Taqueria La Mexicana is my guilty pleasure. I somehow end up ravenous at the takeout window about once a week. The burritos, meat combo plate(mmm…al pastor and carne asada), tacos, nachos, and sopas are all amazing and the portions are HUGE. I bring all of my friends here when they visit from out of town and add eggs to my leftover carne asada and call it breakfast. After two years of frequent visits, the only miss in my opinion is the guacamole, but the green salsa more than makes up for it! My favorite inexpensive takeout in Long Beach hands down!

A tiny walk-up taqueria on the corner of E. 4th Street and Coronado Avenue that is another nice option for tasty tacos in Long Beach. Tacos($ 1.50 each) are small Mexican street-style but generously filled with chopped meat, diced onions, cilantro and layered with a peppery hot sauce. Asada is the most popular meat choice as expected but the spotlight should be on its succulent carnitas. The asada(beef steak) was well-seasoned, savory with a subtle sweetness. The carnitas(braised pork) was even tastier: tender, fatty, moist and unmistakably delicious. The Three Taco Combo($ 6.99), which comes with beans and rice, is my recommended choice for those who enjoy some well prepared refried beans with tacos. Theirs is velvety smooth, rich and well-salted. I salivate at the thought of trying a bean and cheese burrito upon another visit. Asada fries, super nachos, chile verde(pork in green sauce), tortas and seafood cocktails are some of their other popular dishes. Orders are placed outside at the counter window. There is shaded outdoor seating to its right, including eight tables. Four tables seat two, the others will seat up to four people. Food comes fairly quick. Tables look like they could be wiped down more frequently. There is only street parking available and finding an open spot nearby can prove to be a challenge. I would not completely bypass Hole Mole, which is just a block(southwest) away, for this taco joint. The carnitas, however, is very good and may even be better here than the establishment favorite. Taqueria El Mexicana is certainly another nice inexpensive option for local patrons and Mexican food lovers. Open 7 days a week, 9am-9:30pm. CASHONLY. There is an ATM machine inside the dining area.

Been coming here for years now and only order the Asada burrito with everything. Warning that the hot sauce inside the burrito is pretty spicy! 3 stars because the price has gone up a few dollars in the past year, tables are almost always dirty, and you have to go to the window and ask for salsas, lime and pickled jalapeños which the employees seemed annoyed about giving to you. I’m used to hole mole with their self serve salsa bar so you don’t feel bad about going up and asking for more like what happens here.

Ordered here for the first time got a Carne torta, Carne tacos, the taquito plate, and a Cali burrito. Little pricier than I would have expected but the Carne was a good quality so I didn’t mind. The torta was the best I’ve found in the LBC and my seven year old said the tacos are his new favorite(he’s seriously the worlds pickiest eater). Taquitos were ok nothing too special but the beans and rice were amazing. My lower stars is because I called in for pick up and they forgot the burrito in my order… then I drive back get home only to discover my burrito is drenched in sour cream like a bomb of blobby white slime when I specifically ordered it without. Rather unpleasant mouthful of foul dairy product for me. Super bummed I wasted my time and money. They should have got it right the first time it really wasn’t the best first take out experience. Oh and their guacamole is disgusting. It’s this weird shiny bright green goop I’m not sure it’s even fully avocado based. Tasted artificial and the texture was wayyyy off. They’re lucky my kid loves their tacos I’ll probably be back BUT checking my order before I get in my car…

just ordered taquito combo, tortha, six tacos and a Cali burrito with no sour cream… Picked up my order… Came home and see my burrito isn’t in the bag. I call and the dude was cool about it and said if I wanted to go back today or tomorrow! So I went and got it, came home…:… Wait for it… Wait for it… took one bite and there’s extra sour cream so freaking disappointed!!! But everything else was yummy!

Great place to come to snack at or to eat a meal! It’s on the corner of 4th and Coronado! The price has gone a bit up since the increase of supplies but understandable! Once you place your order u can either eat there or take it to go. I haven’t had it in a long while about 5 years so I can’t review my food. but I ordered the carne asada burrito with everything on it and the carne asada super tostada! And a large horchata total came out to be $ 17.17 I love the sense of community and support! But that’s jst me.

I’d love to try the rest of the menu! We had the carne asada, carnitas, and al pastor fries! Delicious-oh and a carne asada quesadilla to go. Even at the house these were the. I’m stuffed but still ready to head back and try some more. Good thing they are closed because I’d probably gain about ten pounds easy. The guy taking our order was so polite and helpful as well. Oh and the portions were HUGE filled us to the brim.

5STARFOODWITHOUT A DOUBT. Great prices. Great portions. The carne Asada tacos are A1. Best in long beach in my opinion and for just a 1.50(yes…that’s everyday) you can’t beat the price vs quality. While The food is definitely 5 stars, the only reason I am saying minus 1 star is due to the cash only policy. If they took credit/debit I would be there twice a day… every day… and would definitely give it a 5⁄5 overall. Square reader soon, maybe?

Dive places tend to be the best places to eat, this is one of them. The Asada fries were awesome and the lengua sope was amazing. I liked the enchilada and the green salsa was fantastic, definitely a fan of this place. There is one thing that bothers me: It’s a bummer they don’t accept debit/credit cards though, real inconvenient — Get with the times.

