The Marriott Theatre

Amazing talent seen at The Marriott yesterday in Evita. Two friends and I saw the production starring Hannah Corneau as Eva, Austin Lesch as Che, and Larry Adams as Peron. Each was fantastic, as every word of this entirely-​sung musical was clearly understandable and every note was impeccably hit. Considering the fast paced tempo of most of the songs, that’s quite a feat. Loved the powerful choreography of the ensemble on such a small stage. Fantastic!

We saw October Sky and Sister Act — both were great performances but before we got to the venue we needed to get tickets from the box office. The box office staff can really make or break how you feel about attending the play. Marriott staff was great! We would recommend this theater to anyone.

I live very close to the Marriott Theatre and used to go fairly regularly. I hadn’t gone in several years because I no longer found the shows worthwhile.
I did go back Friday evening to see Sister Act and was reminded why I stopped going. The actors, their singing voices and acting ability were top notch. The seating is comfortable and there’s not a bad seat in the house.
However, the sound system is antiquated, at least it seems so, and a serious detriment to both the talented performers and the audience. It’s a shame because everything else is first class. How much would it cost to put in a state of the art sound system? This problem is significantly amplified by the fact that they only do musicals, for which the sound quality is so critical.
I won’t be hurrying back. There are too many theaters with far superior sound that provide a more enjoyable experience.

Bright, vibrant, humorous and energetic, this play had it all. The actors and actresses are filled with an enthusiasm that bring a welcoming high engery into the theater.
They dance, sing, and tell the Sister act story with zeal and a sence of humor.
The theater its self seats around 400 – 500 maybe. The stage is in the middle. We sat in sec H. This is one row from being as far back as you could (second to last row) and the seats were just fine. Seemingly not a bad seat in the house.
Seats themselves? Wide enough for ppl on the fuller side… and comfortable. Med. In leg room from isle to isle. Knees not up against the row in front of you.
Lobby smaller in size.
Bathrooms close by, but very odd and narrow entrance/​exit. Makes for a accident zone bumping into ppl as they are either trying to enter or exit.
Will return, want to most definitely see Evita!
But this time I will pic the seats and will save the money and not do the hotel/​play deal. The room ok… the walls VERY THIN.

One star, not for the shows, but for the Manager of the box office Barb. My sister gets me season tickets every Christmas. This year she ordered the wrong time show. I called to change to an earlier time. Joan helped me with this call. She said when I sent my old tickets back she would send out the new tickets. When I got the new tickets their was a charge on their for $ 70.00 that they applied to the credit card on file. (which was my sisters). When I was changing the tickets Joan never ever told me about an extra charge and that she would be billing the credit card on file. I would never of approved that. My sister gave this as a gift, do you really think I would of done that! Now, Barb the manager says there is nothing that can be done, but return the new tickets and she will refund my sisters card and send our old tickets back. What a bunch of shit! Now, I have to tell my sister that she will be billed 70.00, and also credited 70.00. Talk about crappy customer service. Barb could of at least gave me a discount or something. She did not care that my sister is a long time customer of theirs. Barb needs to get a new job! Not in the customer service arena!

The seussical was amazingggg! I went as a helper with my daughters class and the staff was sooooo good! I actuallly plan to go back to see elf because the same staff does the elf musical and they were very goood! The venue was very beautiful and clean. I am very excited to go back to see the elf.

The theater facility was really nice. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house. The location is kind of strange, though. Essentially you drive out to the middle of nowhere where there is this hotel/​banquet center that was PACKED with weddings. It seemed like a lot of the attendees were much older than my husband and myself (not that that really matters).
I wasn’t very enamored with the performance we saw of City of Angels. I thought that the female cast was good, but the lead male actors left something to be desired, and the plot didn’t make very much sense. I don’t think I’d make an effort to go back, but I don’t regret going to begin with.

This review is for the Saturday matinée (4:30pm) of ‘City of Angels’. It is a small theatre which means great seats for everyone. I recommend any of the aisle seats because they are situated such that there is no seat in front of them. It seemed like there were many regulars there because people seemed to know others and were very friendly. The production was very professional, including an orchestra. I will consider returning to the Marriott Theatre for another show.

