To start, the drive out there is gorgeous and that alone makes it worth the trip. I’m in Lexington with my husband for the week — he’s here for work, I’m just tagging along — and I’ve been flying solo for most of my time here. With this being my first trip here, I’m desperately trying to figure out what to do and where to go in order to 1, keep me myself and I fairly busy, and 2, to be sure that I make the most of my time here. So this was one of the things on my todo list, and I’m so glad it was. The setting is AMAZING. amazing. I happened to be the one and only person there, and being that I was alone to begin with, it was pretty nice to have free range of the place while I was there. I found the tasting room which is located in a historic house that’s over 200 years old(the story behind it is cool, but I’m not here to tell stories) and it’s really nice. The guy was working inside was really friendly and knowledgable about not only the history of the property, but also just Kentucky in general. We had an awesome conversation about bourbon, Kentucky, the area, and he gave me some great suggestions on other places to go to fill my time while I’m here. So after my tasting, I did my self guided tour through the vineyards, and even though I was alone, I REALLY enjoyed myself. It was so peaceful and beautiful, and it was nice to just walk around and enjoy the scenery. Of course I had my camera with me so I was able to get some really great pictures without worrying about being in someone’s way, or having strange people in my pictures. I was able to take my time and do whatever I wanted. I also met an older gentleman who was walking with his dog(he said he was a retired veteran who brings his dog to the vineyards twice a day to walk), and we had a great conversation. it’s amazing who you’ll meet and what you’ll experience when you’re brave enough to venture out on your own and you open yourself up to whatever may happen :) I ended up purchasing 2 bottles of wine and 2 wine glasses, and was able to spend some time outside enjoying the country side of Lexington!

This place is a gem! I’m not a huge wine guy, but this place is a lot of fun, very inviting, and boasts some great-tasting wines. I came with my girlfriend for a tour during the week. We found out that the tour is self-guided, which was actually pretty nice and made the overall visit more tranquil. We took our sweet time and had a blast exploring the facility on our own. Since we went during the week, it was very nice and quiet. We came back to the«house» for a wine tasting. We were smart, and split up the list so we could try most of the wines. They were amazing!(and only came to about $ 1 per taste; generous pours) I sadly cannot remember the exact names of the wines, but the reds, whites, and specialties were all fantastic. The reds we had were almost like a blend between a red and a white. I’m more fond of red, she’s more fond of white, but we both hit a home run with their red that acts like a white. Although I cannot remember the name, just do what we did and ask the bartender for wine advice. The young kid we had knew A LOT about all the wines, and his recommendations were spot on. But make sure you try the Chocolate Strawberry wine… it is out of this world!!! I came a 2nd time to buy some bottles to go(on a Saturday this time), and there was a HUGE«party» going on at the winery. Apparently, this is a typical weekend here: food, wine, music, and people. I didn’t stay long, but it looked like an awesome time. Bottom line: take a tour, try some wines, buy a bottle to go, and repeat. Bonus points for hitting up one of their Saturday parties.

What a great place in Lexington to have a nice relaxing evening with wine and live music and the scenery is just gorgeous!!! The woman that did our tasting I cannot remember her name but she was so wonderful! The tasting bar is a great little area that is cozy and you kind of don’t want to leave ha! The cost is $ 5 for 6 tasting and than you can taste anything after that for $ 1 a taste. Way cheaper than I was expecting that is for sure! After you can buy a bottle or two or whatever and go outside to the covered patio or the picnic tables and enjoy your purchase! On Friday and Saturday evening from 6−8pm they have live music so it really was quite enjoyable evening with the hubby! I noticed on our way out that in the barn they were having a wine and canvas night which is a fabulous idea and something I will look into doing with some friends another night!

This place is such a cool fusion of an archetypal Kentucky farm and Californian vineyard. You can take a brief, exploratory jaunt through the vineyard and around the barns a gazebos after doing your wine tasting. The tastings are incredibly well organized– taste whatever you want for just a dollar per tasting glass! I love this so much more than a pre-set tasting menu because you can pick just the wine in which you are interested. This place is great for a quick start to a dinner date. Also, outside, there was a couple operating a wind-powered go-cart attached to a parachute, and they flew several tours around the farm, which was entertaining to watch.

My husband and I went here for our first«Kentucky» date and ended up getting married here in May so I may be a little biased with my four stars! Great space during the spring summer and fall. They have music outside during the warm weather and you can bring outdoor food, patio chairs and enjoy some wine, music, and scenery!

