I love Mexican food. I have a hand full of places I would put on my recommend list, this is one of them. The service is great. The food is top notch, and it’s always crowed. If you go to a restaurant that’s not crowed, it probably not that good. Stop in and give it a try.

My mother and I ate here on the way back from a Panthers game. We were tired and hungry. We debated waiting until we got closer to home to eat but coming through Locust we decided to find a place. We decided on El Vaquero because we were craving Mexican.
I understand the difference between authentic Mexican and the food that a lot of «Mexican» restaurants serve. This was not authentic but it was some of the best non-​authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had. I got the ACP simply because its a standard dish at most Mexican restaurants and I didn’t want to take a chance getting something I didn’t like. The chicken was cooked very well and the rice had to have been the best I have ever had at a restaurant like this. We ordered cheese dip and got a good amount.
The waiters were average but overall very nice. Our food arrived in average amount of time and the waiters did a decent job of refilling our drinks.
I will definitely keep this place in mind if I am every going through Locust again.

I’ve always had a good experience. Enjoy the top shelf margaritas as well.

We have been to this restaurant twice and two out of two times we have been charged double. Same waitress each time. The food here is good and though we have three Mexican restaurants in our own town, we prefer the food here. When confronted about the bill the man at the front stated that the waitress was new. Um really? It has been more than a month between visits. Buyer beware! Check your receipts. I have the receipts for the second time that it happened.

Great experience, good food, awesome unlimited salsa. The staff was wonderful and at a good price.

I recently moved to the area and was looking for a good local Mexican restaurant and was pleased to find one in Locust, NC. I was skeptical because of the initial impressions that I had upon walking into the restaurant. Those initial worries went away almost immediately. The wait staff is awesome and very friendly. The food comes fast and it tastes delicious. It is top 2 best Mexican food I’ve ever had.
The prices are awesome. I spend almost double at other Mexican places like Monterrey, so I was pleasantly surprised when the food was better AND better prices then other restaurants. On Friday & Saturday nights, there can be a wait and since the entry way is fairly small it can bet kind of crowded. Also, it is crowded on Sundays after church but never too long of a wait.
I try to come here at least once a week. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Mexican food.

So delicious! I had the tamale & a taco combo. Great food, good price, and the margaritas were delicious to boot. My companions had a range of dishes from monster burrito to the 5 enchilada sampler and all were impressed!

This area really lacks a lot of good restaurant choices and usually now when we’re out this way and hungry, we drive home instead but today we decided (based on Unilocal reviews) to give this place a shot.
What a fabulous idea! Ok, coming in from outside, you’re initially disappointed– expecting the scent of yummy food cooking, the entryway has simply a clean, almost medicinal scent — which while not bad, often implies food that isn’t freshly prepared, but again, the area lacks other choices so…
Décor, again, it’s a miss. Certainly clean, but very plain and not very reminiscent of a Mexican restaurant at all. However, what you’re there for is the food and.
My God it’s good. We started with queso fundido (a lil greasy, but yum!!). Hubby had the lunch Carnitas, I had the beef Chiliquilas… Seriously the best Mexican food we’ve had (and we do Mexican restaurants a LOT!!). Too much to eat (and we never take leftovers home!) but this time. I’d have been mad at myself later for not taking these with us, so I’m looking forward to leftovers for dinner later. The Mexican rice was pretty bland, even for Mexican rice, so for the décor and the side not worth eating, I gave it a 4 instead of 5, but the food was fabulous and the service equally wonderful. We’ll definitely be back every time we’re in the area (which is probably 2−3x a month.). Not that we have many choices in this area, but even if we did, this would still be at or very near the top of the list. Outstanding!

We ate there Tuesday night, and received our drinks and food super fast, the special burrito is my favorite while my husband likes the chimichanga… the salsa is never exactly the same, but always delicious!!! I highly reccomend this place even when they’re busy, they’re worth the wait :)

I might be greedy, but I can honestly say this is the best Mexican food I have ever had! It’s in a small town called Locust, NC so many people could miss the place but it’s a great place to go to if you really want some good authentic Mexican food.
I use to just get the one beef and one chicken enchiladas with rice and beans all the time, but recently I decided it was time to branch off, and now I am stuck on any meal with their soft flour tortillas! They are so delicious! I could go on and on about how good their food is, but you are just going to have to go see for yourself.
Their service is really good when it isn’t packed. If it is crowded make sure you have time to wait and wait. My family and I have yet to eat inside but we usually get it to go and they have it ready about 15−20mins after we have called it in.

Started off good, but after 3 – 4 trips we haven’t been back. The wait staff is frazzled even when they are not swamped. You never get 1 waiter you get the whole staff which may sound like a good thing but is only confusing and annoying. The food is good not great. The booths are very unstable allowing your ever move to be felt by the person behind you and vise versa. The second time we went we had our 1 yo with us and were told their were no high chairs which was very inconvenient, not detrimental and a deal breaker at the time but it certainly helps set the mood for the evening.
I would not recommend in any way and we will choose to continue to drive out of the way to visit La Unica in Indian Trail for our Mexican cuisine fix.

Food was delicious and the prices were great. Wait staff very friendly; especially Nataly. Our family is looking forward to returning.

Nicest people– great food– good prices. We got there late– and it was my son’s 6^th Birthday. Even with the kitchen closed later on they made him a dessert and sang for him. SUPER NICE folks

Great Carnitas!

I love this place! Been twice. Service and food always top notch. My favorite is the carnitas. I have loved everything so far. Must come here!!!

We got the $ 4.99 lunch specials.
Burrito & taco, Taco & enchilada & #9 special. And they were all very generous and excellent. The chips were warm & the salsa was good. Great service. Fast and friendly! Will go back!

Excellent food, fast and reasonably priced! I love the $ 6.99 menu and the small margarita pitcher is big enough to share with four people!!!

This place has only been open a few months but the owners are veterans in the business. The food was good and the salsa tasted better than most we’ve had. In fact, I ended my meal with chips and salsa instead of dessert.
The atmosphere is casual and the décor is very attractive. The menu is basic but has everything I would expect at a Mexican restaurant. The vegetarian options are the usual cheese, spinach, or veggies in different forms. This will probably become our «go to» for Mexican food.