I’ve been here several times, so now I’m confident in leaving a review.
I’ve only been here for the children’s performances and every single time, it has been a wonderful experience. The quality of the performances and standards are very high.
We’ve done The Nutcracker, Wizard of Oz, and today, The Princess and the Pea.
This theater is one of those 360 degree theaters, which means there’s not a bad seat in the house. The seats only go 9 rows back, so you always feel like part of the action.
This layout makes for awesome set direction and design. I’m always impressed with how props are integrated with the limited space, and how creative the team gets, using the mechanics in the stage and the ceiling. They also have projectors and LCDs that sometimes play a role in the storytelling.
I’m excited seeing how these experiences are leading to my son’s appreciation for theater and acting. The cost is more than reasonable, for the memories and inspiration that the shows provide.

Took my granddaughters to see The Princess and The Pea. they loved it and I enjoyed it also myself very much. The format was adorable and it was really a delightful little play — one hour so the little ones can sit through and done very well, like everything Marriott does.

I am obsessed with the intimacy this theatre venue provides! Going to pretty much all the broadway shows at the various theaters in the city DOES NOT COMPARE to the experience you get at The Marriot Theatre. The stage is positioned in the center so that anywhere you sit you feel like you are a part of the show. Being able to see the actors’ faces is SO SPECIAL & AMAZING! So far I have seen 2 shows here (Godspell & La Cage a Folles) both were FABULOUS! La Cage was EVEN BETTER than on Broadway. I can’t wait to go back and see all the other great shows they have to offer.

I’m a big fan of this theatre, maybe because it’s awesome and in the suburbs!
Most recently, we went to our first kids show with our 3 year old and I was so impressed! We saw the Wizard of Oz and the theatre was crawling with kids of all ages. The show was only an hour, which was the perfect amount of time to keep my child’s attention. Sure, they rushed through the story, but they hit all the high points with great acting, music, costumes, and props. There’s not a bad seat in the house. The Q&A at the end was a nice touch, too. For some reason I seem to always forget about this theatre, but after this last show, I’ve vowed to seek out more performances here!

Yesterday we went to see King and I. It’s unbelievable. Love the theater, love everything there. Love the show. I read a book, but this show captured so many great things from the book. It’s unreal. Highly recommended !!!

We saw «The King and I» and stayed at the Marriott Resort for our anniversary. The show was great. The theater is small, but intimate, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. The show is performed in the round, so the seating surrounds the stage in the center. We really enjoyed the show and are already planning on going back in the spring for another production.

I have been going to Marriott’s theatre for over 25 years, and never been disappointed. The venue’s unusual «in the round» setup, and intimate size make every seat a good one. The shows and cast members are always great, and they have special performances dedicated to children. Ticket prices average $ 45, but make sure to reserve your seat early as most show do get sold out.

New subscribers, we’ve seen Mary Poppins and Cabaret, both were FANTASTIC. I’m super impressed. Got my husband a subscription for Christmas, the process was easy and not too expensive. I’ll recommend this to friends!

We were in town visiting family and my parents were sweet to get us all tickets for their seasonal Nutcracker performance. Parking is so convenient for the theater which makes it the easiest when heading with children as opposed to heading to a downtown performance. As other reviewers have noted, every seat in the theater is good since it is such an intimate setting (reminds me of when I had gone to see a performance of the Lookinglass theater in high school).
It was such a delight with both our six year old and one and a half year old riveted! We were fortunate to have third row tickets and sat in front of the stage. The costumes and music were great and the one hour performance was just long enough. The performers seemed so sweet as well, if only we lived closer we would take our little people here more often!

I came here to see Mary Poppins and it was a great time.
I’ve been to a few plays but this one was pretty good because of the intimacy. It seats a few hundred with a circular orientation. The stage area is in the middle and the audience sits on the edges. This provides for a good view from every seat. The talent moves up and down the aisles throughout the show. There is a fifteen minute intermission at about an hour and fifteen minutes into this particular show. It did run long but it was well worth it. They performed most of the songs and the story line, acting and singing were phenomenal.
I’m not a theater person but this is well worth the experience. This location is the most subscribed theater in the country. Full year packages for all 5 shows are affordable and well worth the money as you end up only paying for 4 total shows.

