Welsh Cabin is excellent for bitter nights and«cabin» fever. The food is always great and we love Matt who serves us, sometimes! Great wing night, excellent local beers!

It ain’t health food, but if that’s what you’re looking for, go elsewhere. For comfort food, it’s sublime. Tucked away amid farmland and woods, it’s every city person’s fantasy of a rustic joint; log cabin, wood stove, good music, friendly people and a decent bar. The food is reliable: burgers, bbq and an abundance of delicious fried things. In the winter, it’s a magnet for snowmobilers through the night. I’ve had a weekend place in the area for 15 years, and over all those years, through an owner or two, it has never disappointed. Get directions before you go, it is truly off the beaten path!

I really enjoy this little gem tucked in the woods in Jeffersonville. It a good hearty menu and the food is very good. It is cash only and closed on Mondays but if you are in the hood it is worth trying to find it. Ask the bartender to stick a dollar on the ceiling — it’s a neat trick

We were a party of nine and arrived with tables available so it was nice we didn’t have to wait for that. The service was another story. It took forever just to get drinks and to order food. At one point I had to get up twice to walk to the bar to get refills on drinks. Apparently they were understaffed for the amount of people that were there. The food was good so that is why it got the three stars.

Steak, twice baked potato, shrimp and grilled veggies. TODIEFOR!!! Little cabin in the middle of nowhere… but so worth it. Staff was super friendly! Full service bar, intimate tables, and sports playing on the TVs. Stop in, you will not be disappointed! And they have diet coke.

Welsh Cabin — Or, «Are We In Bree?» Looking for a place to have a nice New Years Day lunch with Father Csete, our pastor, I remembered Ellen Neumann mentioning the Welsh Cabin several times and how yummy the food was, so we decided that we would trek out to it today and check it out. This is a teeny place out in the middle of nowhere, and I don’t think I’d have it any other way. It is truly a cabin, logs, wood stove and all, and about twice, maybe thrice the size of the Ingalls cabin on Little House on the Prairie. Very cozy and warm both in ambiance and décor as well as temperament. And the odors which emanate from the kitchen out to the parking lot are outrageously good immediately bringing to mind good, hearty American Fare waiting inside. You walk in and there is a nice bar, which features American/Local beers to the left with the dining area neatly laid out, mid and right parts of the floor. Visually the place is brimming with history, memorabilia, a sense of «local,» and some very interesting traditions: Just look up! We were immediately made to feel at home by the bartender/host…unfortunately I did not get his name, but a very nice guy. We sat ourselves at a table near the warming wood burning stove and our host came over with menus and to offer us something to drink. I began to feel as if we were at the Prancing Pony in Bree! The menu is ample and discernibly American. Pilar opted for a Jalapeño Cheddar Burger plate while Father Csete and I decided to try the Steak & Shrimp plates. I also ordered a salad on the side. Everything was totally yummy and cooked exactly the way we ordered. The burger was quite large and juicy. The shrimp were very, very yummy and NOT a mass of breading with an anemic shrimp tucked miserably inside, rather they were nice thick and meaty shrimp with just the right amount of crunchy coating. The steaks… WOW!!! These were masterpieces of yumminess. In almost all restaurants where I have ordered steak, I indubitably find myself leaving a small to large pile of yucky fat rinds at the edge of the plate when we have finished dining. It is unsightly but it is even grosser to actually bite into one of them. The steak at the Welsh Cabin did not have any nasty fat rind at all. It was all meat, and very tender, juicy meat! Kudos to the chef! The only things left on our plates were a few forlorn looking shrimp tails. All in All, this was an excellent dining experience all around and we left quite content. This place is TRULY out in the middle of nowhere, but we will most certainly be back! Went back again. Don’t know what happened to that Irish cook, but I do know that the food is back to not being so great. Steak was OK. I’ve had better.

I’m thrilled that Unilocal and fellow viewers led me here. We were looking for something other than a diner or overpriced Inn restaurant and found Welsh Cabin. It’s an authentic upstate cabin with great food, layed back atmosphere and friendly service.

I heard about this place from a city friend, he said it was OK but they are cash only, which is fine with me. I took the family there for the first time a few weeks ago and everyone, even my finicky son, loved it! Its a great atmosphere, antlers and mounted fish on the walls, my kind of place! The place fills up quick around dinner time and appears to have a happy, loyal following of customers. The food was great, the people nice and we decided it will be a do-over dinner spot. Its not easy to find a decent eatery up there, and this place is far better than decent.

I have been coming to this Cabin for the past twenty years through its various incarnations(Conroy’s, Scullion’s) and I think this one is the best yet. This is a real road side tavern in the hills above Callicoon Center, NY. It had a shaky start a few years ago when it was bought from Mr Scullion(who ran a great place himself) but with the a new cook and a new attitude it is a delight to eat supper there again. I usually meet friends there at about 6:45pm on Saturday nights. I am a New York City weekender and I would rather have toast and oatmeal than eat bad restaurant food and this place has food as good as you would want it. The other restaurants in the this region are either bad, pretentious or both. The Cabin is a warm and friendly place usually full of people drinking at the bar and eating at the tables scattered around the wood stove. I have never seen unhappy people there. It is kind of like a rural, cow country«Cheers». The young owner is solicitous in the good sense and the wait staff(one woman) is always real friendly, if sometimes overworked. This is cow country so the beef is the thing. The steaks and burgers are great. The fried chicken is really good. Good soups and the house salad is very good. Usually everything on the menu is good. Yuengling on tap with a great burger, fries and a good salad. Ah, Heaven. I love this place and eat here often and I am never really disappointed(most restaurants disappoint me).
