Love love this market! They have the best chorizo in town!
I’ve been coming here for the past 6 years and they always have the freshest meat. I’ve tried buying meet for different markets but always end up coming back here.

Great neighborhood market with a good butcher case. It’s also great for staple produce (carrots, celery, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, etc.). It ain’t fancy but it’s convenient if you live close especially if you don’t want to lose your parking spot to run out to go shopping. Worst thing if you’re not from the neighborhood is there is no parking lot, it’s all street parking in a neighborhood known for no parking. Someone said it was cash only and they’re wrong, they accept debit cards for sure.

The owner is a very nice man… but the woman that works there has no clue what customer service really is.
Abrasive attitude always… She never wants to help with any customer questions… and everytime I am trying to check out, she is always on the phone gossiping with her friends.
Even though I live close by, I would rather walk down to 7th Street to pay a little extra for better customer service. Plus for some reason, tax is 10% in that store. Interesting since the city of Long Beach is still 8%, last time I checked. I guess the tax rate is dependent on whether she has a good attitude or not.
Honestly I feel bad for the owner, like I said.. he is very nice man.
The clerk, on the other hand, just an ignorant woman who is not happy working at this store. Her life is her punishment. .
Do not go here unless you are ready to deal with an indecorous attitude.

We are so blessed to have El Mercado walking, crawling, walking, crawling distance from our house. Ask them, we’re always forgetting something while cooking (or drinking) and whatever we need is probably going to be there. ANYTHING!!! More than just food, more than just a meat market, but great for that household stuff that should be in the junk drawer when you need it. Don’t worry, it’s on 4th/​Orange at El Mercado.
Excellent meat market, especially for chicken, boneless, skinless, legs, thighs, wings breasts, whole, whole cut to order. The premaded pork steaks, pollo asada and carne asada the best to bbq when coming home from the Red or V Room, because the meat counter is right next to the BBQ charcoal.
Yeah, it won’t be as cheap as the chain stores, but it’s our 4th Street Neighborhood El Mercado that we don’t have to drive to. Enjoy!
BTW, Dexter fans should recognize from earlier this season.

Meat market appears to be sketch but we’ve tried various meats many times and have yet to get sick!
The carne asada is pricier than other mercados but its easy and on the corner. The chicken fajitas are definitely the best buy at the meat counter and are oh so good!
Other than the meat, groceries are expensive but its convenient!
Oh and cash only kinda sucks but thats life sometimes.

This is a very good small market for the neighborhood I live in. I buy all my carne asada and chicken here. Make sure you ask for it pre-​marinated and grill it within 48 hours. I buy all my groceries and cigarettes at this place and I end up paying not that much more than if I went to Vons or Fresh and Easy.

I have tried their pork ribs, carne asada and marinated chicken now and all are great and way cheaper (and better IMO) than Ralphs. The butcher (?) is very nice and very willing work with you on cutting/​preparing etc.

This is a good place to buy fresh meats and produce if you don’t want to drive to Ralph’s and loose a parking spot. The fresh chicken breasts are actually the best I have purchased anywhere: good flavor, cheaper and larger than the grocery chains. The produce is fresh and inexpensive as well. I would not shop here for general grocery items though; they never seem to have what I am looking for.
