I was watching«Eh you da kine ah» last night on OC16, and they had this segment on Richie’s Bar & Grill on Kauai. As I was watching the segment… I was thinking — «I must go & try this place as they had some ono looking grinds» — like the Oxtail Saimin, Spicy Korean Chicken, & Fluffy Pancakes with Coconut Syrup. Well, the«flight gods» were looking out for me today, as a customer of mine had called for service on Kauai. I was thinking«Yay!» Richie’s here I come!!! Upon finishing up the job… it was now time for lunch… I quickly looked up the business address on Unilocal. Upon driving on Umi Street… after driving around, & around, for the life of me… I could not find this place! I finally drive up to this«closed» business that looked like it use to be a restaurant or bar, upon driving up to the front, I see this contractor who was working on the place & asked him if this was Richie’s Bar & Grill? He told me — this use to be — «Richie’s Bar & Grill». Bummer!!! :(I guess the«food gods» weren’t looking out for me today. :( Ended up at the local Taco Bell instead… :(Ugh!

Stopped in here for some food before continuing a day long shopping trip around the island. We were greeted with flat if not negative reception, and we had to show ourselves to a table. Once there, it took a good 15 minutes for anyone to even talk to us, never mind get us drinks or menus. I understand if you’re swamped with customers, but we were literally only the second table occupied in the entire place at the time. The food was confusing to me because I was unsure about some of the lingo, and upon asking for clarification, I was met with thinly veiled contempt from the stunningly gorgeous Hawaiian waitress. Finally giving up, I ordered the Saimin, which my parents also did, and it took forever to be served, at which point I wondered if I even should be eating it. The food itself was fine, no real excitement, and many of the toppings I had no earthly idea what they were, nor would I stretch my neck out to ask. Once we decided we were done, we quickly paid, and left, and all vowed to eat the rest of our meals on our Cruise Ship while in Hawaii!

Came here thanks to Ms. Oki’s(richie’s mom) recommendation, after trying and buying her awesome coconut syrup/haupia mix at the farmers market. So cute, she’s so proud of him! Love it. Bambucha + short stack mac nut pancakes was enough for 4 people. Especially Love the corned beef hash, banana pancakes, and fried rice, but skip the mac nut pancakes. Bambucha = 10 pieces Portuguese sausage, 4 scrambled eggs, 2 pancakes, 4 corned beef hash patties, hashbrowns, 4 scoop rice. Ate like ali’i for $ 34 including tip. And the waitress and Richie were so friendly! They both wanted to make sure everything was going ok at our table, and when these three older ladies came in for breakfast, Richie was so sweet just talking story with them!

Don’t come here at night if you’re not a local. This place was pretty empty, so I was confused about the reviews of this place being bumpin’ when we go there. I got the bento box with salmon, but as soon as the food came, I regretted it — not because it wasn’t good, but because the salmon was TINY. I could have eaten it in two bites. Anyways, it was a chill place and the waitress was friendly. Then we got kicked out because the restaurant was closed, and were then escorted to the bar/club part. It looked pretty cool, but we definitely stuck out like sore thumbs because this was a bar for locals. We stayed for less than 20 minutes and left — we just didn’t feel right being there.

The top of the building there is a sign that says Richie’s bar and grill, and the glass door of the restaurant says Restaurant 2978. Parking lot for easy parking. The two of us ordered an XL Breakfast to share for a mere $ 18.99 — we got the Bumbucha Breakfast which included 4 scoops of fried rice, hash browns, 4 eggs done any way you’d like, 4 corned beef hash balls, a good portion of portuguese sausage, and 2 big pancakes. It was AWESOME. Served on a huge platter. Loved everything on the plate except the corned beef hash — just b/c I don’t really like that normally. But everything else was delicious — and I loved the pancakes! Usually for breakfast I don’t like ordered the sweet dishes like pancakes — but I would definitely get these again if I were to come back. We both have tremendous appetites, and we just barely finished — I think this could normally feed 3 people comfortably. Definitely an EXTRALARGE breakfast! We were full until dinnertime! We were one of two tables in the restaurant on a weekday morning and service was fine… I can see how it would be considered very slow if it was a lot busier but our server was great and she was sweet.

Richie’s is a great local dive. They serve hefty portions of heavy island soul food. The place needs a serious make over. It is dark and dingy inside but the food tastes good and is cheap. Put this on your«cheap eats» list cause it’s a great local favorite for the construction workers of Lihue side of Kauai. They have a bar and the Bud Light on draft is served up ice cold. Breakfast and lunch is fine at Richie’s. I’m not sure about the dinners. I recommend trying other places with a little bit more classy kinda of ambience(out of the«dive» category). Haha. I say that but I wouldn’t mind hanging out with the guys for Monday night football at Richie’s.

They have an awesome breakfast here. So good, we came back 3 times during our week-long vacation in Kauai. Get the Ono fried rice and the omelettes. The macadamian pancakes were OK.

I had so much fun here! I mentioned Unilocal, and I got free garlic fries. They were yummy. The nachos were also delicious. I ordered a couple of other appetizers, and it was standard barfare. The best part of this place was singing karaōke though. They have a really good set up and a lot of songs. My friends and I sang all night with the staff. They were really friendly. The place is pretty small, but it also has a dart machine and pool table. I’m not really into big clubs, so this place was perfect… chill and low key.

