Pelayo’s Burgers

Quick friendly and close to home, wish they had a drive thru since I tend to go at night. I usually only get burgers and fries, the nachos were good also. Didn’t care for their club sandwich, the meat tastes funny.

Soooo BOMB!!! Bacon Cheeseburger Heaven!

My boyfriend and I were driving home on PCH, starving and craving a burger. This place HIT THE SPOT. I agree that the staff was a bit impersonal, but other than that the burgers and fries we had were great! Extremely fresh! Hope the negative revues don’t stop you from trying this place.

Recently upgraded burger patties… more meaty now. Good, clean location. Nothing special though to make this place stand out.

I’ve read the other reviews and I can’t imagine we have visited the same establishment. Maybe they’ve changed owners/​workers?
Maria is my favorite; she is always so kind and upbeat. Her smile lights up the world.
What I love most about Pelayo’s is that when you go in to eat, they bring your food to your table. Most eateries of their caliber expect you to go and pick up your food.
The other day I asked for a fork with which to eat my french fries and forgot to ask for a knife to cut my burger in half. But glorious Maria brought me silverware AND plasticware wrapped very delicately in a napkin.
You just can’t beat that kind of service!!!
The food is top notch for an establishment of their ilk. The burgers are to die for, and I also love their wet burritos – gotta eat those in two or three sittings.
I am also thrilled (!!!) that they deliver; I am a bus rider, and sometimes I just don’t feel like the hike, ya know?
The only reason I am not giving five stars is that their sodas are warm when served in the establishment. I even asked for extra ice, but had to sip through my straw from the top of the cup to get to the part that was cold. If I had sipped from the bottom, it would have been WARM. This I know from frequent experience.
Most fast-​food establishments the drinks are so cold you don’t NEED ice. Gotta work on that, Pelayo’s.

Me and my boyfriend both ordered a burger and fries, for delivery and we both got horrible FOOD POISONING!!! Be careful with their food!!!

I have been going to this location all my life. These new owners who by the way is also the head cook needs to take some customer service classes. Also the staff. I ordered a breakfast burrito and once I took a bite I immediately opened it up to see what was In there. The eggs were no where yellow but dark brown like he over cooked them really bad. I went up to the cashier to ask if I can change it For like a burger, cuz that’s a safe choice right? I was wrong. The cashier was not customer friendly either she told me «oh I don’t know ask him «she pointed to the cook «he’s the owner. He makes a face when I tell her I didn’t like it. Like he was upset or maybe cuz he was the cook and no one should ever complain about his cooking? Most places would gladly exchange your food. That’s what a great business supposed to do. Anyways my burrito cost me about 6.50 and he refuse to let me get a burger combo that was 5.00 bucks! And I couldn’t even get cheese on my burger! This guy needs to pick a profession a cook or an owner. He seems like he can’t handle either.

Solid 3 ½ Star greasy burger joint. Huge menu and good prices. Had a double cheeseburger with fries and a drink for $ 8. Place was clean and service was friendly. A little slow for a burger, but not too bad. If you’re in the neighbor and lookin for cheap eatz, give this place a shot.

I’ve only gotten the colossal and bacon cheeseburgers which are really good. Along with the corn dogs. Plus they delivery! Can’t wait to try something new

Not bad… good prices. Decent food. You get what you pay for. Overall above average experience. Good mix of American and Mexican food, probably best if you take your food to go though. Enjoy the food but now the environment. Get the wet burrito… very good actually.

I USED to. come here for the taco plate… it was decently seasoned meat… hard to mess up a taco Right? Plus its a neighborhood business and I can usually seebthe family. that works here with thier kids, trying to earn a living like we all are SO I would come in. or call in every couple weeks. Not znymore!!! The counterperson was super rude today whdn i ordered the 5 taco plate… its 5 tacos no rice no beans… i said half chicken half steak like ive had it hundreds of times before and she said It HAS TO BE ALL one kind OF MEAT. I said… they hav made it the way
countless of times before… after all thats kind the reason WHY its a restaraunt… cook it how I want and I pay you. Her reply when I asked. why hings changed us «THATS HOW THE OWNER WANTS IT.» well… the owner aint payin right now is he?! He aint eatin em is he?!? So i proceed to order tacos individually and tell them to make them how I ordr them… and thay I wsnt to talk with the owner…“hes not here right now”. So i that it CLEARLY says on the menu «choice of meat» not «owners choice of meat» …and that we order regularly from them but will NEVER again… she says «so Ill cancel. your order than?» I then waited until everyone else who ordered after got thier food and endured them. speaking in Spanish and talking about me. I. have a news flash… ISPEAK SPANISH… i UNDERSTOOD when you called me a stupid lady and rude… among other things. Really!!!
I gave the tacos to my boyfriend and left completly disgusted. Do NOT eat here, people!!! Save yourselves the frustration and anger and check. out one of the burger joints a lil farther down PCH.

