we needed a boost in our internet speed at home and i came in to oceanic to see if i could get a different modem for faster speed. thomas helped me out and let me know to bring in my old modem and they’d trade it out with a new modem that can accommodate the faster speed i was looking for. so simple and easy, great customer service. i just had to bring in my old one, go home and plug in the new one. now i can watch streaming on so many devices without it buffering! yay!

Global statement: Cable service for HDTV& internet anywhere on Kauai is terrible compared to the mainland. I visit Kauai 2X per year. I trade into a different time share location every visit. Every place has piss poor standard definition only TV signal. Sometimes my best TV resolution is 480p. Time warp: What year is it on Kauai, 1997? The Oceanic channel guide never resembles where the actual channels are located. Internet speed everywhere is dismally slow when it works at all. I’ve never found a download speed greater than 1meg. In Nor Cal where I live with 2nd tier cable internet service, my speed is 30 meg. Maybe Oceanic is trying to get everyone to hang up their devices in frustration and just go native to the beach, electronics free.

I’ve had to get 3 different cable boxes now so i would say there service isn’t the best but it’s the only choice I really have living on kauai. With dish the connection isn’t the best cause it rains a lot. There’s 1 worker who is very nice and all the others aren’t very nice or welcoming at all.

Customer service is horrible. Stopped in to get internet service for my condo. the condo group already has time warner for their TV. The person at the desk said that with the condo already getting service that I would get a great price, $ 29.99 a month. I agreed to have it installed. After installation the installer asked me to sign his tablet for work completed. I signed a blank page. The bill arrived. $ 45.00. I called and talked to a twit. She only could say is that I signed for it. I did not. Needless to say, I am returning the modem.

Where do I begin of the long list of flaws. The menu setup & guide screen are terrible. The guide screen: If i have a big TV, why can’t the guide menu be as big as the TV screen? The guide is half the size of my screen therefore, it doesn’t fully show all the TV show titles. For example it’ll say: «How I Met Yo» . The channel setup is ridiculous. For example, If I’m paying for HD channels, I don’t want to see the regular non-HD channels on my guide let alone on a completely separate area in the guide. It’s too hard to maneuver and remember the channels. DirecTV has a way to remove the duplicates, whereas Oceanic does not. Oceanic does have a way to retrieve HD channels only but then what if I want to see the other channels that aren’t HD that i like? I also want the HD channels to be simple. How about channel 2 or 4 or 7 or 11. The less digits the better. DirecTV has channel 2& channel HD-2, etc. They do have a way to set up favorite channels, but this is insane. You basically have to remember or write down the channels you like & enter them manually on a separate screen. The receiver box is from the 1990’s. Their most updated box looks like an oversized black alarm clock. It’s in the living room, but guess what? Not only does it look ancient, but it also cannot be faced straight at you. It has to be turned so that there is no glare on the front. WTF? It’s a good thing we have a TV stand with shelves that are able to hide the glare. Makes no sense, I know. Then the digits to the channels are so long that the receiver messes up constantly. I’ll try and enter 1008 and it’ll enter 008 or 10 or 008, etc. Most of the time it takes me 10 tries to enter channel 1008. SO frustrating. The remote: HORRIBLY unergonomical! It’s slippery, it’s got no comfortable grip, there’s a million tiny awkwardly shaped buttons all crammed together. I like to use the page up and down while browsing the guide because it’s faster. Why does this company make this button so small and skinny and long and sort of crescent mooned-shaped, and in the strangest spot on the remote? So cheaply made. The buttons are also not strategically placed. I’m constantly pressing buttons I don’t mean to. Then, you have to point the remote directly at the receiver to get the remote to work & must be about a foot in front of the receiver. I also want to point out that beware when recording certain NFL games or any sports for that matter & it goes into OT, it will just suddenly stop recording unless you remembered to pre-program it beforehand. It doesn’t even offer to go over the scheduled time like Directv does when you hit record. How lame is that when the most important part of the game suddenly just runs out on you. Ugh. one of the cons of living in a condo in Kauai.