We visited Richie’s because of a recommendation from his mother, Barbara Oki. We came for breakfast because the famous Oki pancakes are served. They were as good as everyone said. This gem of a restaurant is 1 block off of Rice Street and appears to be a local favorite. Service can be a little slow at times but the food more than makes up for the wait. I had a pancake breakfast with 2 eggs, two of Oki’s famous pancakes and Portuguese sausage. The breakfast was delicious and was served with Coconut and Maple syrups on the side. If you haven’t tried the coconut syrup, you’re missing it. Richies is not cheap. Our breakfast for two including tip came to $ 32, but considering some choices, there was value even at that price. Bottom Line — Richie’s is on my short list for dining out.

The family was looking for a good place and came across Richie’s through Unilocal. The pictures posted from other fellow Unilocalers sold us on the sushi. We highly recommend the ‘Eternal Sunshine’, although the other rolls we ordered were just as good.. Our table also ordered the lychee BBQ ribs and the meat literally fell off the bone. Honestly, the best ribs and sushi we’ve eaten. Strange combination for a restaurant, but it worked for our group. There were six of us in the party, we ordered sushi, alcoholic drinks, appetizers, and a BBQ special and the bill was right around $ 100 dollars. The service was amazing as well. Momu(I hope I got that right) made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Thank you! Can’t say much for the décor, it was definitely a locals spot, which is exactly what we were looking for. The 5 star is definitely for the food, value, and service.

Holy Moly, I already love this place! I was heading to my bank, on the same street, and my mom & I decided to pop in & give it a try. And we are both SOGLAD we did! It’s new, so I don’t think too many people know about it yet. Spread the word, people! I ordered the Korean fried chicken. It was perfect. Nice & crispy outside, juicy inside, and it came in little strips, so that you have lots of crunchy parts.(So good for you, I know…) The garlic sauce poured over it wasn’t overwhelming & to the point where half the chicken is soggy by the time you get to it. My mom ordered the teri-cheeseburger. It said it came with sautéed mushrooms, & boy, did it ever! First of all, it was a real burger. You remember the kine where they take the ground beef & form it, by hand, into a patty? Honestly, some of you might be too young to remember those… Anyways. And the mushrooms were fresh mushrooms, sautéed with big chunks of garlic. If you don’t like garlic, or are on a date, you should probably tell them to hold the mushrooms. Overall, I think they’re fantastic and I can’t wait to go there again!

Had breakfast and it was marginal at best. Beef on Loco Moco tasted out of date and was inedible. Super nice hostess and server but otherwise a huge #yelpfail

Richie’s is pretty new from what i understand, but definitely one of the best restaurants to eat at in Kauai. do you like sushi? you’ll love the kinds of sushi that Yoshi creates here. try it!(see my pictures) had the fried whole shrimp for appetizer and stuffed pork chop — both were killer. the pork chop is bulbous b/c its stuffed with so much goodness O_O and everything is covered in a nice gravy. the whole shrimps are fried up nice and have a sweet spicy type sauce on top. so good. they have lots of different types of liquor — the sakes are good. the restaurant is also attached to a bar so you can chill out after dinner. try this place if you’re ever in Kauai — so worth it!

From the outside and really, even from the inside, the place doesn’t seem like much. But the food really made our trip worth it. We were hoping to go to Oki’s Diner but it’s CLOSED for good(for now anyway). We called the number listed and it directed us to Oki’s line. Funny enough she suggested that we go to her son’s restaurant Richie’s! So, we took a chance and went there. I ordered the saimin and the hubs ordered the loco moco(which must have been his 6th loco moco on the trip) and for good measure I got the Deep Fried Sour Pickles! Saimin and the loco moco were pretty good, they actually used white gravy instead of the brown gravy over the burger patty. And it was a nice change up for us. What really stood out was the great service and of course the deep friend pickles. They gave us a huge basket and I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to finish it. But surprise surprise, I cleaned it all up. Even asked for extra Ranch dressing because it was so good together. I’m seriously craving it right now!

Since our hotel did not serve food after 10pm, we ventured out into the city of Lihue and found two options for food. Richie’s was one of them and from what we heard, it is one of the newer places in town. So our group, minus a few, decided to give this place a shot. It was that or some late night pancake place that someone in our group stated she had been to before and it didn’t sound so appetizing to any of us. Walking in, it looks like a dive bar, but hey, we were huunnnngry and ready for more drinks(besides the free Mai Tai’s and others we had purchased we had on the plane). They serve food until Midnight and the place was mostly filled with locals, boy did we all get a look(if looks could kill) when we walked in, but after we smiled at a few, they smiled back and all was good. Giggle. In one part of the place they had a pool table and TVs hanging from the ceiling, this is when we found out about the earthquake in Chile, but not the Tsunami warning. Now for the food… OHBOY… If you like deep fried, typical pub food and pupu’s, you’ll definitely like this place! Some of us were adventurous and some of us stuck to known items, which with some still came with an adventure in eating. The girls(‘cept me) had salads… They looked good and there was plenty there that it was hard for any of them to finish. I had a mushroom bacon cheeseburger and it was yummy & the fries were good also(not the typical shoe string fries). OK, thought I was safe… Here comes the adventure… Pickles DEEPFRIED, but good!!! One of the guys had the steak pupu platter and it looked pretty good… Although, after getting to know this guy, I think he could have eaten two of them. Now for the REAL adventurous plate… Deep Fried Bacon with a side of gravy. Even if you REALLLY like bacon, this was WAAYYY too much!!! And the one who ordered it and all of us that tried it agreed. Prices were decent, service was good and I’d definitely suggest going here if looking for a late night food & drink fix!