I was married there on March 28th, 2015, and the wedding venue itself was gorgeous but there are underlying issues. Due to the weather my wedding was inside the barn as well as the reception. My father paid for the venue, you pay half up front, then the other half a month before the wedding. The first payment was ok to be taken on a card, the second payment was demanded to be paid in check form. I personally thought that was shady. As having your wedding there you have to buy a case of their wine, which is fine but not when they are shady about the remaining alcohol. We bought an allotted amount for the reception, and once that ran out we were told there would be Bud Light, Budweiser, and Bud Light Lime. The bartender informed my guests at the wedding that it was their mistake and they mis ordered the Bud Light. Not to mention my wedding started at 630pm and alcohol was being served at 6 so I got to walk down the aisle watching people drink! So when I approached Paige the Event Coordinator about the situation she seemed appalled until she talked with the bartenders. When the Bud Light situation was brought to her attention, she said that was her fault that she didn’t tell me on Friday when we were decorating. Paige called me back and blamed the bartenders starting to serve alcohol at 6(even though previously she seemed so appalled because in the notes it was specifically written to start serving at 7) because of our parents and the groomsmen wanting alcohol. So now it’s my fault that the alcohol was served early. She then stated that their bartenders were in the rafters taking down my decorations, and yes that was because he offered and went up there on his own. No one asked him, he did it out of kindness. It get’s better, she then stated that she was so sorry that the alcohol is what ruined my wedding. It then came to my attention that she was becoming unprofessional and catty, and I had to end the conversation. I was offered a 20 person wine tasting to compensate, for my wedding day…

This is lovely winery. One of my favorites in the BllueGrass. A nice tasting room. One of the things I like about the winery is the many special events throughout the year. Go for a wine tasting and find your favorite. I tasted the new red«bourbon barrel wine» straight from the barrel today, and I’m looking forward to its unveiling in March, and a glass on the porch.

This is a beautiful vineyard/tasting room. However, the girl doing the tastings was a little clueless(She said she likes adding Sprite and ice to the wine here). There is a huge covered outdoor seating area so I assume that during the summer they have events and bands playing. The wines themselves are hit or miss(as are most wines). It’s personal preference. I like the drier, bolder wines, and Talon is not the best place for that style. It’s more sweet and fruity. In fact, the girl described one of their roses as «our version of white zin».

This winery was a true delight. The grounds were beautiful, in fact while we were there a wedding was taking place. We attended a tasting which was $ 5 for 6 tastings. The wine was very unique with a wide variety of tastes. My wife and I favored the whites as we usually do. The workers were very friendly. There was a live band and hot food on the grill. I am not sure if the band and food are regular offerings, so you may want to check before you go, but the wine and vineyard is worth the visit.

I really enjoy going to this winery. Their grounds are beautiful and guests are welcome to explore on their own as much as they want. My toddler LOVES running up and down the vineyard rows. I enjoy many of their wines(some I don’t particularly care for, but that’s going to be true of most wineries since individual taste varies), and feel their tasting is priced extremely well. You get to select 6 wines to taste for $ 5 and each tasting is pretty generous. I’ve gone to other wineries in the area that are more expensive and/or have the tasting selections determined for you, and I like being able to select my own. The staff is always friendly and service is very good. Talon seems to always have a Groupon available, which makes their prices GREAT, but without a Groupon, I do think the prices are a little bit high. I do prefer Talon to many of the other wineries in the area though, and enjoy going there every few weeks during nice weather.

This review won’t be about the tour since I haven’t taken it yet. Our friends got married here about 8 yrs ago and it made a great Spot for a nice small gathering. My visit the other day was to support the Ky children’s hospital cancer survivor benefit. It was a great backdrop and great weather for the outside event. I would like to go back and try a tour sometime Soon

I love this place! The vineyards are beautiful and the grounds are kept so well! They have a wonderful selection of wines and it’s hard to pick a Favorite. If you are a red fan I would try the equestrian series. If you are looking for a really sweet refreshing wine I would recommend something like blue grass blush. I could go on and on about the wines I love! They have this really great event called«Jazz on the Porch» that I enjoy going to over the summer. Free jazz music on the lawn and you can go wine tasting and purchase wine by the bottle or by the glass! It’s great!

This winery is located on a beautiful spot. The décor is lovely as are the workers. They gave great recommendations! For $ 5 you can taste six different wines. It was a wonderful stop on our way out of Lexington. The workers were setting up for a wedding while we were there but still gave us full attention. I would definitely stop again.

