This appears to be in the only business in the bustling metropolis of Loma Mar, CA(population 167) and is conveniently located a mere 5 minutes from Memorial Park, where we were camping for two nights. The park staff didn’t tell us it was here. They pointed to the park store instead. But the park store doesn’t sell beer, and we noticed we were really low at around 4 pm on the second night. I had recalled from previous research that there was some kind of store to the west, but it had never been reviewed by anyone(on any site, not even Google). We decided it was time to jump in the car and find out what was up. Loma Mar Store is the very model of a small, low-key mountain town store, except even smaller and more low-key. It’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, being attached to what appears to be a residence. A large, barky dog greeted us outside(with tail wagging), and 5 medium-sized ones greeted us inside. We made a beeline for the small cooler section and hit Pay Dirt — An excellent beer selection! We snatched a six of Stone IPA(yum), plus some Sierra for good measure. Prices were highish, as expected, but not outrageous. The somewhat ornery proprietor then appeared and rang us up, and we made our way out the door as we examined the wares — a limited supply of groceries, wine and propane. Despite the name, we saw no sign of a restaurant. Local color absorbed, we took our prizes back to the campsite for cocktail hour.
