Wow! I am really surprised at some of the negative reviews! I have to wonder if they were put up by competitors!?? We have been going there for several years and have enjoyed it every time! The staff is so friendly, the food is really good and the view is outstanding! I have attended a couple of private events as well and the staff goes out of their way to make sure everyone is well taken care of! I HIGHLY recommend The Pointe if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere, fun people, great drinks and yummy food!

Overpriced, under quality food. The burger and ONE side is $ 12. Any seafood item is at least $ 22. It took 20min to get any refills on drinks and that was only after we asked the waitress. The sweet potato fries that my wife had were cold. Only thing going for this place is the location. Is recommend going somewhere else.

Marginal food. The food is overpriced and not consistent from time to time. I would go elsewhere unless you are out on the lake for the day with no where else to go.

The flounder sandwich is tasteless, the tartar sauce is bland; never though it would be possible but these are the worse sweet potato fries.

I returned about seven months after the last horrendous experience, only because they provided a gift certificate. This time the experience was ok at best. The kitchen and waitress staff seemed to barely have it together, and part of our order was wrong. By the time our waitress returned after our order had been delivered by a busboy, we were halfway done and didn’t see the point of trying to get it corrected. Needless to say, there was no sense of urgency from Pointe staff. It will be a long time before I return. Do yourselves a favor and dine at Kennon House or Watersview. The service is exceptional and food is significantly better at either of those restaurants.

I have been coming here with my family pretty frequently for the past half dozen summers, dating back to when it was Eaton’s Ferry Marina. Food, as others have said, is not«amazing», but it is good, hearty food, and you can’t beat sitting near the lake on a nice day and having someone else cook for you! The new ownership has been expanding things, adding new menu items as well as a summer concert series. I tried the fish sandwich, and I was happy with the food, both quality and quantity. Had a choice of rockfish and flounder, and I got the rockfish seasoned. Came on two pieces of toast with a gracious helping of steak fries. Yes, a bit steep at $ 11, but, as others have said, not a ton of options around here. Staff was nice, food was reasonably fast, and it was a great day on the lake. I’m sure I will be back!

I’ve lived on LKG since 2008 and was excited that another restaurant was opening up! But I was disappointed — both times. The food if just blah — noting very tasty and way over priced for the delivery & quality. Although the wait staff is friendly, it seemed to take forever to get our food. Also, there is an outside area where bands play — WAYTOOLOUD!!! I hate the bands — the music totally ruins the ambiance of the evening on the lake. Too bad. I had high hopes for this little place.

Took terribly long for food, definitely over priced. We waited for about 20 minutes to place out order and it took about 30 minutes for our food. They were not busy, it was late lunch time and there was only one other table on the deck with us. I imagine they get a lot of business because of the location and lack of many other nearby options. The view was nice, but I would only return to get a drink at the bar, definitely not for food.

Worst place ever. The food is over-priced and, well, awful. Most of the staff is rude, foul-mouthed, and lazy. They hang out behind the building, taking breaks every half hour to get high while cursing loudly and glaring at the visitors. The manager obviously doesn’t know how to control them; perhaps he thinks that’s perfectly reasonable behavior. The music would be nice if they knew how to set up their sound system correctly. They seem to think the louder the better. They have begun to sprawl further and further out into the park area with tacky outdoor tents and an awful blue stage has been erected where there was once a nice family green area to watch the sunset. During the afternoons, families once loved to visit the grounds to feed the fish and enjoy the grassy park, but are now driven away by constant sterio noise at all hours, broken glass, cigarette butts, learing staff and torn-up grounds. It’s pathetic how this bar/nightclub has pushed out families and marina regulars. I can’t believe Morningstar allows it.

Location is great, that’s the good… food and service were substandard, prices were high. High even for the city. In season the area is frequented mostly by second homeowners, upper middle class folks. The problem arises when those well behaved people are mixed in with the locals. It is generally a depressed economy, high in unemployment, alcoholism, and just plain angry at the world people. Especially angry and what they deem wealthy people invading their turf. I have seen more than my share of angry violence from the locals to think it an isolated incident. It’s a shame because they are chasing away what little life blood money remains in the economy.

I’ve been to The Pointe quite a few times over the past year or so. As someone who is a part-timer on the Lake, I think I have a good point of view on the service and food. First off, the major ‘selling point’ of The Pointe is clearly the location. Who doesn’t want to eat dinner overlooking a beautiful sunset? I’ve been there several times for a first date and also taken my parents there for dinner. The Tiki bar is a great room for those wishing to kick back and be on lake time. What I feel they do well… — After a few misses, I found they can cook a steak like nobody’s business. My date and I both liked our ribeye and NY strip. I don’t know why one reviewer complained about the price. You can hardly get anything in Raleigh for the equivalent, much less a steak. –Entertainment… usually DJ or band late night on the weekends –Drinks, usually reasonably priced and tasty, they also have GF options(Titos) Where they have opportunity for improvement… –Service is hit or MISS… one night I went with my parents and literally everything we ordered came wrong and I mean wrong. It took 1.5 hrs for us to get our food. No one came to check on us or offered a free soda/dessert/meal or thanks for your patience. –The seafood(both oysters, scallops, and shrimp) have been severely overcooked when we ordered them. Like I said, steak… killed it. Not overcooked. Medium rare… perfect. –Entertainment — they were charging $ 10 last year to see the band/DJ. It might depend on the band, but that was a bit much for this Raleigh crew to venture out of the lake house. For $ 5, we would have been there probably every other weekend after dinner. I look forward to going back in a few weeks when it warms up and enjoying the Tiki bar and trying out a few more menu items. Thanks for offering a nice restaurant on the lake!

