It’s great to have a place to get a cheap massage – IF you are willing to wait weeks and weeks for an appointment because you work during the afternoons and evenings and can’t attend appointments then. I was more than a little nonplussed when I had to wait three weeks for a massage and as I was walking out the door to go to the massage, I got a call saying it was cancelled due to a thunderstorm warning. Then, I had to wait three more weeks for the massage to get rescheduled at a time when I could go. This is ridiculous to me, and I really wish they would have worked around my schedule more so I didn’t have to wait 6 weeks. The massage I received was pretty mediocre, but like I said, it was cheap. I would recommend it if you need or prefer something really cheap, but I imagine the quality of services would be better with a graduated and licensed professional masseuse.

Massage therapy school prices are always preferable to full price… but sometimes it’s kind of a crapshoot whether or not you’ll get the same quality of services. I happened to be in town and in need of a massage appointment. After some quick online research I was very impressed with the sound of Myotherapy’s Synergy Spa and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I arrived too late to enjoy the hot stone massage I had planned for, but the therapist made up time asking which areas specifically to focus on and targeting those effectively. The rules of time travel still apply here. As with any massage worth enjoying, an hour flew by in what felt like ten minutes. The only slightly awkward part was when I was going to leave and I felt like I should have tipped… but didn’t. Now don’t get me wrong, a massage is something I’d normally tip for — and I like to think I’m a good tipper — but I read specifically on their website the following passage… «As a licensed health care profession, such as dentistry or nursing, tipping is not customary – the referral of your friends to our students is the greatest compliment we can receive.» So consider this my referral, so I don’t get karmic retribution. But the lack of tipping policy seemed to be reinforced by the fact that I was asked to pay up front… anyway, if I find myself in Lincoln again, I’ll definitely be hitting up Synergy again. For only $ 30 it was worth every penny.