Food is ok. nothing to brag home about. They deliver so thats a plus. We’ve eaten there a few times and once in a while they’ll have the TV way too loud.
Its quick easy and safe choice.

They have 99 cent Peloya Burgers from Mon-​Thur and they are awesome. Cooked over a flame grill, the quarter pounders come with big buns, lettuce, tomatoes and some kind of special mayonnaise sauce. Great deal, and the diner itself looks very nice. There is beautiful artwork of Long Beach and very high ceilings. Keep in mind this is on the PCH down from Signal Hill so this is indicative of the neighborhood its in but I enjoy coming for the burgers once in awhile. There is even a small city playground behind it with benches. The service is inconsistent though as I have walked out without being served within a reasonable time on two occasions.

I have came here on two different occasions. First visit I ordered a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich and it was mediocre. I could have ordered an egg mcmuffin from mickey d’s and been more satisfied. But, I am a believer in second chances. So the second time around I wanted to order delivery. I placed an order for 2 hamburgers and wanted to end it there but they have a $ 15 min order for deliveries. So, I added an order of onion rings and asked what they had for drinks. The lady said «we have every drink.» Can you be more specific?
After my pregnant pause, she then read the list of drinks they actually had and I began placing my order for the drinks when she handed the phone to another worker with no warning. Hmmm… interesting. After having to re-​state my entire order, I waited for over an hour for the food to arrive. Not only did the hamburgers not come with lettuce or tomato, but I received three orders of french fries, cheese on a burger that wasn’t supposed to have it, and 2 wrong drinks. Where’s the onion rings right? Yea, I asked myself the same question. Needless to say, I am taking my dollars elsewhere.

I’m not sure who the owner is but one of the older workers there was just downright rude or possibly discriminating on me. The last few times I’ve been there to grab something cheap and small, I’m being overcharged and when I brought it his attention all he did was stare at me and speak in Spanish to his cook. I mean really?
Another time I ordered a chili cheese fries and they gave me all the leftovers scrapings of the chili and undercooked french fries. Again I brought it their attention and they argued with me thats how it’s suppose to be and continue speaking to each other in Spanish.
Seriously… It’s not like I’m rude, I come in, say hi and order my item and promptly thank them. In return I get horrible service and poor food. I’ve given this place many chances seeing that I used to live by there. Always a negative feeling leaving each time.

Pelayo’s has ALWAYS saved me when we have unexpected music sessions with friends at our place. I LOVE their hamburger specials of 5 hamburger meals with DRINKS all for under $ 20! They have delivery too!
I do recommend you ask for extra dressing for your burgers though.
My fiancé LOVES the chicken strip dinner. it’s his favorite.
The people there are pretty nice and the gals LOVE catering to our kids when we do eat in. It’s very clean and the t.v. keeps the kids entertained to say the least.
It’s nice to have a decent and AFFORDABLE buger place near us!

Was doing some more GQV stuff for the 2010 Census yesterday, was on PCH and though this place might be good.
It was.
It’s your standard Mexican/​American joint with a very detailed menu (with pictures) and offer sandwiches, burgers, salads, breakfast (all day) and dinners. Place is clean and has a real open feeling (windows on north and east sides of the building).
I had the Chicken Breakfast and eggs which consisted of a flattened/​tenderized chicken breast, three eggs over hard, hash browns and wheat toast. They don’t have any napkins, salt/​pepper, jellies at the tables, but the nice gal will bring them to you with your toast. They also serve this really intense green salsa that is fresh and packs quite a wallop.
So, why only three stars?
Water comes in a 10oz. Styrofoam cup, you have to go to the side counter and ask (no dispenser; at least you can pour your own coffee).
Had a couple big flat screen TVs playing some Spanish programming (whateva) really loud. Was going to say something but a couple other people were watching the show and I didn’t wanna be the pinche gringo that interrupted their show.
Other group had a couple kids that were running around the restaurant and being VERY loud. Not the typical 3-​year old running around and raising a ruckus, but a fucking little hell-​spawned terror that’d bite your kneecaps off and punch you in the ding-​ding for good measure. Poor parenting at its finest; thanks for interrupting my morning meal, assholes!
Food and service were fine, if I’m in the area I’ll try their breakfast burrito or the 5-​taco plate for $ 8.31 (strangest priced item on the menu).
No Mountain Dew, either.

I love coming here for breakfast. Their portions are good, the coffee is fresh, and the people working there are very friendly. Their prices are average and the quality of the food is comparable to other diner-​type Ameri-​Mexican places in Long Beach.
I ordered their nachos once and was horrified at their guacamole sauce. It was watery and had a funny taste. I just order it without the green mystery sauce and it’s all good.
I agree with Phia K. that it is a good family restaurant. Plenty of seating, never too busy. Only one short-​order cook so meals make take a while if you have a large party ahead of you.