I’m not a wine connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination, so when my friend asked me if I wanted to do a wine tasting, I just thought it would be fun and(hopefully) not too pricey. The second part was definitely true — we spent a little over $ 5 for six tastings — but the service was just so mediocre. We pretty obviously had no idea what was going on, and the guy definitely treated us accordingly — he didn’t really explain anything to us or engage us in conversation about the winery or the wines at all. Just pour, drink, pour, drink… It just ended up being pretty boring, when I was hoping it would be at least a little educational.

Talon Winery is awesome! I went here for a wine tasting with a few of my friends. The staff was very nice and knowledgable. I stuck with reds and I wasn’t disappointed. I had to buy a bottle of the Equestrian Series III because it was just so delicious. The location is very nice. Lots of room to hang out outside if the weather cooperates. The day we went they had a rock cover band playing on their porch. Really neat.

Wanted to visit a Winery in the Lexington area and this came up on the Unilocal.Felt like it got great reviews so thought we should try it. As soon as we pulled up, I really loved the view. The tasting room was inviting and cozy. The staff was extra friendly and knowledgeable. I felt like he took the time to explain each wines. We did the $ 5.00 tasting which you get to try 6 different wines. I ended up trying 8. They had complimentary cheese with crackers and chocolate, which paired great with most wines. I am more of a dry red wine drinker, but enjoyed the whites(very refreshing). Their wines are very smooth and I ended up buying three bottles. You do not get the wine glass with the tasting. It is $ 5.00 extra. I will definitely come back. There is a nice patio with shading area in the back. The landscape is very beautiful which you can kick back and enjoy your wine. I want to come back. If you are in the Lexington area looking for a Winery, I would hit this place first. Great experience.

Another stop on my Tour de Bluegrass with my friend who traveled from out of state. Overall feel of the winery: the topography is a bit too flat. But I understand we are in the middle of Kentucky and we weren’t going to see the rolling hills of grape vines fighting for a foothold amongst the rocks. What we saw were huge spans of grassy fields, with the rows of grapes on one side and a big tractor mowing grass on the other side. There is a white farmhouse that serves as the tasting room and gift shop. There are a few picnic tables under the trees. Tranquil, traditional country setting, yes. Winery? I’m still trying to piece the picture together on that one. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. My friend and I enjoyed their drier white wines more than the other wines. There were a couple of reds that we really wanted to spit out. I liked their traminette the best: light, fruity, not sweet yet not dry. We also liked this tasty homemade cheese spread that contains the Sweet Breeze wine. Nice side trip if you happened to be in Lexington. But I do not have plans on making the drive just for the winery. I can buy the traminette from local stores.

My friend got a Groupon for Talon Winery for wine tasting, tasting glasses and a bottle of wine! The winery is ADORABLE! They have a cute gift shop. I only wish I needed something from there so I could buy something cute! One of the managers was our wine server and he did a great job with us! Like he should, he knew about the wines and gave great recommondations! We loved their Blackberry wine(which he said we would) and the Chocolate Strawberry! The best part… we got NEW wine glasses to take home. most places you get the ones you used! SOLD! :) I would definately check it out in the summer time when they have live music!

Talon Winery sits just minutes from downtown Lexington, yet you feel like you are miles from anything. Six varieties of grapes grow on 5 acres and produce around 15 — 18 different types of wine for sale. Rolling hills and old barns make it very picturesque and peaceful. This is a self-guided tour, so if you come on a nice day, you can wander at your leisure. 2 little gazebos to sit and rest are located at either end of the vineyard. Signs are posted to describe everything from why they use the trellis system they use, to the harvesting pad, the corking complex, and the barrel room. When you are through you come back to the tasting room and gift shop(which is in a resorted 1790’s home once owned by Isaac Shelby who was the first governor of Kentucky) For $ 5 you are able to taste 6 wines of your choosing(which are pretty decent sized amounts), and a seventh, their premium wine called Estate Cabernet Sauvingnon. We sampled a variety of whites, roses and reds, and finally deciding on 3 bottles to buy. The prices range from $ 9.50 to $ 49.95 per bottle. Oh yeah and the more you buy, the better the discount. 5% discount when you purchase 3, 7% on 6 and 10% on a case of 12. A very cool place, especially if you are like me and tire of the bourbon quickly!