How I heard of this place: Unilocal.Hello, Elite ’16! Type of cuisine: All things Mexican. All things Mexican hole-in-the-wall. Ambiance: A true hole-in-the-wall, this house-turned-walk-up-restaurant has everything from television noises to grandma yelling at grandson in the house, to plastic fold-out tables and chairs under a covered porch complete with ATM and homemade patio setting. Walk up, place your order, pick up your styrofoam box at the window inside and take a seat or take your food to go. Simple. The opposite of pretentious. Hashtag mom’s patio.(#momspatio) What I ordered: My sister and I shared the infamous Carne Asada Fries($ 6.75): a pile of fries topped with carne asada, cheese, cilantro, guacamole, sour cream and a drizzle of hot sauce. My husband selected the California Burrito($ 6): a house special with fries, meat, sour cream and cheese. My other sister shared with us the Combo(3) Tacos with Rice & Beans($ 6.99): carne asada tacos with onion, cilantro and hot sauce. What I loved: Fries with meat and everything tasty!?! Heck, yes, I will! Why I loved it: The best of both worlds: USA meets Mexico in fries topped with the goods reserved for a plate of nachos. Cost: Low to average($ 6 — $ 7 per selection)

On another expedition on taco Tuesday, I came across this little spot. Place is real small and has a real small corridor with some tables to sit and eat. But today these bad boys were coming home. It is a cash only spot so be forewarned although there is an ATM near by. Tacos were decently priced and real good. Got brave and had the lengua once again and they didn’t let me down. Tried chili verde(pork in green chili sauce) which is a first for me with tacos but they were just as good. Their salsas are on point and real spicy, the red one is the real kicker but worth the pain. Real friendly staff and quick with your orders. This place is gonna be another hit on the taco Tuesday list in Long Beach!

It’s just OKAY. Im not sure what all the fuss is about. To be frank, the carne asada in my burrito was a bit chewy and the serving size was relatively small given the $ 7 price point. Flavor is ok but i definitely had better.

Today I had a chicken burrito for lunch. The chicken meat was mushy and pink… and the girl who gave me my food handled the cash with gloves on. I didn’t see her put new gloves on, this is gross. Everyone knows you’re not supposed to do this. I usually come here all the time. Previously the chicken was always well cooked and not pink. Not sure who has dropped the ball here. In the summer this place is crawling with flies in the cooking area and outside, and no fly traps in sight so no love lost. My stomach feels horrible but no other symptoms yet Hope I don’t get sick. Can’t get the image of a mushy pink chicken burrito out of my head. I should’ve just gone to In N Out. Ugh regret

Guys. Best burrito ever. I eat a s*** ton of burritos. Chipotle’s got nothing on this. I have no idea what is in it and how they make it but… Goddamn it’s good. Also ask for the hot sauce. So. GOOD. They recently raised the prices but hey ITISSTILLGOOD. Wet burrito is good. Cali is good I’ve been told and also the asada. I usually get vege burrito.

I came here because I wanted a sope. The sope itself was good. It had that slight crispness I love so much and the carne asada was cooked nicely. I do have 2 complaints though. 1, they put regular cheese on my sope. Everyone knows that a true Mexican place puts queso fresco on a sope. It would of been the perfect sope, a 5 star sope. But it is only a 3 star sope. The other complaint, I couldn’t share it due to the salsa. It would of been too spicy for the other person. I was going to ask for salsa, but they had put it on there without asking me.

I completely agree with Sridevi L. I haven’t been in a while, and I used to be able to get a burrito for under $ 5, but now it is almost $ 7? Like, Sridevi said, gradually raise your price, don’t just increase the price of a burrito 33%! They blame raising produce and meat costs, but meat and produce prices have been dropping all year due to the drop in fuel prices. Chicken is at the lowest price it has been in 5 years… yes beef is still high, but come on man.

If I had written this review a little over a week ago it would have been 4 stars. But sadly going here again 10 days later resulted me being extremely disappointed because THEYHAVESEVERELYINCREASEDTHEIRPRICES. :(:’(:””( I get that they need/want to increase prices as the years go on but I think they should have done it way more gradually. Old Prices: 1 taco = $ 1.10 1 regular burrito = $ 4.75 New Prices: 1 taco = $ 1.50 1 regular burrito = $ 5.50 *The entire menu has increased in price but I didn’t bother noting every one. And yes, it’s still CASHONLY. Okay so maybe«severe» is too harsh of a word but when you’re a broke college student still living at home in a family of five, $ 30 for twenty tacos is a noticeable difference compared to usually paying $ 22. I mean, no one gets a paycheck increase like that lol. In the end, this is enough to change us from regularly getting food here once every couple weeks to only once every couple of months now.

Pastor Fries, pastor tacos, sopes with pastor. Pastor everything! They have the best pastor ever. It’s tasty, delectable, & authentic. Plus, their green sauce is just an orgasm booster. Parking is a nightmare sometimes, but their food is so worth that walk around the block.

Yum! I come from Northern CA and the Mexican food cannot compare to this! I got 4 tacos: carnitas, al pastor, chili verde, and asada. The meat was so flavorful! The salsas were good too(you can ask for them). Plus, they were REALLY cheap! 4 tacos for $ 4.80 including tax and tip is amazing. There’s a large variety of food here. I was a bit sad they didn’t have fish tacos, but their meat was really good so it’s okay. I had a bit of my friends’ carne asada fries, and they were really good too. The fries were crispy, the meat was flavorful, and it came with a sufficient amount of toppings. Definitely come here! So good.
