Tenerelli Orchards have excellent stone fruit. I have been buying from them at the Pasadena Farmers market and Alhambra and even in Santa Barbara. Last year and this year I have bought my peaches by the«flat» one level for $ 25, that works out to about a dollar a piece for the peaches. Last week they did a combo of yellow and white peaches with yellow and white nectarines… The farmers can select the peaches so they all ripen at about the same time or so they will ripen a few days apart. The difference between a peach from the orchard and a grocery store peach is similar to the difference between home grown tomatoes and grocery store tomato. if you see someone pouring peaces from a crate like potatoes do not buy those peaches. Peaches are not potatoes and shouldn’t be treated as such.

These folks have the BEST peaches and nectarines around, and they’re constantly making the two-hour drive into town to sell at the farmers markets around L.A. County. Saturday mornings in the summer, their stall is my first stop to pick up my week’s supply of ripe, yellow stone fruits. While $ 3/lb(mix and match) might seem steep compared with other stalls charging an average of $ 1.50/lb, their produce is so juicy, crisp, and loaded with rich flavors and ultimately far more worth the extra few dollars. These beauties also taste AMAZING grilled(photo: ). They’ve got several varieties — summer lady, O’Henry, August snow, summer blush, honey mango, and many others that aren’t readily coming to mind. They’re so knowledgeable and can tell you all about their fruit, what they use to feed the trees, and so on. I’ve really become spoiled picking up their fruit each week, rendering store-bought peaches and nectarines so tasteless and mushy, by comparison.
