Over priced, poor seating so-so food. Just spent $ 30 for six franks, an order of onion rings and three small sodas. What every you do DON’T get the onion rings! I love Hoffman hot dogs and coneys but do yourself a favor, go to the store and buy the Hoffman’s hot dogs and coneys. They’re just as good if not better cooked at home. There is very little seating inside with picnic tables outside under a very warm tarp.

I have personally been coming here for well over 50 years. It’s expanded a bit, and I understand this is its second location, but the enduring charm of this place, is it hasn’t grown into a huge conglomerate. It has stayed unassuming, and quaint. Basically a hot dog stand, the food is top notch, and offers«Coneys»(pronounced coonies by locals), which are white hot dogs. There is always a line to get in, but don’t worry, it moves. This is a unique place, truly not to be missed.

I absolutely love visiting these types of landmark establishments. Can’t believe this place has been around as long as it has been and glad to see people from all over still come to this joint. Super happy I finally made it here! So as I stare at the menu I really could not just pick one item so I choose the mixed double(hot dog and coney), seadog and kielbasa. The hot dog, coney and kielbasa were super tasty. My favorite would have to be the kielbasa… had the perfect crunch in every bite. As for the seadog it was ok. Nothing to rave about. If you are in the area, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you do not make at least one visit to try this place out.

I’ve pulled off at the Liverpool Exit on the NYS Thruway many a time for one of the best hot dog joints that you will find anywhere. You can’t beat the nostalgia of Heid’s.They’ve been around for 99 years! The star of the show is the Hofmann natural casing hot dog, which is made in Syracuse and happens to be my favorite! I love seeing the busy operation. The staff is friendly, but they’re all business behind the counter, serving hundreds(sometimes thousands) of people every day. The aroma of the large flat top grill full of nothing but hot dogs simply can’t be beat. I love the outdoor seating in the warmer months, but Heid’s has brightened many cold Syracuse winter days for me because they have indoor seating throughout the year. I «frankly» recommend that you try Heid’s of Liverpool!

Good hotdogs on a New England style roll. This place has 2 type of dogs: Franks(the pink dogs) and the Coney dogs(the white dogs). The hotdogs were made very well on a cook top that gave them very crispy snaps when you bit into the dogs — the perfect noise! On this visit, I got the special which included 2 dogs(I got one of each), medium fries, and a medium drink. To top off the Coney dog, I added the Texas Hots topping: spicy mustard, onions, and chili. All of which were great additions! The place also has side condiments for free, including ketchup, their in-house spicy mustard, chopped onions, a sweet-and-spicy red pepper relish, and 2 other types of relishes. The red pepper relish was fantastic and I would easily go for a bare dog with just that topping. The fries were standard, and you can get them with cheese which looked quite tempting. They were definitely made to order as well, since they were still hot from the fryer when they were handed to me. Overall, good place to get a hot dog, albeit, it is a bit expensive for a dog. My meal of the 2 dogs, one with Texas Hots, medium fries and a drink were over $ 10. There are cheaper places, but this one is good if you’re in the area and are craving a solid hot dog!

What’s not to like here if you are looking for a hot dog? Lines are too long at times, but it moves fast. Service is always good, and quick. Food follows not too long after you order. Place has booths and tables inside and outside. Conies, fries and onion rings is my to go order. Never wrong! If you are in Syracuse or passing by and looking to kill a hot dog craving, stop by. You were not be disappointed. Always good to be back!

Heid’s is a Syracuse institution that everyone must try if they possess even a mild affinity for a good hot dog. I didn’t really understand the hype of this seemingly run of the mill, 50s-style hot dog joint until my partner brought me here. I’ve never had a bad meal here… And with beer on draft, it’s perfect for lunch, dinner, or a quick snack on the way home from the park. They do a small-scale weekly drive-in in the summers which I think is great. When I move away from here, Heid’s will certainly be on the list of places I miss most in CNY.

Heid’s is a Central New York landmark that’s been around since 1917, one of the oldest drive-ins anywhere. A standby for hot dogs, sausages & other quick-serve fare in nostalgic digs & adjacent ice cream shop, Heid’s Hot Dog has a uniquely delectable flavor that only a Heid’s visitor can describe. Some customers feel it’s the way they’re grilled; others are convinced it’s the formulation of the product itself that lends Heid’s hot dogs an aroma and taste that — despite the efforts of others — simply can’t be duplicated. As a CNY local, I can’t count the number of times I’ve been to Heid’s and it’s always a pleasant experience. Good, affordable food, enjoyable atmosphere especially in the summer when you can go across the way to their Sweet Treats ice cream shop, and pleasant, nice employees. What more can be said about Heids that hasn’t already been said? It’s a CNY staple, especially during the summer. There’s just something about their food. Sure, you can buy everything they have at the grocery store and make it yourself, but a hot dog, side of fries, and a Byrne Dairy chocolate milk(my wife’s favorite combination) just tastes different — better — from Heid’s.

