We have been to 1620 several times and have always loved it. Today we went for Mother’s Day brunch and it was excellent. Our waitress was wonderful but the manager or maybe owner came by several times to check and make sure everybody’s food was delicious. I got the steak Benedict and it was fabulous my son got the friend chicken and it was delicious with lots of chicken. My husband got biscuits and gravy and my daughter got the banana fosters pancakes and both loved theirs. They gave the mothers a chocolate soflee for dessert very nice ending to a great meal.

Beware: If you want their private room for a more private dining experience, then you will be emailed a contract to sign, which obligates you to a number of things such as if a minimum gratuity is not met, then a labor charge will be incurred and you must spend at least $ 35/person. Very tacky. I worked at a restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton and we never had to go to these kind of lengths when making reservations even for the private dining room. I was not told about the contract when I made the reservation, it just showed up in my email like a nice surprise.

My colleagues and I walked into 1620 with high hopes and I’m a little sad that they only garnered 2 stars. We walked in around 6:15pm and were greeted by a nice hostess who seated us promptly. The décor of the restaurant is really quite nice and upscale-looking. We noticed that the typical clientele was definitely on the older side, and we were easily the youngest patrons that evening. Our waiter soon come to our table and we could instantly tell that he was a new waiter. He was reading the specials off a list and seemed rather nervous. We placed our orders for entrees and ordered the goat cheese toast appetizer as well. The appetizer was very disappointing. It was basically a small pizza base with goat cheese smeared on top. The bread itself was a tad underbaked and was def not crispy /toasted. When our entrees arrived, our waiter was totally confused about who ordered what and took a minute to figure it out. His demeanor was much too casual for an upscale-feeling restaurant that priced itself as such. For example, when he asked us if we wanted more bread and we were undecided, his response was«I can just bring you more bread. it don’t make a difference to me.», accompanied by a shrug. We were all pretty baffled and amused at the same time. I ordered the grouper fillet, which was pretty decent. Not amazing, but pretty decent. All the dishes seemed to reflect reasonable taste and quality, but our waiter was just abysmal. Towards the end we thought about ordering dessert. We asked what our options were, and after listening to them, we decided to try the chocolate raspberry bread. Within a minute, our waiter returned to tell us that«someone in the back goofed up and we don’t have that anymore — that was yesterday». By this time we were all so surprised /amazed /disappointed that no dessert could have remedied it. This seems like a generally good restaurant — maybe we got saddled with a brand new waiter who had never waited tables before. He honestly reminded us of Shaggy from Scooby Doo! Judging by the other reviews, our experience seems to be an outlier. Either way, I doubt I will be returning.

I recently had dinner here while on a romantic getaway weekend with my boyfriend and we could not have been more pleased. I’ll admit I was a litle nervous after reading some of the reviews on here that I’d be disappointed but instead my expectations were exceeded. Thanks to a reviewer on here I requested a spot in the main dining room — I asked for a booth thinking I get the nice looking white tufted spots in the pictures. What you can’t see is there is a level two steps up around the main dining room that has booths — this wound up being quite fine but if you want to see the band request a spot in the center of the main dining room. We were dressed nice for fun but I saw everything for sportcoats and slacks to jeans and a button down on men so I’m not sure if there is a dress code and if there is, what it is. Serivice was spot on the entire time– we were there for 2 hours, which was perfect for a leisurly romantic dinner and allowed us time to enjoy listening to the music. I noticed that not only was our server great but all of the servers in the restaurant were well trained — In my opinion the service was on par with the 4 diamond Chez Philippe at The Peabody in Memphis. We shared small plate appitizer(lobster mac) had 2 entrees(pasta for him, filet for me), shared a dessert(the foodgasmic souflee) and the total with tax was right under $ 100 — I had a glass of sparkling wine and he had a soda for beverages. This was very reasonable to me given the level of service, ambience and food quality. My steak was cooked perfectly and came with a sause, shaved veggies and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend’s pasta was very heavy on the seafood, no skimping here. We were nevous about getting midget food but ther portions were just right, not to much to be stuffed but left us fully satisfied. The souflee was rather large and is clearly meant for sharing. To me, this place is an excellent value. A couple could go and spend $ 50 on dinner keeping it simple or go well over $ 100 with cocktails and seperate desserts. The attention to detail(things like decanting wine at the table, sorbet palate cleansing, never having an empty glass or dirty dish on the table) as well as the lovley ambience make this restaurant stand out. There are a few factors in the interior that make it clear that you are infact not at a four dimaond restaurant(they have a drop celing, booths are very generic chain restaurant type but with pretty fabric) but otherwise it’s pretty easy to fool yourself into feeling like you are at a very high end establishment — until the check comes with less than high end prices and that’s the best part. The next night we went to another little rock suburban restaurant and ran up a similar tab, also had their soufleee and weren’t nearly as wowed by our expeince. If this place was in Memphis I would be a regular visitor but as is I’m already trying to figure out how soon I can get back to Little Rock. This place is a great value for a nicer dining experience and I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice night out.