Impressed! The round theater setup means there’s not a bad seat in the house, but we were lucky enough to score 2^nd row seats to Mary Poppins! We were so close to the stage that my daughter basically thought she was on a playdate with Mary. The show itself was well done too & definitely rivals the Mary Poppins I saw in the city a few years ago.
Thanks to my gps sending me on a little adventure we arrived with just a few minutes before showtime. Fortunately, we were able to make it to our seats on time thanks to the $ 5 valet parking! However, valet parking is not typically necessary since parking is plentiful.
I loved it, my daughter loved it & we look forward to checking out the 2014 season! Or perhaps the Nutcracker before the end of this year!

For anyone who thinks you can’t do the big musicals as theatre-​in-​the-​round, come see a show here and be proven wrong.
I’ve seen numerous shows here — most recently South Pacific. Years ago I saw Les Miserables and was impressed with how the Marriott Theatre can take broadway shows with huge sets and perform them here. At the big proscenium theatres, you can get your big impressive set, but you’re removed from the characters. At the Marriott, there’s not a bad seat in the house, and the smaller stage in-​the-​round creates a sense of intimacy that the broadway touring shows don’t have.
This is why it is excellent for children’s shows (I saw Cinderella when I was little and loved it).
Actors are professional. Scenery is limited but effective. Every director makes sure to block the actors in a way that they are seen by every side of the audience. And although the music is recorded and not live, it is still interesting and engaging.
[Based on the owner comment that the music is played live every performance, I’m clarifying my review: The music *sounds* recorded. The musicians are in an enclosed area unlike in proscenium theatres, where the musicians are in a pit under the stage. I believe this makes the music sound recorded when it comes through the speakers/​amplifiers. Well done, either way].
I would definitely recommend shows here to anyone.

I love live theater. I love musicals. The Marriott Theater may be small, but the performances are quite lovely. It’s theatre-​in-​the-​round and because it’s on the smallish side, all the seats are good and definitely more intimate than the big theater houses I have visited.
There are some great offerings by Marriott Theater, including children’s productions like Cinderella going on right now. I recently saw «My One and Only» and was very impressed with the production – acting, music, singing and dancing. It was very entertaining.
There’s valet parking and a cash bar. There are many restaurants in the area too, so dinner and show make for a very easy date night.

I should have written this review a long time ago as a matter of fact I can’t wait for my next visit in a few weeks!
My sister’s job always takes their employees out to dinner and a play for the holiday and the best thing about that is they get to bring a guest and I have been blessed enough to be my sister’s guest each year!
Now on to the Theater I have enjoyed how intimate the Theater is it’s like you are apart of the play!
The seats are comfortable, the staff is great and the actor/​actresses are impressive!
Although, this is a small production and company you will not know it by the way they engage the audience they make you feel like you are on Broadway Chicago!
This is always one of my favorite places to go to see a play and I can’t wait for my next visit!!!

Went to the Marriott Theater for the first time in years last night; had forgotten how nice and how good a production they do.
We were expecting a perfectly average evening and were so happily surprised to be reminded that you don’t have to venture into the city to see a good show.
We had seen West Side Story, 1776 and Damn Yankees here years ago and they were very good but as happens we got busy with the kids and life in general and just hadn’t been back in a long time. Last night we had the opportunity to see Legally Blonde. The sets were great and so was the acting!
This is a theater in the round venue so it is really hard to find a bad seat. The chairs are roomy and comfortable. Also I appreciate that there is enough room for people to get past you to get to their seat further in.
The parking lot can be a bit hard to exit at the end of the evening so I would suggest trying to park near the exit.

Love the theater and set up. Very small and intimate, no bad seats, VERY friendly and cool support staff, and actually comfortable seats that are not all packed together (to create more seating). Acting was much better than expected, along with the production in general.
Always new the Theater existed, but never bother to check it out … but after all these years we will now plan to map out all the new shows that are upcoming, instead of a hit or miss adventure to the theaters downtown.
