Sweet employees, customer service was friendly but food was not the greatest. Had lechon kawali that was dry and they didn’t even give the sauce for it. Diniguan was not the worst I’ve had but it wasn’t great, not much flavor. Also had lugao which was decent but kinda bland. Rice was cooked well. There are much better places to eat Filipino food, but if you are desperate for a fix and you are in the area it will do.

I was craving for Beef caldereta. I had this dish for the first time at one of my friend’s b day bash a while ago. For those of you who are not familiar with this dish, its like a filipino version of beef stew. The dish have chunk of beef, bell pepper, olive, potato and alot of good spices. So, i asked one of my Filipino co-worker and he suggested this place since it was near by. I called the place up around 6 and asked what time they were closed. Lucky for me they were open for another hour. When I got there, I was greeted by an older lady right away with a smile. The restaurant was more like a fast food place. I step up to the counter and immediately look for the Beef dish. Everything behind the counter just looks so good. But I asked the lady for the Beef Calderata only in a extra large to go box which came out to be 9 dollar something. When I got home, me and boyfriend ate that right away over rice. Its was so good. I forgot to take a picture of it . I will go there again and try their other stuff.

Best filipino food ever! I’ve had their Laing, dinuguan, chicken chicharon, Halo halo all reasonably priced for their combo plate. Food is delicious authentic filipino food. I prefer this place over pinoy Pinay in Cerritos.

After a disappointing visit to to Edna’s across the street, I was sure go head straight to Hapag Kainan to satisfy my craving. I had the pork bbq on the stick which I thought was really delicious. The pinakbet was average but the dinuguan was good. I find the food here to be much tastier, fresher and less greasy than Edna. My next visit was during breakfast time and I got myself some of the tocino, which was ok but the daing na bangus was pretty good. Overall, I will definitely be back here for more if I am in the area.

Had the 2 item combo with pork stew, beef stew and white rice. Had the lady put some beef stew gravy on the white rice to add flavor. It was $ 5.85 and you get a good amount of meat and not too many vegetable. Parking available behind the store. TV on the local Filipino station.

Straight up filipino. Went here with some friends(luckily some of them were filipino’s, so I didn’t have to just point to the foods i wanted). Looks like a family-run place which is awesome. Fast food style, like Panda Express, but they’ve got all the goods. The food: was great. I believe I had rice with pancit, stew(menudo) and a pork skewer. I think my favorite was the stew but it was all pretty solid. They have ice cream there too, which was pretty cool. PS. Get the watermelon juice, it’s da business.

A no frills filipno kitchen. i’ve been a couple times and the food has been excellent. They need to work on their presentation as some of the food looked to be drying out and skinning over along with the bars on the window, lack of AC, and the terrible neighborhood. But lets be honest, its a filipino restaurant, who cares about the rest. Food is the ONLY priority. One note, order lumpia ahead of time, they don’t have any ready on a heat lamp. A good thing.

I ended up here today for lunch as I wanted to try out another Filipino restaurant that happens to be within walking distance to two other ones. One being directly across the street. 2 item combo: Pork Adobo and Diniguan(aka Chocolate Gravy!) with rice. Only $ 5 bucks and change. Not too bad. Pork Adobo was OK. A little on the bland and dry side. Not to much so that I’d consider it bad, but enough that I put a little bit of seasoning on to add to the flavor. Diniguan was OK was well. Dumped over rice is the only way I like to eat it. I would have liked to see more chunks of pork which is how my family tends to make it but again like the Adobo, I added a little bit of seasoning to add to the flavor. Will have to go back and try it again as there are quite a bit of dishes to choose from. I’ll definitely try their Guinatan and a few other traditional Filipino dishes to see if my feelings for this place can be improved. As of this review, it’s OK.

OMG… the 10000 calories are worth it here… Two item combo with ukoy and caldreta please… It’s the point point place with all the homestyle Filipino dishes to choose from! They have a large variety like Chicken Adobo, Beef caldreta, Sinigang, Lechon Kawali, Bistek, Fried Fish, and the list goes on… Food is cooked next door and they have metal pan dishes stacked next to or over each other because they just have so much to choose from. Unlike Pinoy-Pinay in Cerritos and DJ Bibingkahan in Carson, this place is very homey and quiet where you can eat, sit, watch filipino TV and eat some halo halo or mango ice cream as dessert. Worth making an illegal U-turn in the westside LBC!

