Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church

I’m relatively new to the Little Rock area moving here six months ago and I have been looking for a Catholic Church that I felt welcome at. I had previously been attending another Catholic church, but it did not have a sense of community. I had continued to go but was uninspired. I then came across Our Lady, and immediately I felt more welcome here.
Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church is what a place of worship built by a carpenter would look like. The interior is made of simple building materials. The walls and ceiling are brick and wood and the floor is simple black slate. There are stained-​glass windows illuminating the church and a sky light shinning down on the alter. The absence of marble alter is very refreshing to me. The church I attended in Irvine, CA had a similar feel so maybe my opinion is tainted by missing home.
Unlike my previous church, Holy Souls offers a social gathering selling coffee and donuts after mass. My other church did not offer this. A large part of going to church is a sense of community and as a non-​native of Arkansas, my other church did not welcome me. Holy Souls welcomes native Arkansans and outsiders.
Holy Souls also has a small Catholic School. I cannot comment on the school but from its physical size, I imagine there would be a strong bond between students, teachers, and parents knowing each other. At some other large Catholic schools this can be problem.
Holy Souls is located within the Hillcrest area. The streets leading up to the church are narrow. There is a small parking lot adjacent to the main entrance but it is easier to park on the side streets, just be mindful of the neighbors who live there.
Again, I was debating not attending church while I lived in Little Rock because I was uninspired, but Holy Souls changed that for me. If you’re in the same situation as I was, please attend Holy Souls a few times. It changed my mind. I hope you will feel the same way.
