I have come here for quite some time. I came this evening and your hostess wasn’t being very inviting. I wanted a table, she said«do you want to sit at the bar?» NO I asked for a table. She acted like I was inconveniencing her. What happened?!? This USED to be a good place to go. I turned around and walked out.

Im not a fan of chains. However Chevys is a very low offender in my book. Usually pretty acceptable in food quality. We were near the theater and went here after because margaritas sounded good. Waiter got my order wrong. Went to fix it and got the fix wrong. The chips were cold and greasy. Not their usual. As per chain custom, there was a fraction of the booze in their margaritas. Disappointed and will most likely not go back to that location.

I personally used to love this place, It was a nice to go to about once a month for a nice not overly-priced meal. But things are slowly starting to change. The food is still great but the chips and salsa a starting to taste stale. My main issue with Chevy’s is the service. I’ve noticed for the past few visits to Chevy’s that every time I go there new people are working at the location. This leads to slow service which really hurts the overall dining experience. The service used to be great especially with their former host Earl who truly cemented my reasoning to come back to this location. If your looking for delicious traditional Mexican food this is your place. However, be warned that the quality of service doesn’t match the quality of food.

Overall, its just the normal tex-mex spot for drinking and sports. They have a «mixed vegetable» version of their burritos/enchiladas/quesadillas/etc bit not much else seems veggie-friendly. The table side quac is incredibly lackluster and really awkward for everyone involved(one avocado’s worth for 9 $??). Splitting veggie friendly meals, nothing was notable and even though there is tons of food left on our plates, we aren’t taking anything home with us.

The server genesis was rude and not helpful at all. Snatched a menu from my friend hand not polite and barely checking up on us. Gave us excuses why our desserts were not presentable and neat. I gave NO tip but server must of added a tip of her own because my card was charged more then it was suppose to be. My bill was $ 5.34 why does it say on my bill $ 6.41??? Never coming back.

Rookie service is the reason for this rating. For apps we got the table side guac on some sampler. Guac is real good and worth is but the sampler was a waste. When the apps came we didn’t get any plates with it… so we ate and by the time we were finished the waiter came back with plates! Also we had to wait for chips once the guac was done… just looking at it in anticipation lol. The fajitas were decent and tortillas were real good but yet again had to wait for them while looking at our fajitas sizzling. Little things like that are what would shy away some people… and it’s not like the foods real cheap either

Would never come here again food taste horrible doesn’t even taste like real Mexican food. The tortillas are bad as hell & the employees have bad attitude. They mostly have liquor no type of non-liquor things.

Reviews these days have been taken way out of context of its original purpose, so I’ll say this for my 2 stars. My overall experiences here including this last one has never been a great one from beginning to end. At this point I will say I just don’t feel my business is appreciated. The fact I chose this location to eat in an area where there are several other nearby places to go even in walking distance, did not make a difference. It’s not about the money, it’s the value of the dining experience. I never can leave saying I enjoyed going there.

Quick service, consistent flavor of food, my go to place around here. I have found Jose Tejas overly salty, every time I went, and overly crowded.

No thanks! Food was average. No games on tv except soccer)…had to wait forever to get my check. Step it up guys… it’s really not that complex a formula to draw a crowd of people spending $$.

If it was possible to give less than 1 star, I would! We have been here numerous times, and each visit is getting more and more disappointing. Our waitress started out very kind, but we ordered dinner over an hour ago, and it’s still not here. Now she is avoiding our table, and never even said why there was a delay! Completely unacceptable and so frustrating. Very seriously considering never coming back. Oh, dinner? No, thanks… I wasn’t hungry anyway! What an absolute joke of a restaurant. Update: our waitress finally came back to ask if we were okay, and we had to tell her we NEVER received our dinner. She told us a food runner was supposed to bring it out and kept saying«are you kidding me?» No, I’ve sat here for 90 mins, I’m not kidding you. And she must have known we didn’t get our food, because the couple of times she checked, she didn’t offer us anything else. With 20 mins to go we told her don’t bother. She said she’d had a busy day and kept apologizing. But then asked us if we wanted the check. We were insulted we weren’t offered a manager or speak to. We weren’t offered our bill comped. Our total was $ 10.25, and that was exactly what we left. I’m sorry you had a busy day. I’m an RN that came in after a 12 hour shift, and couldn’t even get dinner. Very, very disappointed.