One phrase: Banana con hielo absolutely delicious. The other things offered are fine but I usually just stick to the banana con hielo. A sugar poached banana(not the dole kind but a different variety) served on shaved ice and evaporated milk. The bright orange syrup is mixed with the cold milk is nectar of the gods. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

I enjoy the basic Filipino foods especially adobo but was sorely disappointed. They only had chicken adobo and it was probably my least favorite version I’ve ever had being very mild in flavor and the bones were broken up(it tasted ok… but adobo in general is usually awesome and flavorful). The pancit(noodles) was very good and so was the bar-b-que stick(although I didn’t get a taste as the kids didn’t leave me any but as picky as they are, I imagine it had to be good). That was all I tried. Price was very low so as long as your not craving adobo, this is a good joint.

Chicharon manok, is all you have to say to my GF and she’s there. I woke early one saturday morning and the first thing to pop in my head was«tocilog»… That’s a the filipino breakfast of champions. Tocino, garlic fried rice, and eggs. So we went here to Hapag Kainan… Now, we went there breakfast, and as soon as we walked in she saw the chicharon manok. So after breakfast we walked out with a bag. The food here is real good too. I went for lunch one time by myself and saw the food was still looking fresh. Being a point point style restaurant the food doesn’t look like it’s been sitting around in it’s grease.

This is one of two Filipino restaurants on Santa Fe Avenue. They’re directly across the street from each other. The food is served cafeteria/buffet style(meaning they cook the food in batches and then leave it in food warming containers all day). You look through the glass and pick what you want for your one or two item combo. I went there to get Adobo chicken and they didn’t have Adobo chicken, so I left. I’m not super pressed to go back, as restaurants shouldn’t run out of chicken(it keeps too well, so there’s no reason not to keep lots of inventory). I had the same experience on the same day across the street at Edna’s.

I usually hate filipino food cause everything is greasy and fried. With my significant other being filipino, i get stuck with eating filipino food. But this is the only place where i like the food. The sisig is sooo good, and its more meat than fat and very tasty. The food is always fresh and a good variety of things to choose from. The only thing is they close early so call ahead!

I am not a fan of turo-turo Filipino restuarants. The majority of them serve fatty, oily, barely edible food. I only visit turo-turo restaurants if I’m too lazy to cook and I usually end up regretting my laziness. That being said, I was skeptical when I entered Hapag Kainan. The restaurant is located on the corner of Santa Fe and Willow in Long Beach. Parking is streetside curb parking. First of all, the food looks fresh. They do not look like they were sitting under heat lamps all day or re-heated from the day before. My mother was from the Bicol region so I often judge a Filipino restaurant by their laing(a spicy dish of taro leaves cooked with shrimp and/or pork and simmered in coconut milk and shrimp paste). I asked the owner about their laing — if it was made with dried or fresh leaves. The owner guaranteed me that their laing was authentic since she is Bicolano. Hmmmm… we’ll see about that. My jaw dropped after the first bite — yummy, delicious, authentic. They used a generous amount of coconut milk and had the right amount of spice. Additionally, they used both shrimp and pork. I then had a taste of their dinuguan(blood stew with pork). Another dish that other turo-turo restaurants miserably fail at. Once again, I was surprised at how fresh and home-made the dish tasted. Another delicious, authentic dish. Best of all, they did not have huge chunks of fat floating in the stew. All of the food served at Hapag Kainan tastes like a meal my mom would make. My favorite dishes are paksiw na lechon, laing, dinuguan, kare-kare, mechado, and bistek. The melon juice is also nice here, not too sugary. I visit Hapag Kainan about 2 — 3 times a week. LIke the other Unilocaler, my only complaint are the hours. They close by 7:30pm on weeknights and even earlier during the weekends.

if you’re looking for the best kare-kare and chicharong bulaklak in Long Beach, then head to Hapag Kainan. They offer a wide variety of Filipino food, such as: Laing, pork bbq skewer, sinigang, fried galunggong, lechon-kawali, pork and chicken adobo, bistek(beef steak0, sisig, beef caldereta, Filipino menudo, fish ginataan, nillagang baka, pansit, etc. to name a few. I go to Hapag for their samalamig na sago and melon juice aside from the ones I mentioned above. My daughter loves their ice cream especially Halo-halo and ube flavored ones. You can dine-in and watch TFC or grab your food to go. Hmmm. SARAP!
