Great teachers. Wonderful showcases for students. Variety of classes. This would be a 5 star establishment if the classrooms were sound proof. It’s difficult for students and teachers to concentrate while lobby music classes are in session.

By way of background, I’m just some middle-aged guy that wants to learn to sing. To be clear, not to be a pro but just to be able to open my mouth and not have people look at me funny, squirm, or cover their ears with their hands. I’ve had the obligatory piano lessons when I was like 7 but other than that, I’ve had no formal music or voice training. But in recent years, I was very into playing guitar and uke and I just wanted to be able to sing along. These guys are very welcoming for someone like me. I am two lessons in now and am very hopeful! I ended up with Mr. Geoffrey who is the most down to earth, chill guy. I admit, I was a bit afraid going into this wondering whether I was too old given the very adolescent theme of Jammin Music. Or perhaps they were going to be super strict like the stories I hear about the classical guitar conservatores smacking me with a stick every time I was off pitch LOL! I just didn’t know what to expect. Well, the lady behind the counter was the first person I met after having made my first class reservations over the phone. She was very nice and welcoming so that was a great start. Then I met Mr. Geoffrey who, off the bat, made me feel very very comfortable. We got to know a little bit about each other and he fully understood where I wanted to be at with singing. Not once did I feel like a hopeless cause(which I honestly felt I was walking in there) but at the same time, I didn’t feel like sunshine was being blown up my rear end. It was just a very down to earth experience — like a friend helping me with something that I knew nothing about he knew everything. I had my second lesson last week and it was much harder. I mention this because one of my concerns coming out of the first lesson was whether maybe that was a little too down to earth. Not so with the second lesson. I really felt pushed — borderline intimidated — but that is really a good thing. There is a solid feeling of accomplishment and challenge at the end of a lesson like that. So now I am looking forward to my third lesson. So the big takeaways — 1) Not just for kids this place — in fact, never did I feel like I was an adult at a kids school. Actually, all the other students I saw were adults! 2) Friendly, knowledgeable, effective staff — who knows maybe that was a jedi mind trick with the first lesson to lull me into a comfortable zone then the second lesson was the stick! LOL. Maybe the third will be wax on wax off and he shows me the«crain kick» who knows but the point is it is effective whether by design or not. 3) Market price — not lower not higher but just right and given the experience so far, definitely well worth it. So if you’re in a similar position as I am, kicking yourself for not taking this stuff more seriously as a kid, just do it. You won’t regret it and music is such a great thing anyway.

The owners are rude! One owner had me pay for my next session a week in advance to hold my spot(something that I was told that I didn’t have to do to hold my spot initially). I ended up getting very sick and couldn’t make the session. Two days before the session, I called to let them know that I would not be able to meet. I made sure that the money that I paid up front would roll over to the next week and that they had me in the schedule for the following week. The following week, the other owner called me and told me that another customer wanted my time slot and that I skipped my last session. As I explained to her that I called to let them know that I was sick, she didn’t believe me and she was very rude and unprofessional, especially to be an owner. I also told her that this had happened before and that they are unorganized. After we got off the phone, she called me back to let me know that the person that I spoke with forgot to let them know that I called. She didn’t apologize and she acted as if it wasn’t a big deal. After my session, I spoke with the other owner to let him know what happened. He was unprofessional and loud. He wanted me to pay for a month in advance and told me that I couldn’t cancel or make-up sessions. I asked him why no one told me about this before. He then yelled at me and told me that my time slot was taken away because I cancelled my last session(hello? I was sick AND I called in ahead of time). He was so rude that he barely let me talk!

Great, great place! I’ve taken my 3 year old son to two 6 weeks sessions and it has been an amazing experience for both myself and him! Mr. Geoffrey is a modern day wizard with the kids and keeps them engaged and very well educated on music. Great environment, AMAZING instruction. I hope this place can continue to be a part of our family’s routine for years to come!

My nieces took a 10 week glee club class here and I attended their formal recital this weekend. My nieces and their classmates were very confident onstage which I attribute to good lessons and an open environment. There were older kids in a band called The Weeps that came on afterwards and I totally would have paid a cover fee to see them perform.

I love this place. My son has talent but his last violin teacher was uninspiring. Here they care about him, he gets greeted warmly, but they make him work hard. It’s a place I would definitely recommend to parents.

My 4 year old daughter and I went in the other day to inquire about music lessons for her.(She really wants to play drums!) When we entered we received what seemed like a forced/unwelcoming Hello from an Asian lady behind the counter. She continued reading her book or whatever she was doing. After a couple minutes I expected her to ask us for helper if we had any questions because God forbid I disturb her and her book. Either way, there was no interaction what so ever, and when we were leaving not even a goodbye. It’s like we weren’t even there. Very unfriendly customer service for it being dead in there. Ill take my daughter to study music elsewhere.

My family and I moved into the Long Beach area two years ago. I was looking for a place where my daughter can take piano lessons. I was referred to Jammin’ Music by several people. I’m so thankful for them because my daughter has been taking lessons since. My daughter is very quiet and shy but her instructor Nick is wonderful with her. He has a sense of humor which she loves and is very patient. My daughter and son recently completed group lessons. They both wanted to learn guitar. This was my son’s first experience learning a musical instrument so group lessons was a great way to expose him and to find out if he was really interested in learning to play guitar. They had Mr. Geoffry as an instructor. He is fun, energetic, funny, and just really great with kids! My son enjoyed it so much he is now taking private lessons with Mr. Geoffry and really enjoys it! Jammin Music has so much to offer! My daughter has even taken art class here! What’s unique and special about them is their First Fridays where students get to perform. It’s nice to see my kids and other students on stage in a fun and casual environment having a blast rocking out! I highly recommend Jammin’ Music if you are looking for a great place to learn an instrument, sing, act, or take art lessons!

My 2 yr old son attends the Little Musicmakers Class and loves it. Ever since he started this class all he does is make beats on his lap and sing the songs he remembers from class. It’s awesome when your 2 yr ols knows what a jimbay drum is! I give Mr. Geoffry 2THUMBSUP!

Jammin’ Music is a great place for music lessons, with no attitude. My kids have been coming here for almost a year and the instructors that I’ve observed are all friendly, kind, and good with kids(and adults). They are open to whatever instrument/genre you want to learn, unlike some schools that will only start kids on acoustic guitar, not electric. I went in for a few lessons myself and Geoff was great about tailoring instruction to my requests(no reading music, just some pointers). They have monthly recitals during Bixby Knolls First Fridays to give the kids a taste of performing, followed by fun jam sessions and drum circles. There are also group music classes for preschoolers and summer camps– my daughter has her eye on the rock camp. I wish I was 9 again!
