support this place. It’s a gem!

I’ve had the so-called chimney cakes in Transylvania and fell in love with them instantly. How could you not? With the thin sweet dough wrapped up just waiting to be gently pulled apart, it’s one of the most delicious simple sweets ever. Chimney Cake NYC definitely deserves credit for bringing this rare treat to New York City, but like most things that require authenticity, Chimney Cake could never possibly live up to the real deal. However, it’s still very delicious. The café itself could use some more-ness, for lack of a better word. It feels empty and I“m sure there are enough Hungarian and eastern European treats to fill up the store(or the block!). Randomly, I should add that I had the chimney cakes in Tel Aviv of all places, too!

Your average Hungarian Transylvanian dessert shop. Moving in to the area within a block of Chimney Cake, I’ve walked past it 40 times already dreaming up whatever the hell a Chimney Cake was. So this Saturday came, and off we went to grab a Chimney Cake. Looking at a menu that felt too small for such a large storefront, we ordered a Traditional with Nutella to go. Peeling it away, it tasked like a sweet-ish pretzel in a cylindrical form — with a ketchup cup sized portion of Nutella. It was kinda good, kinda like a pretzel, at kind of a decent deal. So. .. yeah. I know they have coffee and hot chocolate and other things, but it just seems like not enough available to make this place a strong, working business. That being said, it’s worth a try if you’re in the area, but if you don’t like fresh pretzels, then this is not your bag, baby.

Their cheese chimney cake was pretty good and I surprisingly liked it more than the cinnamon(even though I prefer sweet to savory). They unfortunately didn’t have the rolls(beiglis?) ready, so we didn’t get to try them.

«What’s a chimney cake?» I asked. «It’s like a rolled up sweeter pretzel, or a rolled up less-sweet donut» she replied. «Sign me up!» I responded enthusiastically. It was cold outside, but I wanted something to accompany me on my walk home. Chimney cake is rarely open by the time I get out of work, so today was my lucky day. Look, you’re not gonna get blown away by chimney cakes. It’s exactly how I described it up top. Lots of variety in terms of toppings/flavors though! It’s one of those subtle treats that fills you up and just simply tastes good. Now that I’ve had it, I know that I’ll definitely be in the mood for it in the future too.

It’s a really cute place. It’s slightly off to the side but worth a small trip. My friend and I were supposed to go for Fro yo in Astoria but decided not to. I found out about Chimney Cakes on grouping(still hate myself for not getting the deal). The place has some seating but not a lot. They specialize in a Hungarian pastry that is hollowed in the middle. The woman who was working there offered us a sample. It was good, just a little dry. But we went for it. We got the almond one with nuttella dipping sauce. This was much better than the sample. For $ 4 its actually a large portion that should be shared. I also bought a cinnamon one to take home. After having it with me for a few hours it was still moist. My brother likened it to a thinned out cinnamon bun. Definitely taking a trip back there for other flavors.

Hungarian bakery! I studied abroad in Budapest, so I dragged a group of folks here over the weekend. After picking up chai from nearby Sweetleaf, we wandered down the street for some chimney cake. The staff were all friendly and you get to see some cool baking implements. We ordered 2 chocolate chimneys and 1 cinnamon sugar. The cinnamon sugar came out first, and I was pleased, but when my friends’ chocolates(dusted with cocoa powder) came out piping hot a few minutes later, I wished mine had been warm also. Maybe request a warm one when you order? Even with the cold chimney, this would be the perfect bakery if they just tried to warm up the décor a bit more. It’s pretty sterile in a pizza slice kinda way. I hope they take a lesson from Sweetleaf and make it more inviting.

Tasty and different Central European treats. It’s fun to unroll a length of barely sweet chimney cake and pop it in your mouth – great with a cup of hot coffee. I can recommend the three flavors we tried – chocolate, almond, and coconut – but the options change regularly. We sampled the walnut beigli and immediately bought a couple to slice up for a future brunch. The crescent cookies are filled with apricot and dusted with powdered sugar. Everything was solid and honest deliciousness, and the prices are very reasonable. Anna, the personable owner, explained that she was still trying to figure out how to get around the one drawback of chimney cake: its very short shelf life. We put ours in the freezer overnight and warmed them up before eating.(Don’t tell Anna, but even stale chimney cake can be enjoyed after a short stint in the toaster oven.)

The chimney cakes were fairly tasty. We tried the almond, cheese, and chocolate. The cheese was definitely the standout. This place would be better if they had a larger selection of savory cakes. As nice as the people there were, I don’t think I’d go back.

4 bucks for a piece of bread that was cooked in a funnel, semi sweet glazed on the outside. Good but not worth the $ 4, I’d rather do chinese style toasted bread + condensed milk toast at home, now that is YUM!

Am not sure if this place has got a fair share of visitors yet. But they do deserve a visit and kudos for presenting New Yorkers with an authentic Hungarian style bakery. The kurtoskalac(chimney cake) is awesome and at 4 $ a cake, is a pretty good deal as well. Am sure the husband-wife duo in Chimney Cake NYC will get more visitors pretty soon. One of them will surely be me: D. Want to try out their cheese kurtoskalac(they had run out of the cheese one). As a replacement, we tried the almond one and it was brilliant.

There was a living social coupon for this place so I figured it would be a great opportunity to try some chimney cake. Seeing this deal was actually the first time I ever heard of this type of cake and I was fascinated by its design. After trying these cylinders of goodness, I would recommend the ginger and the sesame. They were mildly sweet and has a little crisp to it. At $ 4 a cake, it is not a bad deal.

Made a special trek out to Long Island City yesterday to sample the intriguingly named chimney cake(anything with an alliterative + cake that hails from Hungary/Translyvania = done deal), and happy to report it was worth it! We sampled the coconut cake($ 4.00), which is plenty big enough for two to share and peels off in pleasingly shareable and spongy strips and washed down with a cup of coffee($ 1.75). The store is located on the ground floor of a luxury condo on Jackson Avenue and run by a very sweet proprietess who kindly asked us if we’d ever had chimney cake and offered us plenty of samples. Be sure to check out all the chimney cake making apparatus hanging on the wall.

Pretty cool pastries. It’s $ 4 for a sweet bread that’s wound in a cylinder fashion to resemble a chimney. It’s quite simple and pretty tasty. Not much more to say. There’s coffee and tea here as well.

Okay. I like to try out new things. This is the cinnamon flavor pastry. It’s an old school sweet dough with a sweet sticky wash. the hollow pastry is baked on what looks like over an open flame oven suspended by a pipe. it is expensive at four dollars and thirty six cents each(I guess tax isn’t included with the 4 dollar posted price but it does slow down the buying process) It taste okay. Nothing special. You can add Nutella for 50 cents and I believe they also serve coffee. I hope they sell wholesale or something because there is not a lot of foot traffic in the area. The service was okay. I walked in, and they asked me if I could be helped. I eyed the sample tray but none was offered. They wrap the gigantic pastry in cellowrap and a plastic shopping bag. No small chit-chat or talking about their business was offered. At least TRY to be friendly and try to drum up business when you are only offering one type of exotic pastry unfamiliar to most non-Hungarians.
