I had fried chicken, greens, mashed potatoes, and a biscuit for lunch. Absolutely delicious! Fresh, real food and a great value. The berry pie was just okay, though.

Sometimes I wonder how long Franke’s can stay open. It’s timeless, but it’s also like going back in time. I would like to bring more people here, but I don’t think everyone enjoys it as much as I do. The Light Plate is a great deal, and if you get the fried chicken, not so light. The baked chicken falls off the bone. The catfish plate is fresh and delicious. My favorite sides are the mashed potatoes, the greens, the old-fashioned candied sweet potatoes, fried zucchini, and best of all, spinach au gratin casserole. Old school creamed spinach with hard-boiled eggs and bread crumbs. It’s unlikely you can get something like this anywhere else in town. My favorite salads are the black eyed pea and spinach, another classic with bacon, mushrooms, and a sweet tangy dressing. As for bread, go for the rolls over the cornbread. The whole wheat roll is excellent. If you’re splurging, pick up the custard pie and an iced tea. A big meal here gets up to almost $ 15; a light plate or veggie plate is around $ 8 without a drink. But sometimes you really need that iced tea. Take your bill from the cashier and stop by the condiment counter for hot sauce, steak sauce if you’re savoring the roast beef, hot pepper vinegar for your greens. Pay on your way out and don’t forget to check the news cubbies for the latest Arkansas Times. Doesn’t get much more Arkansas than Frankel’s.

Ate lunch here yesterday. Good food & very affordable! I do like old style cafeteria food. This is that. Found in a bank building downtown you would miss it if you did not have a local guiding you here. Worth it if you like Cafeteria style fare…

Franke’s is a Little Rock institution, as it is Arkansas’ oldest restaurant. I have been enjoying this establishment for over twenty years. It is a cafeteria, but don’t let that word fool you. All the food is made from scratch daily and is delicious! Franke’s is known for their Roast Beef, Fried Chicken, and Ham, all of which are wonderful. The menu changes daily and features many vegetables and sides, my favorites being their Macaroni and Cheese and Mashed Potatoes. I try not to miss an opportunity to eat at this fine place.