Heid’s is definitely an icon, having history all the way back to 1917 starting out as just a stand on the street. However, I don’t think that their food has gotten any better(not saying that it’s bad). With all the hype around it, and being featured on the Travel Channel with positive reviews, I had expected a lot more. Instead, it tastes exactly how it started out — as a generic stand on the street. I don’t think this is a restaurant that I would PLAN to come to, but it could definitely be a nice place to stop by when you DON’T have plans to get food anywhere, and just want something to eat. Afterwards, take a stroll by Onondaga Lake!(probably during summer).

This is a New York sweet spot! It reminds me of the Varsity in Atlanta, GA on a much smaller scale. This place has all locally made sausages and dogs. The hot dogs were delicious and everything fresh. They serve them on New England style rolls. My favorite was the Texas Frank. It had chili, spicy brown mustard and onions. I want to come back in 2 years… It will be their 100 year anniversary.

I know this is hard to believe but these are the best hot dogs ever. They come in a square bun and they have coneys and snappy dogs. They are usually packed but the line moves fast. When my husband first took me here I thought a hot dog big deal. Wow was I wrong. Every time I get to this area I cannot wait to go here. You can buy them online and have them shipped to you. Be sure to buy their special mustard it’s a must have. They are the best hot dogs ever.

They have good hot dogs. nice off street picnic tables to sit and have your hot dog. the only reason for 3 star is i think it’s pricey for what you get. i didn’t find anything special about their hot dogs. they are good no doubt about it, but its what that you can get from a hotdog cart much cheaper. They have really good meat sauce. make sure you’re trying their chili dog. or loaded fries.

Great stop for a quick lunch. A local legend that serves up hoffmans franks and coneys. Super easy place to get lunch when at work. Located at the main intersection of Liverpool in a unique building across from Wegmans landing. What’s not to love

You can’t find a better dog in the area! I’m a fan of the combo with one frank and one coney. I always am sure to add the pepper relish, mustard and onion. These condiments really compliment the dog and should work for most palates since there is a mix of sweet(relish) and spicy(mustard). The onions add a little extra flavor. The Texas chili dog is mediocre. The chili is bland and you really have to add a lot of mustard or onion to it to spice it up which is sad for chili. The seadog is a good change of pace and expands your options a lot here. If you don’t do red meat and prefer a cod filet, this is amazing. It is served with sides of tarter, but I prefer it with the mustard and dill relish. The sides are just that, sides. There are no standouts in this department. The fries are fries and the potato salad is potato salad. They serve beer which obviously washes the dog down well. Be sure to head over to the sweet treats building to get a scope of red velvet cake ice-cream or a brownie sundae. Totally makes the experience!

Heids is «one-of-a-kind” – a local landmark serving awesome hot dogs and snappy grillers – there’s nothing like having a hot dog and coney while skipping rocks on the lake across the street. Good times – good times.

I went there with my Dad for an early dinner on 6÷20÷15. The line was surprisingly long considering no coupons(just summer). We had coney’s, hot dogs, baked beans, pickle, and soda/coffee. All of it very tasty. As you know the design of the place is weird having to wend around to get the condiments and then back track through the crowd to get to the table area. I think it’s a little bit pricey — $ 4 for a dog I think. All in all an institution for Liverpool. One more thing. Back in February during the BOGO they charged me for a fry when instead I had the beans. I should have asked for a receipt but they were pretty busy and I didn’t(and of course I was overcharged). This is just kind of annoying to me even though it’s a small difference. I sent a message on their ‘contact us’ page on the web site. Never got a response.

Heid’s is a pretty good place — not great, but decent. They serve a mild Hoffman hot dog in a New England style roll, not a traditional hot dog roll. Not seeing the New England rolls at too many places, I find them a nice change. The mustard is spicy, and the chili is good as well. Not a huge selection, but it is a good place for a hot dog. They offer a special with two hot dogs, fries, and a drink for about $ 8 — not a bad deal. It is worth a stop if you live in the area or are passing by — only five minutes from the Thruway exit.

Sure, they’re an icon of Liverpool, but I find their food to be generic at best– and definitely not worth the price. In the summer, the line is constantly out the door, so don’t expect prices to drop ever. Don’t bother with the cheese sauce if you like topping your coneys like I do because it’s some pre-made nacho cheese that probably comes in a big plastic bag– and has a flavor to match, and that’s if they even remember you ordered it(is it that uncommon?). Some redeeming qualities are that the ice cream shop next door is great! Here’s my tip: take the $ 8 – 10 you were going to spend on your hot dog and drink, and go to Wegman’s and buy a bag of 24 of them. Then, come to Heid’s after for ice cream.

A Syracuse Institution Short review of Heid’s Cool old mini restaurant/hot dog stand specializing in German sausages(hot dogs) 2 people can grab a filling lunch for 20 bucks so it’s reasonable and quick. We tried both types of dogs and they were both pretty good. They put a nice char on the dogs and the house mustard is key. Wish we had a place like Heid’s in my area, you just can’t get a good hot dog anywhere. Thanks