UPDATE** I recently went back in hopes of having a better experience. While I will say the service was 100% better the food not so much. I’m hoping they start focusing on fresher ingredients. The meals are just not that great. Tortillas and rice just seem old. Or Iike they have been sitting out. One more star for the lovely waitress !! Ordered shrimp tacos. The tortillas were half hard. The shrimp was obviously from a frozen bag. Rice and beans seemed old. The margaritas were basically mixer with ice. On top of the bad food the service was slooow! I asked for chips and water like three times and the guy would shake his head«yes» a never returned with the things I asked. It was a Thursday afternoon and not packed at all. No reason for the slow service. I won’t be going back.

This place has changed! I went for an early dinner with family after a movie. The restaurant was disgusting. My table was dirty and the manager who seated us gave me a puzzled look when I asked him to wipe it down. The food was a 2. The service was a 1. The condition of the restaurant was a negative 1. Such a shame. This used to be a very clean restaurant and a very pleasant dining experience. I will not be going back.

Very simple, wait about an hour and have great Tex-Mex @ Jose Tejas or just walk in with no wait time and have horrible Tex-Mex @ Chevys.

This is by far the worse Chevys I have been to. I am sitting here right now and can not wait till I am able to pay. Poor manager he is stuck with a staff that looks miserable. My waitress is barely audible. She is whispering and I have to read her lips over the music. I had to ASK for the free chips and salsa. She hasn’t asked how are food was and asked if everything was ok as she rushed by. My boyfriend order an alcoholic drink that was pure mix. He informed our waitress and she instead of fixing it she had to get her manager who then explained how a fruity drink you won’t taste the alcohol. Just fix it don’t have a full conversation about how we are wrong. Plus the booth they gave us had broken leather. Worse Chevys experience ever

Hands down my favorite Mexican local restaurant. I have been coming here for few years now on monthly basis. 1 I love free fresh chips with salsa. 2 portions are big 3 food is consistent and good. 4 portions are very generous 5 quick service and no wait for the most part. 6 price is good though lately over the past year or so prices did go up a bit. I have been to Jose Tejas and yes it’s good but don’t know what the hype is about with these insane wait times no matter what day of the week. This place u never really deal with that and honestly I like the food here a lot more. Jose Tejas is good but more on Cajun flavoring than Mexican. U won’t be disappointed here. Shrimp and crab enchiladas are awesome as well as chicken and or steak fajitas can’t go wrong. I also like tables side made guacamole definitely worth a try.

I am disappointed with my experience at Chevy’s in Linden. Tables were sticky and covered in crayon drawings from previous child diners. Waiter was very attentive although he did not bring everybody waters and somebody was missing a silverware set. We asked if the guacamole(they make it at your table) contained salt, and he said no, but it was super salty. Primarily I am writing this review because my order came about 10 – 15 minutes after everybody else’s at my table. The waiter apologized and said something to the extent of «sorry, they just don’t make that dish often so they messed it up.» What was my dish, you ask? A bean and cheese burrito and a vegetable burrito. This is possibly the easiest thing to make out of everybody else’s orders? Clearly this is not the fault of the waiter, but of the kitchen staff. Having a dish come after everybody else has already finished their meals entirely unacceptable. Additionally, nothing was done on their part for damage control. I would have appreciated more than a simple«sorry» from the waiter, because my dining experience was ruined. As far as the food quality goes(for my vegetarians out there), I would definitely recommend getting the farmers market fajita instead of the combo deal with bean and/or veggie burritos because the burritos(when they in fact finally arrived) contained the exact same black beans from a can that they filled the rest of the plate with as a side dish.

Been here quite a few times now and I am very glad that I have been introduced to this place. I guess it’s a chain but this particular Chevys is the only one I’ve ever been to. I was lucky enough to go here for cinco de mayo, yes it was crazy and loud but we were told an hour wait and were seated in probably 45 minutes. There was music, sombrero hats, and loads and loads of drinks! A girl came around with Jell-O shots too, but I passed. You can’t go wrong with their $ 3 margaritas! They are incredibly tasty! Can’t have just one. Our food came out very fast too! I tried their grande chimichanga. Great portion sizes and a bang in flavor with every bite. Their cheese sauce was delicious and the beef was cooked just right. The rice and beans made up a very fullfilling meal. My boyfriend had the super cinco, which consisted of everything. Enchiladas, tacos, burritos, tamales, and a delicious chili rellano. He was very satisfied. Great atmosphere and awesome Mexican food with friends. Seriously a good time.
