I was like a kid in a candy store when I first found this place. I used to intern at a place across the street from it. One day, I wondered in and pretty much spent $ 20 on random stuff I didn’t know I needed. It’s 98cents plus but the prices are still pretty reasonable. It was 98cents when I found it in 2006 and some of the items I bought back then are still 98cents now. I mostly buy headbands, hair accessories, and earrings. They also sell shoes, the kind you find in swap meets. I’ve yet to find my size though. And then there’s the cute school supplies. How can anyone resist those? One can never have too many colored pens, pencils, and post-it notes.

Who woulda thought that a 98 cent store could bring back child hood memories! This store has been here since I moved to Long Beach back in the mid 90s. The owners are really nice. I remember when we lived near by and would walk to this store. Whenever we were short on change they would say it was fine. Just pay them back the next time. Great people! Have you ever been to a dollar store and there wasn’t shit on the shelves and the one thing that they did have was way over priced? Yea. Not this spot. Fully stocked all the time. So just to let you know the random stuff I bought on my last visit… a handful of butter knives(who likes washing dishes all the time because you don’t have extras), sink strainer, and a yard sale sign for ess than $ 5. Booyah!

This is my FAVORITE dollar store!!! Whoops, excuse me— I mean $ 0.98 store! You save yourself two smackin’ pennies! Wooo! I’ve been coming here ever since I was in Elementary School, and I’m a college graduate now! This place has been around for so long, if you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re seriously missing out! This place has some of THEBEST items for sale and you can even get your Hello Kitty goods here for a discounted price. I got a HK watch here for $ 25 compared to $ 60 at the regular Sanrio Store. They have really cute $ 5 sunglasses, Forever21-like jewelry(if you’re lucky, there are some days when the real F21 jewelry is in stock!), and they even carry NYX cosmetics and Red Cherry lashes! This is my go-to store for false eyelashes and nail polish. When I still had my nose piercing in my high-school/college days, I would come here everyday because my nose ring would always fall out(or I would lose it) and the owner(Lee) offered to sell me their whole stock of nose rings and claims that I was the only one who ever bought them. LOL. Aside from the girly goods, this place is super affordable for school supplies, and they use good quality brands(I’ve been blessed to be supplied by them in school for probably the last 15 years, lol)! Oh and they sell Mexican candies here in the bulk size for no more than $ 5! This is a Korean family owned store and the owners are really sweet and friendly! My mom and I come here at least once a week! I’m over-zealous, head over heels for this place— They’re just that amazing!

Love this place I used to go here and shop all the time. Mostly for snacks I went in to buy some chips and noticed they also sell Nyx cosmetics at the counter. It’s not a huge selection but it will do for now.

I effing LOVE this place! Granted, I have found some of the same items @ the 99 cent store marked up at this location, but I’ll live since there are never any lines at BK. They have everything you can think of! I snagged myself one of those scarves everyone and their mom had months ago(you know which ones I’m talking about– the houndstooth ones that remind everyone of the middle east) for $ 6. I saw the same scarf at the mall for almost $ 20. I know I’m frugal, I have no shame. That’s why I never, ever pay more than $ 10 for a pair of sunglasses. This is due to me always losing or breaking them, so I won’t pay any more than 10. Lucky me– they always carry trendy shades there for $ 5. I have my Kanyes, my «ray bans» and even my Nicole Richie bug eye sunglasses… They have what I refer to as «Chinatown joo-ree» for like 2 bucks, and with the right clothing no one would know that you’re cheap(…and easy?). I love love love this place and it’s become a staple in my Sunday funday shopping adventure.

This is my favorite dollar store. 99 Cents Only is so ghetto, but this one… okay, it’s not luxe and it’s smaller than 99CO, but it’s always neat and well stocked, and they have better stuff, too. Plus it’s only a couple of blocks away from home. My usual picks: ketchup, Post It notes, taco seasoning, cotton rounds, Asian coconut cookies. All 98 cents each.

So… what’s so special about this 98 cent store? Julia and Lee, the owners are da bomb! I stepped into this store 5 years ago and saw some square glass jars. I asked the owner if he could get me about 100 of them. He looked skeptical. Two days later, I get this call from a thick Korean accent. I had forgotten and I told him that he had the wrong number. He said.“Wrong number shit, you ask for 100 jars, I get 100 jars. You come and buy.” I jumped my ass out of the bed and got my shit. We’ve been doing business ever since. If I see something that I can paint on and re-sell, Lee will get them for me in the quantity I want. Vases, jars, doormats, purses, CD carrier, tabletop easels… I could go on for days. They keep me creative and in business. We exchange bomb Christmas gifts every year. Julia had no clue that I watch KBS-LA, a Korean TV station. Funny how the term«Mama’s boy» is a bonding element for women of every nationality.(The Korean soaps are quick and scandalous… and sub-titled, unlike the Latin ones which are kind of hard to follow sometimes, but I’m getting better at those too). At any rate, like most 98⁄99 cent stores, the prices, well… around 98 cents for most items though they do carry other inexpensive stuff that you an get while here without having to make a second trip, like general food items. If you drop in, tell ‘em Cidne sent ya!
