I grew up in Lincoln and, returning for the holidays, I didn’t expect much by way of a hotel. The area is remote, about an hour north of Bangor, and a hotel here wouldn’t have to be that great since the audience is more or less captive. So I was very pleasantly surprised by the Briarwood. We rented two adjacent rooms, one for my husband and me and one for the kids(we brought a video monitor, everyone sleeps better this way). The bedrooms were pleasant with beautiful, unique wooden furnishings inside. The appliances(television, microwave, mini fridge, coffee pot) look new and everything is in good repair and works well. This includes the bathroom– no cracked paint, peeling linoleum, or mold. The WiFi is great– we brought our Roku stick in case local cable failed us(which it did, nothing good on) and it worked with no lags. Management was friendly and helpful, and housekeeping refreshed our towels and soaps after night two of a three night stay, which surprised us. They seem eager to make a good impression, and their effort shows. They even have a wooden slide and swing set in the back, and grills available for guests. Coin-op laundry is also available on each floor. The location is also very convenient. It’s the first you’ll encounter on the way into town via the interstate. It’s almost directly opposite Wal Mart, and within walking distance of a dollar store. The guest booklet provides information on numerous local restaurants, and there is a supermarket just down the street. Surprisingly little road noise. We very much enjoyed our stay here!

This year we found the brand-new renovations are great, we use this as a break from camp for some a/c and wifi. The new management is helpful. It’s very convenient from 95 if you’re going further north or east. We discovered it’s also workable if you are temporarily without a car, you can walk to the basics. Everything was very clean and comfortable.

The inn is clean and the new managers are friendly. We are traveling back roads through Maine and stopped here at dusk to avoid driving isolated roads in the dark. The clientele appeared to be a combination of travelers and local workmen. The sawmill next door starts early at 6 am and is noisy.

We stayed here out of panic that we would not be able to find lodging in Bangor on a busy Memorial Day weekend. If you don’t need to stay here, don’t. Neither the motel or the town has anything to recommend it. On the other hand, you could do a lot worse if you really need to be in the middle of nowhere during hunting season. The rooms are big, they have refrigerators and the TV is decent. There is not much ambient noise but the bathrooms are minute and very poorly designed. There is food across the street. It’s a good place for working itinerants and truckers without big rigs. Truth told, we were glad to get the room and would stay here again if it gets too dark on the desolate stretch from New Brunswick to mid coast Maine.

If your looking for posh this is not your place. Try a big city. This place is a motor inn it has clean rooms, friendly staff and guests. Located near gas, wal-mart, and restaurants. For being on a main street the noise is not invasive. Free wi-fi is excellent! It IMO is the best in the local area. We have stayed here every summer for thelast three years.
