The course has always struggled with problems but use to be in fairly good condition years ago when in private ownership. Today it isn’t worth playing and is not kept up the way it should be. There are several holes near roads, o.b. or trees which were recently drastically cut back or eliminated making the short par 27 somewhat of a challenge but very manageable. The condition being so poor will cost you strokes which is never fun on any course. If the city would hire a caretaker instead of how it is handled now believe it could be the fun course I learned to play on.

I usually play Exeter, but they have senior tournaments on Thursdays and are closed to the general public during the morning, so a friend and I decided to go a bit further into Lindsay and give their course a try. I was already unimpressed looking at the course clubhouse. It looks like a really, old and abandoned home from the outside. All of the holes are very short distanced, and what’s worse is some of them are very close to townhouses, and depending on how bad or far you hit the ball, you could easily break a window and be responsible for property damage. The other thing that was annoying about being so close to townhouses was one of the residents at that housing complex was blaring the radio from their house which was highly distracting when I was trying to putt on one hole. The course has way too many trees, which is an extreme nuisance especially when trying to go for the good drives from the tee box. I felt like I hit more trees here than anywhere else. The course looks nearly dead in most areas. They should spend at least a couple grand, and put a good sprinkler system in, and replace the fairways with better grass. The greens had grass that was way too long, and needed some serious mowing, and the length of the grass really messed up my putting bad. The only good merits this course gets are the fact that it has no water hazards which is good, if you enjoy golf but aren’t very good as I am, and the price, it’s $ 6 for 9 holes. But having said that you get what you pay for. This definitely isn’t the worst course in the Valley, Woodlake will always be the worst in my opinion, but this is definitely a close second, and next time Exeter is closed because of a tournament, I think I’ll drive an extra ten minutes down the road to Porterville Municipal which is only a little more expensive, and much, much nicer than this course.
