Formals of Litchfield

I am a plus size bride and I went to 5 or 6 stores before someone told me about formals of Litchfield. After all those stores of dresses that didn’t fit me because I am not the «ideal sample size» I was feeling very anxious and nervous about continuing wedding dress shopping. I can honestly say formals of Litchfield was the first time my wedding dress experience was 100% positive. We went at a time where no one else was there and we had assistance from the owner and both consultants. Our primary consultant (I wish I can remember her name) was excellent. She encouraged me to only try on dresses that would fit me where other salons just pulled whatever size they had and shoved me into it. Nothing destroys a bride’s self image more than being told that half the dresses she was interested in won’t fit her. After trying on five dresses I finally found my dress that I had been wanting, fit, fabric, and everything! Not to mention they had MATCHING cap sleeves in stock! I got the dress, my accessories, and a bag for less than what other salons wanted for just the dress and alterations alone. No pressure what so ever (the owner actually told me that if the dresses I was trying on didn’t beat the one dress I had already picked out, to go back to the other salon and get the other dress… not try to sell me one that I wasn’t sure I LOVED).
After I purchased my dress they also let me look through bridesmaid samples and gave me ideas there as well. They even pulled a few samples they had in stock for me to look at so I had I better idea than picture. Much more positive experience than my previous appointments. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone.
Just a note though they do sell «off the rack» so if you find a dress you love, buy it then because it might not be there when you come back.

I had a wonderful time selecting my wedding dress from here! I had tried several other places and one thing that frustrated me was that no one would let me take pictures of my dresses so I could look back at them while making my decision. Here I was able to take pictures of my final selections before officially deciding. They also were very understanding and flexible with payment options and when I decided to change my hairstyle last minute, they helped me pick out new accessories and weren’t angry I was changing something at all. They took the time to sit with my mother and I before we even looked at dresses to get an idea of what we were looking for. They found a dress that matched perfectly what I described as my dream dress! I was also mesmerized by a beautiful dress they had on the mannequin. They didn’t act annoyed in the slightest and took it right off the mannequin for me. That beautiful gown became what we called my va va voom dress and was the one I ultimately selected. I think they make great choices with their displays and I may have never found my perfect dress had it just been hanging on a hanger. I am so grateful for my experience there!

I bought my prom dress here. I had a great experience! Our consultant, who I don’t know the name of, was very nice. She was very patient and helpful. She didn’t push me to buy a dress and let me pick completely on my own what dress I wanted. She also made sure to check with us many times before letting me try on dresses over our budget. I also love the ring system they have. You pick 4 of your favorite dresses and put a ring on them when you come in. Then after you start trying on you are allowed to keep rings on two of your favorite dresses at all times. This helps you not get too confused on, which dresses you like. I’m glad Formals of Litchfield was able to help me find the perfect dress for prom my senior year!

Most of the employees here were great. Unfortunately, one of them was completely awful, and it ultimately caused my sister to seek out bridesmaid dresses at another store despite the fact that she had already committed to buying her wedding dress here.
While trying on bridesmaid dresses, my non-​bride sister and one of my engaged sister’s friends were trying on dresses. Now the friend was a few sizes larger, which is no big deal to us, but apparently it was to the sales girl. She repeatedly made a point of coming out with several dresses and loudly saying things like, «These will work for our bigger bridesmaid and then these others are the small sizes,» as she handed the dresses to them to be tried on. Several other customers looked stunned at the way she kept phrasing it.
What’s especially odd is that other employees were nearby and no one thought to take her aside and suggest that maybe the «bigger bridesmaid» had a name that could be used instead of repeatedly pointing out the fact that her size was slightly out of the single digit range.
If you have a less than petite bridesmaid, I would strongly recommend that you go elsewhere where you can be treated with a little more respect and dignity. I have no idea if this particular girl is still working there, but if the owners have any sense, they’ll realize that her attitude cost them at least one big sale (4 bridesmaid dresses) and possibly many more with people who didn’t speak up.
