That Cooking School

Awesome experience! Just went along with the girlfriend and wasn’t expecting much, but it turned out to be fun and had an absolutely amazing meal at the end of it all! Recommend it for anyone to try!

From an vibrant social experience complete with adult beverages to a festive-​themed learning activity for with the family and kids, THAT Cooking School combines the joy of cooking with art of collective creativity in a classy atmosphere. My family and friends have become «regulars» because it’s a guaranteed wonderful experience fit for any occasion! Love this place!

Amazing place! Great place to learn to cook or to have a private event. The layout of THAT Cooking School allows for everyone to be involved in the cooking classes and depending on the class/​event you can break off into your own station or collaborate and work together on something larger. For private events (benefits, parties, cook offs, etc) there is a large connected room that can be used as a banquet room or anything else you’d need. There is also a bar and a back deck which faces the Mississippi River.
The head chef Bill Niemer is fantastic and is supported at the school by his family and occasionally guest chefs depending on the class. Everyone makes it a very fun and eventful experience!

Great place to learn about cooking! Fantastic head chef! I took a cooking class in March… they started with a salsa making contest and then we made an incredible meal! Very fun and interactive.

I have taken two classes at Chef’s Abode and both have been great! I have been to other cooking schools and what makes Chef’s Abode great is seperate cooking stations where you actually do the preperation and cooking yourself. Instead of just watching the instructors in the front of a room you actually get to learn by doing the cooking. The instructors are great!!! I had Elizabeth Ries from Twin Cities Live and Laurie McCann Crowell of Golden Fig teach one of the classes on flatbreads and soups. The other was taught by Kate Moore of Family Dinner Minneapolis. Kate is high energy and made the class lots of fun! I would highly reccomend taking a class!

My wife and I took the sushi making class and had a great time. We learned a lot, and my wife Frieda few things she said she would never eat. This place is the best for foodies and amateur chefs. I would highly recommend it!

I attended a sushi making class and had a fantastic time! I ate some things that I have previously said I didn’t like so I’m really glad I went. I learned a lot about how much goes into making superior sushi. Excellent place! :)

I just took a macaroons cooking class here last night and it was a BLAST. The teacher was extremely knowledgeable and he and the assistants were SO MUCH fun. It made the class so relaxed and hilarious — although I’m sure the glass of wine helped, too :) By the end of the class the participants were joking around with each other like good ol’ pals. Oh, yeah, and we learned how to make macaroons! And not the gross coconut things you might be thinking of, but the real French delectable cookie treats. I can’t wait to take another class here.
The only thing I would request of them is to have cameras and a tv or two set up over the teacher’s cooking station like at the Kitchen Window classrooms. Although without those cameras it did make the participants get up front and comfy with each other, which isn’t the worst thing in the world.
