So, I have a brand new, beautiful baby nephew. So being the good Auntie I am, I go online to purchase a playard to keep at my house for when the baby visits. I find a great one on clearance at the Livonia Sears store. Reserve it online for pickup in store. Immediately my hubby and I drive to the store only to be told that the item is out of stock! The sales clerk informed me that the one online was referring to the display model and that my order couldn’t be filled. Since I’m a sceptic, I go look for myself and low and behold its right on the shelf! What in the world were they looking for? It was three people working in the department and we were the only customers… smh! Two stars for getting a $ 120 playard on clearance for $ 42. Stars lost for broken order online pickup in store system and poor customer service.

Love this Sears store they have clothes that fit that I like and they have a large selection of clothes and plus sizes just for me. The Sears at twelve oaks has nothing what this store has.

This is the first Sears I’ve visited in years that didn’t give me the heebie-jeebies. It’s a clean, bright store with organized stock and plenty of employees available to help. I stopped in to pick up an internet order. It was easy: swipe my credit card on the kiosk, a friendly employee said he’d be back in a moment, then I got my item and went on my way. I’m not usually in the area, but this Sears appears much better than Lincoln Park and Dearborn from what I saw.

This is definitely and older style department store and some of the age shows. This Sears was once the largest mall-based Sears in Michigan(source: ) but now it is a relic next to the newer Wal Mart, Kohls and outlot stores that have been redeveloped on the site of the former Livonia Mall. The store is merchandised just like any other Sears, with Land’s End merchandise getting prime placement and the men’s clothing strategically placed next to the tools and lawn equipment. The childrens and housewares are upstairs and accessible by elevator or escalator. On the surface, this looks like a normal Sears, but if you look a little closer, you can see a significant lack of maintenance. For example, the home gym equipment is displayed on a linoleum tile floor meant to look like wood, but the tiles are popping up and really should be replaced. The mirrored wall in the same athletics department is also coming apart, as is the signage and other small things that you probably would not notice at first. The bathrooms are clean, but some fixtures appear to be from the original date of construction in 1962. The sales in this store are standard throughout the year, but since it appears to be a lower volume store, the end of the season sales can be quite decent. There are often a nice variety of items being sold at the end of the season and the markdowns are very good if you catch them at the right time. Overall, this is a Sears you go to because you need something from Sears. not for ambiance or window shopping. That’s what Sears is for, right? If that is what you will be using this particular store for, you will find that it is a decent, run of the mill store with a full line of merchandise. I would be pretty upset if they closed, so I guess that says something :)
