Boeing Long Beach Service Center

This is a vast facility with huge hangar capable of servicing multiple aircrafts. I was here for the 787 Dreamliner World Tour. We waited 10 minutes to get past security. They subcontracted the security guards from a security company, who checked our name list and each person’s ID. Once we were in, we were escorted to the tarmac where the 787 was parked. To our delight, the 787 was parked right in front of a C17 aircraft.
The 787 tour was a delight, as we were able to get inside the plane with production-​ready interiors. We were able to spend about 20 minutes inside the cabin and talked Boeing engineers and the pilot. It was a remarkable, rare experience to get up close and personal with the 787 interiors and the people who had a part in the design and manufacturing of these planes.
The tour ended with a group photo of my colleagues and I on the steps leading up to the aft door of the 787 as well as another in front of the airplane. A Boeing employee offered to take the pictures for us and she was tremendously cordial and helpful.
Truly a remarkable experience!
