Recreation Park Golf Course Banquet Facilities

Went to a wedding here and while it was set up nice the place was a bomb and not in a good way. Went to the ladies room, they had about 6 stalls maybe 1 had any paper in it. I had to go track someone down.
The food was so bad the staff was taking away more full plates then empty. It was tasteless and cold. The veggies were raw. I thought ok can’t go wrong with a roll, right? UGH the rolls were stale and as soon as you cut them open they crumbled in your hand.
I also got the impression that the staff didn’t want to be there, I don’t think I saw one smiling face the whole night.
DO NOT plan an event here FIND A DIFFERENT VENUE, your guests will not be happy!

This is a beautiful venue that I wish would have worked out for me. I was working with Cathy to book my September 10, 2011 wedding and was waiting for a call back. (this is not just a cool date to me and my fiancé, it is our anniversary as well).
Cathy seemed great, and like she would be willing to work with me. After two meetings with her we thought everything was going well. She said she would call us the following week to firm up the deposit and plans for the date. For a Saturday Wedding there is a minimum $ 5,000 required to be spent through her. And a $ 2,000 deposit to hold the date.
The week went by and there was no call. My first free morning I called her and left a message. My mother called and was able to get a hold of her. She had booked our date and had not made any attempt to call us. According to her notes she claimed that she had, but there is no record of any phone calls on my phone, nor any voice mails.
She does not care about you personally, only about money and booking a venue. So if you have money, go with this place, she will gladly take it from you. She was more than willing to give me another Saturday to get even more money, she would not even split the date that had been promised to us. I suppose in this economy this is was can be expected. Do not let her willing to work with you attitude fool you, all she goes by are notes on her computer and a check in her hand.

I thought that maybe I had written this review in haste and after having time to calm down and be adult about the whole situation I thought I would at least get a written quote for another Saturday with her. I had gone to several more venues in the Long Beach/​Huntington Area and and most had already been booked or had a crazy $ 10,000 minimums. I was still feeling like I could do better if I planned the whole thing myself! All of the venues stated that they would make the effort to make contact with the couple that came to them first prior to booking with someone else (without having given a deposit). They at least have a courtesy 7 – 10 day hold, so as not to rush you or pressure you into any kind of giant financial decision.
So I set up another meeting with Cathy, and brought my mother and fiancé with me. She was so completely rude and arrogant through the entire meeting. We had made the appointment the night before and she made such a HUGE deal about holding the date until our 1PM meeting the next day. She had had several appointments that morning and acted like she did us such a BIG FAVOR by keeping the new date we had chosen blacked out to those people.
She continued on about how she was very busy and had many people to see and that September/​October were hot months that she was booking quickly in them. We asked if we could have a day to think about the pricing (we met the day before her bridal fair) and if the venue would work for us financially. Cathy stated that she would not hold anything without the NON-​REFUNDABLE deposit of $ 2,000. She had also raised the minimum to $ 5,500 of food for the Saturday wedding. There was no hold time, there was only pressure to get our money.
Needless to say, we did NOT go with Rec Park because of her unprofessionalism and poor customer service. We have found a great Venue in San Pedro and a great catering company, all of it under the $ 5,500 for 150 people. Feel free to contact me if you would like the names of these places.
