We had such a great time at Apple Pond! I called the farm ahead of time to book a group tour for about about 8 adults and children, plus a dog. The owners of the farm introduced us to all of their animals, including letting us milk one of their goats and feed the chickens. The kids had no idea they were actually«working»! Then we walked through some of their vegetable beds, a homemade greenhouse and their solar powered system, all the while hearing about what farming techniques they use. The couple running the farm came from Brooklyn a few decades ago but their enthusiasm for what they do is still incredibly inspiring. Go visit, you won’t regret it!

This farm is open to the public on regular occasions, such as the summertime«Farmstock» tours, and I highly recommend that people stop by. I’m not very big on Farmstock itself, as I think that most of the farms participating in that program don’t really know what to do with visitors other than taking their money, but Apple Pond is very much the exception. What makes this different from the usual«farm open house» is that the people running Apple Pond know their stuff, and you come away with an appreciation not just of farm life but new techniques, especially renewable energy. The staff is young, multinational, and very helpful and well-informed. The couple who own Apple Pond are active in local community affairs and very warm and welcoming. I’d particularly recommend this for families with kids.