Would not recommend this restaurant. Whereas the setting is nice, the service is the absolute worst. We went there as a party of 8. The meals were delivered haphazardly over a period of 1 hour. When they brought the meal of the last person in our party, an hour after they had delivered the first of the meals, everybody else was done with their meals. The French fries were soggy and greasy. It took another half hour to get the checks and several of them showed wrong items.

My boyfriend and I went here this past Saturday to enjoy a few drinks at the bar. I had been here once before when they first opened, but that was a few years ago. I was really disappointed in The Pointe this time for several reasons. While we were just there for drinks, we were also given dinner menus, and their prices have gotten outrageous! Who’s gonna pay $ 22.95 for an 8 ounce New York strip steak?! Anyways, regarding the drinks and bar, the selection was very limited and there were no specials. My boyfriend was disappointed in the beer options, and when he finally settled on a draft Bud Light, he swore it tasted like they diluted it with water. I ordered a strawberry daquiri, and the waitress told me the bartender couldn’t do frozen drinks. Frozen drinks were the only option as far as cocktails went, and all they had besides that was beer and wine.(which, might I add, cost as much per glass as they do per bottle for the types they had.) I told her I needed a minute, and she came back and said the bartender«decided she could make it for me.» Um, okay? So I waited… and waited… and 15 minutes later, my drink was finally ready. It looked delicious, but upon tasting it, its $ 6.50 price tag didn’t add up. It tasted like a strawberry slushie from a gas station, with absolutely no bite of alcohol whatsoever. Was there alcohol in it? Who knows? I sure couldn’t tell. Overall, our waitress was as sweet as she could be, and the atmosphere was pretty cool… but you’re better off to go half a mile down the road, pick up a 6-pack from Food Lion, and share it at home.

This a great place to unwind and feel like you are on vacation. I have ordered the rockfish fish and chips and have never been disappointed. Wedge salad is delicious.

This was by far the absolute worst dining experience I have ever had. Before I get to the food and the service the bathrooms were disgusting. I will leave it. at. that. The server we had was a newer girl, but it didn’t seem like she had ever looked at the menu. We were told twice that two different items were not on the menu, when in fact I was reading straight fromit. If you are not sure, that’s fine, take a minute to check but don’t tell me that you don’t serve that, or that you’ve never heard of that menu item before, when I am reading straight from the text. When my boyfriend went to order he had to order three separate times because they were either out of stock or weren’t serving that particular item that night. I’m not really sure what he actually ended up with. For me, I ordered a flounder. I’ll expect a few pinbones every now and then, but when I have a mouthful of them after four bites that dish is getting sent back. When it came time for the check we were given one price on a drink when we placed the order. On our check it was rung up at a higher price. We sent the check back to have it corrected and the server brought the check back saying the error had been corrected. It in fact was not corrected. If you are going to charge me a certain price, at least tell me up front, or apologize that the specials aren’t running tonight, just don’t lie to me claiming to have solved the problem and bring back the exact same check, errors and all.

This is the only place we’ve been to in years that knows how to cook a shrimp properly! Normally you get overcooked shrimp at restaurants, but The Point’s kitchen puts them out perfectly every time. Try their dinner of steamed shrimp, crab claws and oysters for a real treat. Some of the biggest, plumpest, freshest and meaty oysters we’ve had. Nice views of the lake, and a casual, friendly crowd. Good bar, interesting mixed drinks. Don’t miss it.

We have been back to The Pointe a couple of times for lunch since my initial review. Both experiences were positive. On both occasions they were pretty busy at lunch but, the service has improved dramatically. Our servers were on top of things and didn’t miss a beat. The lunch menu consists mainly of sandwiches and bar food. It is all pretty solid. The club sandwich is a winner. It was piled high with bacon, lettuce, tomato and turkey on three slices of wheat bread. The accompanying chimichurrie aoili added a nice flavor. I substituted onion rings for the fries and they were pretty good. Our friends enjoyed their fish tacos which had a nice piece of grilled Mahi. My wife liked her nachos and they were definitely enough to share. They have recently added live music on Wednesday and Saturday nights.

Great location, not so great food. The food takes a realllly long time, and the crab cake on my sandwich was tiny/just not very good. The salads were pretty good, as well as the Fish & Chips special, but it takes so long to get them it’s probably not worth it. We also ordered chips and salsa(very hard to mess up, right?) but received a huge platter of chips with about a tablespoon of salsa. Too bad it’s one of the only places open for lunch during the week that’s on the water…

The coolest thing about the Pointe is the location. It’s right along Lake Gaston and a fun spot to land after an afternoon of boating. The service was only OK and the food was above average. It’s worth checking out if your in the area.
