Awesome ribs best in Lexington will definitely go back. Went on a recommendation from a man in therapy and he was spot on. They need to teach the rest of Lexington how to cook ribs never had any taste this good. Every other Friday they have them if you have never been you are missing out. great staff

Found this place after moving to the area about a month ago. Normally the little hole in the wall BBQ places are the best but not this one! The servers seem to get to you pretty quickly but the food is pretty sub par.

I wish I could rank it higher — but can not. The wait staff is friendly, but the place has NO ambience – and the food is bad.

Discovered Stameys about 15 yrs ago then about 5 yrs ago moved a few miles from the restaurant. It had always been my favorite bbq place in Davidson county. Over the last 2 yrs or so the prices have gone up and the food quality has gone down. We continued to eat here out of convenience once every few weeks. Recently I stopped by for breakfast as there were two Veterans leaving with their service dogs who were seemingly very well behaved & clean. Once they left the waitresses spent the next 30 mins talking trash about these men to the point they weren’t actually looking after their customers. I waited 10 mins with an empty coffee cup & no condiments while three women wiped off tables moaning about the Veterans & their dogs. Never again will I darken the doorstep of a business with such disrespectful, inattentive staff & mediocre food.

Been dropping by here since I was in little, but growing up here in the middle of no-where of Tyro it isn’t that hard. Kids like the home fries no matter the time of day. I like the ‘pig tails’ which are curly fries. At breakfast time the biscuits are pretty decent and nice to grab one to go on the way into work.

My family used to go to this one a lot but apparently, they’re run by idiots. They screwed up my father’s order once & then argued with him when he pointed this out. NOT good customer service, folks. We happened by this location in a mad rush to get actual decent tasting hush puppies for my husband before I was leaving town. My sister was able to get some for me even though they had all their lights off 10 minutes before closing. As others have mentioned, this place is totally in the boonies. They do sell merchandise there as well. The dining room is about average sized and parking here is okay though if it gets crowded, you could have a hard time finding a space. They don’t have a separate section for take out/to go orders that I recall.

Like other reviewers, I have to say that Stamey’s isn’t my favorite barbecue restaurant either. That being said this is the original«Stamey’s Barbecue» from which the ones in the larger Triad cities leverage their names, so there is quite a bit more to the place than a first glance by out of towners who expect a unified«Lexington style» of Q. ** Stamey’s in Tyro is the grandfather of all barbecue joints in this area where many of the other owners of now more successful(whether from location, better press, or experimentation with the formula) barbecue restaurants got their start. ** This place, in one form or another, has been in business for over 80 years. One should not run down this place without having tried it with an eye to its history. The sauce is a little thicker than your average Lexington style, seeming more Memphis-style in and flavored more with black pepper than with red. The vital aspect is that the meat is pit cooked over hard wood coals. The red barbecue slaw is some of the best around, somewhat outshining the barbecue itself, in my opinion. Stamey’s takes the more traditional route of chopping up plenty of the marinated pork skin and a bit of pork fat in their barbecue which gives the meat a richer taste, but makes the texture suffer a bit at times. If you prefer course chopped barbecue, this style may not be the way you’d want as the«extra» bits are more pronounced, but if you like flavorful finely chopped meat, this may be your cup of tea.

I ate here on the way back from Charlotte because I wanted to try a Lexington barbecue restaurant. I have eaten at many barbecue places and never saw the option of chopped or coarse bbq, so we ordered both. Chopped is what I’m used to and coarse is big chunks of bbq meat. The chopped soaks up the flavor of the sauce more than the coarse. The sauce was hotter than I prefer and also a bit sweet. The cole slaw was reddish, which I’m not sure if it is tomato or something else. I found it to be pleasant and different and I did enjoy it. I wouldn’t say this is my favorite bbq though.

This is probably not a place that we would have come across on our own — a little too far out of the way. But we happened to be on our way back from the Raleigh area and an elite event, and also wanting to try out a coupon from , and the worlds matched up perfectly. Of course, «perfectly» isn’t always just that. We did have to do a bit of searching to actually find the place. It’s not like you can just get off the freeway and pull into a fast food lot. But that wouldn’t have been much fun, you know? When we did find the restaurant — not hard when you manage to get to the little town of Tyro — you should be impressed by the service. Glasses are kept full and food comes out quickly. Even better is that prices on the menu are low, low, low. The only downside to that is that using the coupon is really hard(you have to meet a minimum). As to the food — it’s not bad at all. This isn’t the best barbecue I’ve had, but it’s far from the worst. The servings are monstrous. We ate and ate and ate some more and still had plenty to take home. We even ordered desserts, trying to meet the minimum. If you happen to be in the Tyro area — which may be a bit of a stretch, I realize — then stop in. If nothing else, you’ll be pleased at the size of your bill.

First of all, this little BBQ joint is owned by a Stamey, but it is not a Stamey that is connected with the Greensboro Stameys or their BBQ operation there. The BBQ is cooked over hickory coals, and they cook only shoulders. It has a little bit of a smokey flavor, and is tender, and moist. They tend to over-sauce it in the kitchen for my tastes, and the red slaw is simply not good BBQ slaw, it tends to over power the pork The sauce is a typical Lexington sauce with a little more heat than most. They serve a white slaw which I would order instead. The BBQ chicken served on week ends is really nice, but I do not rate their fried chicken all that highly, nor do I care for their hot dog because the chili has too much of a tomato taste, thus is slightly sweet. The service was not the quickest. This is not terrible Lexington style BBQ, but there simply are better BBQ restaurants in this part of the state.
