I have gotten a few tattoos here along with a few sets of surface dermals. I mostly had Eclipse and i must say he is the best person to converse with while getting a tattoo or piercing. He is by far my favorite artist there because i have had him the most. They do an amazing job with their piercing procedures and always sanitize EVERYTHING even their work station before preforming anything on the customer. They arent that cheap based on what you get and they are very social artists who make your experience the best they can provide

Rob has done two tattoos for me so far. He is professional and friendly. All of the artists will give their honest opinion about the piece you want. They will let you know how it will age, if they think it won’t translate well onto the skin, etc. I appreciate their opinions and end up getting something better than I originally plan. Rob answered all of my questions and all of the artists are very knowledgable. They open all of the materials in front of you and the place is very clean . Added bonus, they are open late and have convenient hours. You can walk in, you don’t need an appointment.

Came in for a piercing a while ago. Girl at front desk was very nice, showed me the different types of jewelry available for my type of piercing. Pricing was great for the northern NJ area so that was a plus. I also like that she didn’t push aftercare products on me during our transaction. The procedure itself was fine, obviously my guy was a skilled piercer(the piercing healed flawlessly within a few days, minimal tenderness, not swollen, etc), but I wish he was a bit more social. I don’t mean to continuously talk, but a greeting wouldn’t have made me feel like I was a bother. There was silence as he set up for me. I was nervous so small talk on what to expect would have taken the edge off. Not a bad guy, just felt he could have chummed it up more given the nature of the business. Maybe he had a long day, who knows. Don’t think I’d be back though.

About a week ago, I went here with my friend to get small tattoos. As I was there, I decided to purchase septum jewelry for my piercing. I asked the receptionist if someone can put this ring in for me. The person who put my ring in had an extremely hard time inserting it because he said my piercing was«too high» in my nose. Soon, he finally got it on and I was ready to go. Fast forward to this week. I woke up earlier this week and noticed my ring was rotated. So I tried to move it back to how it was before and it would not move at all. It felt like it was stuck. So I stopped bothering it and decided to wait until the next time I have off from work to come back and perhaps have the guy fix it or take the ring out. Wednesday(yesterday) it was hurting so much, and I was not even bothering it at all. I tried using aquaphor to see if maybe it would move with lubrication but that did not work. So I went to the emergency room to have them look at it and take it out. Come to find out the guy who put the ring in, he did not put the ring through the hole correctly. Instead, all he did was squeeze the two ends together where the hole was and that’s why it would get stuck and caught into my nose. I ended up getting a skin infection from the irritation of the cheap metal ring that was turning green and from it not being put in properly. If I were you, I would not come here if you are getting piercings or to get a ring put in because that guy did a bad job. I really do not remember his name, but I do know he is very tall and he has large gauges in his earlobes. Him saying my piercing was too high up initially, should of gave him a red light indication that he should not had tried to put this ring in, since it did take him 15 minutes to put it in.

okay… Ended up just wanting to get one tattoo here. Ended up getting almost a half sleeve. All the artists here are very nice and know what their doing. The pricing is fair. Eclipse is definitely my favorite. He makes conversation with you, makes you forget about the pain from your tattoo. Thank you blackwork!

I was here in January 2012 to get a Phoenix on my leg. I also got an Asian Symbol on my back. Both times I was happy with the work. I don’t remember my artists name. Both were done by different people. I am a collector. There really isn’t any rhyme or reason to what I am getting. I just get inked when something that is classified as «critical mass stress» happens. The work here isn’t the issue, neither is cleanliness. The shop is clean, artists are skilled. If I were awarding on work I would drop a 4.5 if I could. Today I stopped in not really knowing what I wanted. I have gotten work done here before. The girl at the counter was dismissive and not helpful. I would have liked to have spoken with an artist. But she basically ignored me. I kept asking her questions, «what do you think of this?» Or «about how long would something like x take? I’m not sure I want to sit still» and I got a one liner, only you can decide. Yes, I know my tattoo is my decision but hello? The other times I was here I got to consult with the artist. I’m not sure I will be back. At every other shop I browsed at and consulted with today about the new piece I want, an artist met with me briefly and explained the shops policy for custom v. non-custom work and what I could anticipate with my foot. Yes, that’s where I am sticking it. I was going to do something small on my wrist but not happening now. I’m kind of put off. Again, the problem is not the work but the receptionist. _________ To the non-recommended reviewer of know what you want: I do. I am just not blasting on the Internet. I like looking at the art and talking to the artist first. I was not greeted in the store the day I was here and I was never offered the chance to speak with anyone. I have an unfinished piece on my foot and was considering getting two new pieces and needed help with placement. I have a job where visibility is an issue. When I asked a question, that was when I should have been referred to an artist. I found someone else to work with me. No biggie. I like my Phoenix which was done on a whim here. I saw it in their book and they accommodated me, and that’s the only reason why this isn’t one star.

This is one of the cleanest, best qualified, most talented, and friendliest shop I have been in. I had previously had received a tattoo from a different shop long ago and it came out bad. I since then have frequented Blackwork to get my first tattoo covered on my back, which the artist Ease took care of and can not even see the previous tattoo. He has then done both sleeves, done COMPLETELYFREEHAND!!!(Cant find that much anymore around here) I have sent other friends and family back to them with total confidence and every artist delivered and proved themselves to everyone I have sent. Ses the owner is very accomplished in his work and the artist he has hired. OH… The PRICING for the quality is by far in favor for the customer… I have outstanding ink for AMAZING prices… They keep me coming back for more. Well worth the time and money. You will miss out if you went someplace else.

Eclipse did a great job on my boyfriends tattoo last week. He simply told him he wanted certain dates and certain initials and eclipse took it from there using his creativity. He was very friendly and cool to talk to. And he didn’t make me sit in the waiting room while my bf got his tat which I was happy about lol. Def recommend him.

I got my nose pierced here recently. I walked into the brightly-lit studio, and told the receptionist what I wanted. She asked for my ID to prove I was 18 years old, and then gave me paperwork about liability, medical issues, aftercare, etc. Within minutes the piercer, Cheeno, was ready, and I went into his corner of the studio. I watched him wash his hands multiple times and sterilize all needles/jewelry, etc. He asked me exactly what I wanted and where, allowing me to choose the exact spot on my nose if his suggestion wasn’t what I wanted. The whole piercing process was very quick, and I didn’t find it that painful. He washed his hands and changed his gloves multiple times, and cleaned the nosering, needle, and my nose many times too. After it was over, he cleaned up again, and explained how to take care of my new piercing. I was very satisfied with the whole process. It was quick, not very painful, not very expensive, but most of all, SAFE. They asked all the right questions on their medical form, made sure to ask for proof of age, and cleaned/sterilized/washed EVERYTHING multiple times. Black Work has been recommended to me many times for both tattoos and piercings, and I would have to pass along that recommendation again!
