Fatima’s African Hair Braiding

First I was texting back and forth with one lady about price and what I wanted, I get to the shop it’s a different lady that has no clue what I want. Any shop in Chicago if I ask for individual tree braids or micro tree braids they know what I want. This shop has apparently renamed the style something else and get confused when you call it the name everyone else knows it by. So we finally get the style figured out (after I showed her a youtube video) and after she gets started on my hair they decide that its going to be a lot of work and I have a lot of hair and they add another $ 50 to the price. I tried asking for a price range but the lady was confident 200 was the price when we were texting back and forth then they want to treat me like I’m going to cheat them $ 50 and wanted me to go outside with an unfinished head to get more money… This shop charges more than Chicago shops btw I will go back to making the drive I wont go back here. Instead of having two people working on my hair they had pregnant women that needed breaks so it took 11 hours! Getting your hair pulled, babies running around screaming, and the women talking about you in French (which I understand), and complaining in English saying I just want this to be over for 11 hours… I’ll pass. And on top of all that one lady got nail glue directly in my eye and I had to go to the bathroom and flush my eye with water for 20 minutes. The only positive is I love my hair even though it took some coaching and the style is called a different name at this shop they still did a good job.
Also I overheard the owner saying that she gets people in the door with a lower price then tell them it’s a higher price when they get there. They’re taking advantage of there not being a lot of shops in the suburbs. Drive to Chicago they compete for your business because they know you have more options!

I’ve been bringing my 14 yr old daughter here for several months now. She’s had both box and crochet braids. They work fast and the styles last a long time considering how thick my daughter’s hair is. Fatima is always willing to work with your schedule and makes suggestions on different types of styles and hair to use. Worth every penny and the 40 min drive.

The service was horrible! The atmosphere was nasty and dusty! Not to mention that the owner Fatima spent more time on the phone trying to rectify problems with past unhappy clients. (she answers all her calls on speakerphone) Loud african music playing & the employees chattering away in their native language. A slightly overweight client had left after having her hair braided… the owner & her employees laughed and gossiped about her weight. I found this to be not only disgusting but also unprofessional! I got my hair braided 6 weeks ago and already it needs to be redone! I have witnessed various people calling in and threatening Fatima because of the poor job that was done to their hair! I met her the day before I got my hair done to get an estimate… she was 45mins late. (Says she lost her car keys) The following day I showed up to get my hair done the price increased by $ 40.00 (even though she examined my hair and gave me a set price)! If you want good customer service in a professional and relaxing atmosphere… Don’t go here!!! Its just not worth it on any level!

This place is good for any type of braiding style. I went in a few months ago for braids. There are usually several women in there. On a good day, two women will braid your hair. I had small individual braids with kankelon hair. I initially thought I would prefer human hair but decided to trust their recommendation. The prices include the hair and there are several colors to choose from. I chose a wavy style which curls once the hair is braided and dipped in hot water. They finished it with adding mousse.
The hours are pretty flexible and Fatima is there at least 6 days a week.
I wore my braids for seven weeks and returned to get the perimeter redone. I believe that was four rows. The pricing depends on your hair and size of the braids. That is the hard part if you are price shopping. But, I have witnessed new customers come in and say «this is all I have» and they receive service.

Prices are $ 180 and up. Smaller braids will take anywhere from 8 – 12 hours.

Went to Fatima’s for box braids (the style is rapidly coming back) and she did great! I was afraid I would be sitting there from 8 – 12. Fatima had me out the door by 5!!! I was impressed. Not only do my braids look great I feel like they will last me!
