The instructors at ATA on Bowman are wonderful with the students. They have an excellent ability to encourage kids to do their best while, at the same time not pushing them too hard. Both of my kids have changed so much since beginning taekwondo. My oldest has become more responsible and my youngest has been able to overcome his separation and stranger anxiety. It’s really an amazing difference! I have only two complaints. 1) The cost is ridiculous. Monthly fees, gear, weapons, belt graduation fees every six weeks. It’s really just way too much. For two children, you’ll be paying around $ 220 a month, plus an extra $ 140 every six weeks(to graduate). There is also gear to buy($ 320 per kid), and weapons($ 80 — $ 100 or so depending on the weapon — they will eventually need all of them). This particular school isn’t at fault for the pricing, necessarily, I just wanted to include this info because the only fee they really tell you about when you sign up is the flat monthly rate. As a mom new to the world of taekwondo, I didn’t realize all the additional costs. 2) I am not pleased with the way the students progress from belt to belt. It is a given that if the proper amount of time has passed, your child will be recommended to graduate. They are not required to memorize their form or perform to the level of the belt they receive. I would prefer my children be held to a higher standard. This method of progression makes me think that they just want the graduation fee to be paid whether the student is ready to progress or not. Overall, I am happy with the classes and instructors. I have shared here what I wish someone had told me before I signed on the dotted line.
