I wish I could give 3.5 stars! The rooftop patio makes this place! The food was good but very under seasoned. I wanted to go in the kitchen and yell salt like Gordon Ramsey! It could be an excellent restaurant. The risotto was not cooked properly(too dry), but the shrimp was excellent. The chicken picatta and calamari were pretty good(minus the salt issue). The waitress underwhelmed us at first with her absolute lack of knowledge with the wine menu. She couldn’t even explain the wine on the specials menu. But other than that service was good and they kept our water glasses full. The bread needs an upgrade to a fresh Italian style bread. The dessert menu had eight items and only one made in house– the limoncello cheesecake– it was pretty good. Again this place has great potential and we would try it again. If nothing else, enjoy the patio and cocktails!

Only one entrée choice for vegetarians, and it was not so good. Got the vegetable fettucine and there were not enough veggies, not enough cheese, and just overwhelming amounts of plain-tasting pasta. And the mojitos were way too sweet. Okay service and ambience, but definitely not a remarkable meal.

We have eaten dinner at Rocca several times and have enjoyed it each time. The staff is friendly and accommodating, especially Grant(the host). It’s really nice to sit outside and see and hear Main Street. Go before 6 for Happy Hour!

Located on Main Street in Lexington, VA this is the kind of place I wish existed when I was a cadet at VMI. Shockingly good Italian-style food in a modern setting. Prices were very reasonable and it was a great addition to the Robert E. Lee Hotel. The happy hour offerings were quite good and the bar area looks like a great place to visit even if you are not a guest at the hotel.

Lunch. It was ok. I think they have padded their dishes in fancy terminology to look good however the food does not live up to the terminology. It was ok as I said & good for Lexington. I will return & try dinner at some point. The squash cream cup of soup was very good however we had to keep asking for bread. Finally got three sticks. The lasagne was good as was the burger my son got. The pasta was ok but the chicken big & tough to eat.

My wife and I asked to be seated at a nearly empty balcony but were refused The hostess explained that all the tables were reserved though only four or so were occupied. We went to the bar and had a drink. After 45 minutes I asked the hostess again if we could sit outside since by now the balcony was almost completely empty. When I suggested that there must have been a number of cancellations and could we please sit outside. The hostess, without explanation, gave me a dirty look and walked away. We left, somewhat bewildered, and went across the street to eat dinner. I don’t get it…

The oysters on the half shell rocked! There is a limited selection of beers on tap, 4, but they are all from the immediate region. Calamari was great, but the dipping sauce was a bit bland, not a remoulade alike you would expect. Service was great! Will definitely return when I am back in town.

Amazing soup, salad and pasta dish. Everyone loved their meal. Outstanding! This restaurant should have a line out the door! Top value. I will be a regular.

So excellent! Long drive from Chicago. Looked up a place to eat; at time had rating of 3.5. Others we looked at were 4; however the menu comparison did not make since in this view so came here. So pleased with the outside setting w balcony experience and food was excellent. Wife– scallops, myself, chicken piccata.

The food was good but the service was lacking. They need a larger waitstaff for sure. I got the lasagna and my boyfriend got the Italian burger. He said it was good but a little dry and he wasn’t crazy about the bun(which I think was supposed to be the impressive part — some sort of house made Italian bread). The lasagna was good not great. They are trying to pass for more upscale than they can really pull off. The staff were very friendly but too busy to be good at their jobs. They were aware, however, and took 10% off of our bill without us even complaining. If I lived in the area I’d probably give them another chance.

Ambience was great. Service was ok. Food was very bland. Other Unilocalers mentioned they could make better chicken Marsala. I agree. The chicken piccata was tasteless as well. Italian is one of my favorite types of food; however I will not be returning to this restaurant. Nor would I recommend. I also had strong stomach cramps shortly after returning home.

Delicious food! Everything was very well prepared, cooked to perfection, and looked beautiful on the plate. The only issue was the very slow service. At one point, we thought he may have forgotten about us! He was nice, just not very efficient.

