Not that bad, but some basics are missing. Things it has going for it: — Water for dogs just outside dog run(wasn’t working when I was there but there was a spigot near white barn) — Separate large and small dog runs and both are big — Concrete pad for seating area — Adequate fencing, gates & entry area — Poop bags provided — Dedicated parking Things it has against it: — No bathrooms near run for humans — Limited shade — Limited seating — Dirt and grass ground cover If they added more shade and seating and brought a dedicated water source into both dog runs this is a 4 star dog run. Also upgrade the ground cover it could potentially be a 5 star dog run. Dog runs/parks I have been to so far:

Love this dog park for my 280 lb dogs. So many responsible, knowledgeable dog owners come here. Use common sense… don’t bring treats in. Balls/frisbees are welcome but not if your dog is territorial over it. Don’t put your dog on a leash in the dog park… take the leash off prior to entering. If your dog only enjoys playing with other dogs while they’re on their backs and it’s on top of them, then you probably haven’t socialized it very well and it shouldn’t be there until you do. A minute of that, great, two minutes, fine…5 minutes, get your dog off my dog, I didn’t come here just so your dog can have a good time… he’s not«just playing» at that point. He’s the jerky kid on the playground. If a dog growls, it doesn’t mean it’s vicious and you should get anxious and transfer that anxiety to your dog so it escalates into a fight. Dogs often growl when they’re playing.(FYI, my dogs aren’t growlers, but I’ve been there with growlers before who play just fine until that one person shows up with their dog and acts as if someone just attacked her dog when they hear a growl, and then things can get crazy b/c the human escalates the situation. I also wish the owners would stop congregating near the gate inside the park b/c then that’s where all the dogs stay and when a new dog comes to be let in, they overwhelm him/her. Walk around the entire enclosure people!

This is my favorite park in Monmouth County. It is nice because you can run/walk on the typical paved areas(which there are miles of) or take the trails. Although the trails are shorter, there are a bunch of them, and they are all super fun. My favorite is one that loops around the lake, it is sort of hidden. Very beautiful, well kept area, I would recommend.

Gorgeous park! It is so large, I got really lost. I was trying to do the 5 mile reservoir trail. There was an outlet that i followed and I ended up at the playground and continued to run back and forth from the beginning of the trails to the park map about three times. The outlets to get in/out of trails are not too well demarcated. I ended up only doing a ¼ of the run, and did the rest of my running on the track loop area. I will bring my map next time!

Big beautiful park. Perfect for a day of nature for the entire family. There’s a 5 mile paved trail to walk, jog or bike ride. Lake w/canoes. Barbecue pits. Corn field maze. They sponsor a park day for all w/emphasis on the kids w/rides and tons of activities in October.

While i am not a huge fan of dog parks i have used it for socializing my dogs when i first rescue them. Unlike other Dog Parks, I am always greeted by friendly, responsible owners. i own two rescued pitbulls who are well mannered and have never ran into people with ignorant or judgmental mind sets. It is refreshing. Park is maintained and the rangers check in as well. Two fenced in open areas to separate large and small breeds. Bring a bucket and there’s a spout for h2o. Leave your treats and toys at home. It’s a no-no.

Thompson Park is a large park lush with green pastures, trees, trails and activity fields. I came here working as the EMT /medical standby for a rugby league game(and will a few more times this season) and was taken aback by all the natural beauty preserved within this wildlife kingdom. Culture-shocked by all the nature going from NYC to central NJ, I was left in awe. The park is huge. So big in fact that I actually got lost in it my first time and was fearful I may not make it to the designated rugby field in time for the pre-game medical needs(taping ankles and whatnot.) Good for the family, taking a stroll on your lunch break or picnic with a loved one — Thompson Park will give you the space and scenery — you just BYOB.
