I came to this place due to a Groupon and I was sure glad I did. The food here is phenomenal, you’re typical southern style home cooking. There’s a buffet for $ 7.95 daily, but be sure to call and see when they’re open, the door says daily until 3pm and on this app it says until 7pm. I believe it’s everyday until 7 pm, but maybe the buffet is over @3. I forgot to ask to be certain. Overall, all the food was super delicious, I stuffed myself into gluttony. Come here, but first check for groupons to this spot.

Went for Sunday brunch buffet. Had children working. The place was very dirty. Booths were all dirty. Kitchen looked dirty. Trays were greasy and they had paper plates. My drink even had floaters in it. The family running it seemed nice but it needs to be cleaned up

On the plus side, it is home-cooked country food. But the place feels like it is run by amateurs. Some good dishes(fried chicken, vegetable soup), some questionable ones, and many just middle of the road. I really did not like the cole slaw. The chili was ok but the soggy noodles ruined it for me. Maybe I’ll try it this place more time before I write it off as 2 stars. Can envision it not lasting much longer, but perhaps other people like it more than me.

First visit today for their buffet. It was pretty good; but, not outstanding except for the chicken, which was very good. Lots to choose from and very reasonable prices makes it popular. Worth a try if you’re in the area.

Desperate for breakfast and facing an impossibility long wait at Winchell’s, we stumbled upon this place. We walked in to find the place empty(should have heeded this as a warning), but we are big fans of «home style» southern cooking so we decided to give it a shot. I’m all about a good southern breakfast, but the buffet consisted of food that looked like it had been sitting out for hours — even though they had just opened for the morning. The eggs were made from a powdered mix. I wish we had turned around and left after seeing the«quality» of food at the buffet, but instead we were foolish enough to continue. The décor is lacking, and generally unclean. We were met by fruit flies at our table. The lighting was terrible(perhaps they should try replacing a few of the many burnt out bulbs), but maybe that’s to keep you from getting a good look at the food. The food was mostly just gross. For the privilege of two meals and two drinks, we were charged almost $ 25. I would be shocked if this place lasts much longer, but if it does you’ll be better off finding a better — and probably cheaper meal somewhere else.

My wife and I were looking for something new to us to eat for lunch. We decided to stop in Ruby Jean’s and I’m glad we did. The food was southern and made from scratch. It was very good. We will definitely be back and we’ll recommend it to our friends and family. The staff was courteous and very nice to talk to. Price was reasonable for all you can eat buffet.

Can we say yummy!!! When I think of comfort food, I think of my granny’s cooking, peach cobbler, roast beef, mac and cheese etc and I must say Ruby Jean’s was close to the comfort food I grew up with. I was driving around looking for a place to eat and I came across Ruby Jean’s in the Southland area. The staff were so nice. There was a buffet with all the comfort favorites, stuffing, mac and cheese, salad, fried chicken, cat fish, bread pudding with bourbon sauce, broccoli cassarole etc. I don’t eat catfish so one of the staff members made some salmon patties for me which were extremely delicious. My favorites were the mac and cheese, broccoli cassarole, and salmon patties. This is a great place to try if you want southern comfort food, and it wasn’t salty or packed with grease which is a plus!

Ordered through online with LexEatIn. Had the sauerkraut and sausage. Reminds me of my moms cooking growing up! Love it!

Last Sunday I decided to come in and try Ruby Jean’s Sunday brunch buffet. I had not heard anything about the restaurant but I like trying new places in town, and I like buffets, so I thought the brunch buffet would be a good way to try a sampling of their menu. I just wasn’t very impressed with the food, nor the restaurant. We walked in and no one was up front to greet us or tell us where to sit. We stood there for a few minutes until someone came over to explain that we could sit anywhere and the silver wear and drinks were self-serve near the buffet. There was also no indication of the price or whether drinks were included or anything. So we got our drinks and took a trip through the buffet line. They had typical southern breakfast foods and fried chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw etc. My favorite was the coleslaw. It was actually very fresh and tasty. Everything else, though, looked like it’d been sitting out all day. Some of it was pretty tasty, like the coleslaw, Mac and cheese, sausage gravy, bacon. But it just didn’t seem like good quality stuff. And certainly not healthy. Although I wasn’t expecting anything healthy so I can’t say I was let down on that. Everything was exactly as I expected. For two people the bill came to $ 24.95. I’m not sure if there was an option to not have the soft drink or if it was just included in the price. I felt like it was too much money for cheap foods. I wouldn’t come back myself, but I would recommend it to someone else only if they wanted a southern greasy breakfast. For what it is, it’s okay.

Food is awesome! Not much of an atmosphere but the food is so good it doesn’t matter! Would highly recommend!

Fantastic. The place is spotless. Food is great. Employees are friendly. Atmosphere is lacking if your into that. I had the hot brown casserole and it was great. The ice tea was delicious. Being an avid tea drinker i am picky. Prices are reasonable.

There are five of us guys from our office that have eaten there once a week for the last couple of months. The food is always good and the portions are large enough to make you want to nap in the afternoon. We have yet to have a bad meal and love the fact that the cafeteria style restaurant is still alive in Lexington. From fried chicken to meatloaf and turkey and dressing with a ton of sides, this place will fill you up.

Tried to eat there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Sign said closed but there were a bunch of cars and bikes in the front. We were very rudely told that the restaurant was closed for a private event. No explanation and no sign on the door. Just go away. Will never darken the door again.

I was visiting Nicholasville from North Dakota and was looking for a nice«non-chain» place for Sunday brunch. Ruby Jeans must be the best kept secret in the Lexington area! Not only as the food delicious but there was a great selection with fresh scrambled eggs and hash browns being served up! My girlfriend and I loved it, she is a long time transplant in KY! I had my first collard greens ever and they were great! Reminds me of a small town diner back home! Staff was super friendly as well!

As a resident of Southland I try to keep my money close to home and especially support small business. I was excited to see a new café opening up and so I went in to check it out for lunch around 1pm on a weekday. There was 2 – 3 people sitting and the hostess type person was having a conversation with a woman who had walked in a few minutes before me with her child. I stood patiently waiting at the front table as I wasn’t sure what to do(sit, wait to be seated etc.). Two young girls came in after me and were standing there waiting. The hostess after a few minutes finished up with with the other customer, and came back to the front where she said hello but was looking at the girls behind me. She stepped behind the table/hostess stand and proceeded to speak to the girls behind me, it was like I wasn’t even there! I felt totally ignored. It appeared as though she knew them but if you are a new business it might make sense to at least make the attempt to welcome potentially new customers as well as your friends. Needless to say I did not try the food but left and spent my money elsewhere.