Superb setting on second story outdoor balcony! Indoor dining also available which was upscale with cloth napkins and crisp white tablecloths. Outdoor balcony Overlooks distant mountains. Service at lunch was prompt, friendly and courteous. Lemony«rasata«pasta dish was one of the most flavorful and unique I’ve ever had anywhere. Wide linguini in a Creamy lemon sauce with shaved zucchini, carrot and yellow squash. Added grilled shrimp. Topped with chunks of aged Parmesan. Simply an amazing dish with wonderful flavor. A perfect sized portion and was a great value for lunch at $ 20. Wine list provided many choices for any palate and was very reasonably priced. Nice outdoor ambiance and an extensive lunch menu make this a top choice if visiting Lexington VA. Don’t miss it.

After a day rambling through the back roads of Virginia, we checked in to a local B&B. Our hostess recommended Rocca, so we headed over hoping for a delightful meal. We were seated quickly at a table on the patio. There were other tables in use, but it was not overcrowded. Two servers were in the area, but no one brought us water or silverware or asked us for a drink order. Well, we waited. And we waited. And we waited some more. Finally, my husband called the reservation desk(which we could see from the table where we sat waiting). Several minutes later, one of the servers, who had passed by our table at least 12 times, stopped to get our order. Our food was good, but nothing special. There is plenty of choice in town, so if we ever stop in Lexington again, we will choose somewhere else for dinner.

I was so hopeful! A letdown in every way! Service was unbelievably bad and the food was inconsistent. One dish was not edible. It took 2.5 hours to eat in a restaurant that was 1⁄3 full! The waitress even told us the kitchen was backed up! Do yourself a favor and try one of the other decent and good restaurants on Main Street like Southern Inn or Bistro on Main.

Fantastic meal and service. My group all liked their meals, drinks, and desserts. They have a nice bar or outdoor balcony seating if you like. No kids menu. I had a lamb and gnocchi stew that was a dinner special: it was really good I would have licked the bowl but my mother was at the table. My daughter had lasagna. Mom had fish and scallops that were good.

Located in a beautiful historic hotel all i can say is… FANTASTIC! Start-to-finish, this was a great dining experience. I can honestly say that our pasta dishes were exceptional and reasonably priced. The drink special was a cucumber and basil gin and tonic. Wow! It was delicious and well worth $ 9. We skipped appetizers because we had eaten on the road. My son had Chicken Picatta and he said it was the best he’d ever had — priced not much more than at Olive Garden, but infinitely more delicious. I had the Lemon Pasta with veggies and the taste is different but also delightful. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and we left satisfied but not stuffed. The desserts looked amazing and the guests were gushing about them around us. I will definitely eat here again!

We enjoyed great happy hour specials at Rocca. Nice selection of DOCG wines, and our favorite DBIPA on tap. Our server was very friendly. I really enjoyed the cheese plate– a taste of all elements together had a great flavor. I found it to me more hearty than other Main Street cheese plates and indicative of an Italian pairing. The calamari flavor reminded us of hot wings… Our only surprise on the bill was the $ 5– split plate fee. It’s not on the menu and we were testing items so only ordered one pasta… This is a nice addition to Main Street and the Lexington restaurant scene. I recommend hitting their happy hour drink and appie options.

I’m so happy we stumbled upon this treasure. It’s located on the second floor of the Robert E. Lee Hotel. I recommend sitting outside in nice weather– it was beautiful to look down on Main Street in the evening. We ordered what I think was the best artichoke dip I’ve ever had. Artichokes mixed with kale and mascarpone cheese and what seems a drizzle of fresh lemon, was topped with toasted croutons; it was served with cheese toasted cracker shards. Additionally, the tiramisu just melted in your mouth, layer by layer, without any sogginess or hardness that frequently afflicts this dessert. I hope that more people find out about this hidden gem. Since the restaurant is not street level, it may not be apparent to those passing by looking for a nice meal. I recommend a sign be placed outside that refers to people to the second floor.