We dined here this past Saturday night and we had a decent experience. We had a reservation for the casual side. I was a little disappointed in that after seeing the pictures of the beautiful dining room, but once we were there and seated, I was completely pleased with where we were sat. The main dining room felt very public. It was very bright, and just a little too formal. We had a corner booth, and other than the fact that it was FREEZING, it was a great location. It was dim & quite romantic… Until the jazz band they had hired sat up less than a foot away from me…(I’m not exaggerating. I had to squeeze through the table and the drums to go to my bathroom. I know the place turns into a nightclub at 10:00, but this was 9:00, and my husband and I pretty much had to end our conversation once they started playing. There were a few issues that kept the service from being excellent. Just little nitpicky things, but when you’re paying nearly $ 200 for dinner, you want impeccable service. #1 My husband was never brought a steak knife. I’m sorry, but when you order a $ 52 porterhouse, and ask for a steak knife, having to eat your steak with a butter knife because no one ever brings you a real knife is unacceptable. #2 My water glass was completely empty twice. #3(And this is really nitpicky) Everyone else I saw(I love people watching) had their checks brought to them on a silver platter. We were using a groupon and I handed the server my phone to get it off of before she brought us the check. When she brought me my check, she had it on a plastic amex tray like you’ll find at any chain restaurant. While the service had a few flaws, the food was excellent. We both ordered house salads to start. They were simple mixed greens, with cucumber slices, some pickled red onion and a few thin slices of radish. They were quite good, and the herb vinagrette was delicious. The raspberry sorbet as a palate cleanser was a nice touch. Our main courses came out and my jaw dropped. I know at upscale restaurants portion size isn’t that large, but I was completely stunned when they placed my dinner in front of me. I ordered the 1620 Scallops. It was 4 scallops. Now, if they were the huge, plump, perfect scallops at SO! that would be one thing. But they were not. Each scallop was about 1 cm in thickness. The description on the menu read this: «Sofrito, Jalapeño, Button Mushroom, Asparagus, Hollandaise Sauce«Besides the pathetic excuse for scallops, I had two small mushrooms, and two pieces of asparagus. My $ 7 house salad was more substantial that my $ 24 entrée. However, everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. The hollandaise was some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Luckily my husband’s porthouse was much more substantial, because I had quite a few bites of his. The steak was flavorful, juicy and tender(it had to be, since he had to cut it with a butter knife). The mushrooms and the brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked, and the potato soufle was absolutely delicious. For dessert we ordered somekind of cake. It was a basic vanilla cake, with a strawberry mousse and topped with a white chocolate ganache. This was delicious, but hard to eat. You couldn;t cut into the white chocolate, so we peeled it off and ate it on it’s own. The cake was decent, but the strawberry mousse was excellent. I honestly don’t think we’ll be back here. We only have one more special occasion to celebrate while we’re here, and I think we’ll hang on to SO! as our special occasion spot. I’m glad we tried this place, but in my opinion the quality of the food doesn’t match the price tag, and for our visit, the service didn’t either. We have no problem spending over $ 100 on a nice dinner. We pretty much do it every time we go for sushi. But whenever we have an expensive sushi date or go crazy at Capers, we always leave completely satisfied, and unfortunately I didn’t have that experience here.

We had the pleasure of dining here about a week ago to celebrate a special anniversary, and we couldn’t have chosen a better venue.(Although next time we’ll ask specifically when making the reservation to be seated in the main dining room.) Before we went, I asked a friend who had been the week before about it. She said it would indeed be perfect for a special occasion, to have a reservation and to dress up, as she and her husband felt a little under-dressed. She was right on all counts. We put on our finery and had a grand time. We arrived a little early, as usual, for our reservation, but we were seated right away in the secondary dining area. Of course, we were walked through the beautiful, shining white main area with the water feature, etc. It is absolutely beautiful! Where we were seated was dark and somewhat cozy, with its own bar area(and own restrooms), and it’s not unattractive, but it’s not what you just saw coming in! We were very comfortable, however in our booth… …Except for how chilly it was in there that evening. My husband, when asking our very courteous waitress, Tiffany, if the AC could be turned down sounded a little more terse than he meant to, and when she returned, he apologized to her for his manner. She responded graciously, «Sir, you are our guests; we want you to be comfortable here!» Later another manager came over to check on our comfort as well. I ordered a cosmopolitan right away, and my husband selected a beer on draft, The cosmo was quite nice, strong, but not overwhelming, perfectly mixed. I was pleased! And I only had one! If you are familiar with the former iteration of this restaurant at this site, you will recognize some menu items(the smoked duck Ceasar salad, for instance), but there are enough new listings to really excite you if you’re looking for a new experience. There are a number of small plates that had our interest right away. Not wanting to gorge ourselves, we split the mushroom risotto as a first course. It was incredibly delicious, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to share it after I tried the first bite. It was really a «small plate,» so we thought next time we could split two small plates, maybe the ricotta gnocchi next time! If you went with a group, sharing several of these among your group would be a deliciously good time. For our entrees, I vacillated in my choice between the duck on offer and the 6 oz. filet(which is reasonably priced at $ 25). Though the duck looked wonderful, its accompaniments weren’t to my taste, so I selected the filet, cooked«very rare.» My husband had the salmon, of course. We were both completely thrilled. My husband is a connoisseur of salmon, and he said right away how perfectly it was cooked(he’s so often saddened by overcooked salmon). My steak was PERFECT! Crispy outside, cool, red center. I love the steaks at Ashley’s, but this experience reminded me that these folks do indeed serve the best rare filet in the city. I ordered a glass of malbec to accompany my entrée, and it was a delicious choice. Of course, we shared the rum chocolate soufflé for dessert, and it was dreamy. In a celebratory mood, I splurged on the 1620 Special Coffee, which has all the dreamy additives(I cannot remember them all), and it was the perfect partner for the soufflé. Our experience was amazing, and the food is a rival of any in the city’s fine restaurants. We’re keeping 1620 on our special-occassion go-to list.
