I’ve been visiting Maria ever since I moved down to long beach. Love her! She’s helping me get my hair healthy again and she’s knowledgeable about all the products/​techniques out there. She’s also super flexible with her appointments.
Highly recommended!

When I first came here years ago (check out my other review «Annette») I saw Marie doing my Momz hair and said yep I found a new loctician its amazing watching her apply color, not just to my dreadlocs, my Mom at that time had a short Afro, I think Marie just about grabbed each individual piece of hair and gently, yet skillfully, applied the color. I still don’t color often (once a year, twice if I’m bold) but I only trust her to bless my crown. From the first wash to the scalp massage and warm/​cold water rinse… Heavenly. I still can’t figure out how she makes my hair so soft without piling products on it. Marie is constantly growing and learning about her art. She’s «in the know». I’ve been on this loc journey for almost 11 years now, sometimes she twists me up, sometimes she just separates the locs and makes them neat but I never ever pass on a good wash and scalp massage I admit, I selfishly pray she’s always here to do my hair. Treat yourself, you deserve it

I’m so happy I found a good hair salon I can go to. everyone was very welcoming. Johnathan was the best. he gave me exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be going back and hopping I found a hairstyles. Shout out to @dj’s hair salon

I have brought my daughter in to this salon two times to have her dreads worked on. Both appointments exceeded my expectations. Going into a salon that specializes in African American hair can be intimidating on account my daughter is not yet sports dreads. Both stylist made her feel so comfortable and gave her lots of tips on how to form and take care of them. I think each stylist sets their own price but each time I felt the price was very fair. The salon itself is located on a corner and there is lots of parking on the street or in the lot. Inside is clean and stylish. I will continue to choose this small business for my girls hair. Glad I found them!

I have had terrible and okay service with stylists especially wearing my hair natural. Sometimes it seems all these beautiful stylists want is just their money. Maria is different. As a college student/​worker who knows how to budget, she really and i mean really fit into my budget. All i can say is GO! She took time to wash my hair, cut my hair (yes! trim… cut…my hair) and she deep conditioned it, put me under the dryer, and used the lowest heat to straighten my hair. She has such a wonderful personality and her salon is filled with GREAT vibes. The other stylists are very nice too! Beautiful personalities. I was loving my hair when i walked out of the salon. Pony tail looking sharp! Definitely going back again and again! Like i can say is… GO!

If you’re looking for a place that is both relaxing and fun, Textures is your next destination. Marie (owner and stylist) offers a plethora of options for natural hair like myself. She is very accommodating and will do her best to work around your schedule. My weave is fabulous!

It’s difficult to find a salon where you are not immediately swept up into a flurry of gossip. Marie (the owner and awesome hair stylist) really takes care of you. She does locks for all kinds of hair types. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. I love this place!
It’s a smaller place, so it’s never really crowded here. It’s very cozy and offers a small rack of clothes made by a local designer, sometimes handbags and a small, hand picked assortment of jewelry and hair products.
I think they may have a room for waxing.
Marie likes to keep a streamlined salon, so everything is very organized and coordinated. The toasty brown tones make the space seem warm and welcoming
I remember going natural a few years ago, I struggled to find a salon that appreciated natural styles and would easily guide you through the process (or switch to presses without a lot of fuss and complaining) but Marie at Textures really set my mind at ease.
The first time I walked in and asked for tips for keeping my Afro, Marie reached out to my head and gently assessed my tight curls. I was surprised she immediately touched a strangers hair, but I appreciated her knowledge base of hair types (I’m a 4B!) and recommendation of appropriate products.
She made a recommendation and a few months later, I continued my hair journey with her! I have been coming here for at least 2 years.
She often offers me tea when i come in and she has a very flexible schedule for certain things you want done. I love that she accepts text messages when i am at my whits end with my hair and i need to be rescued from it. immediately. :]
I never trusted anyone to do very much to my hair, because all too often, hair dressers will put your hair how THEY want it. Sad face. But, since coming to Marie, I have ventured into putting some rinses in my hair to add color for the first time — a huge step for me!
