Everyone else’s words of advice here on Unilocal is spot on. Here’s the skinny: this place is basically a KFC with some dang good white breast chunks. Everyone told me to try the breast chunks when I could. I finally gave it a shot. I paid $ 5.84 for food that was done almost after I paid. I feel the amount of food I got for the price was pretty low. I assumed this combo came with a biscuit, but mine did not, so I already started this meal pretty disappointed. The mashed potato sides I got were mediocre; not bad but nothing to write home about(just on Unilocal). But those breast chunks were indeed juicy and delicious. I had some honey and hot sauce that I threw on here, and it just made it better. As for the atmosphere, it’s what you expect for a fast-food chicken joint. Just think KFC. It’s also located on a super busy corner, so that isn’t working in its favor for entering and exiting easily. This place isn’t bad. People aren’t lying about the legit white breast chunks. But you can do better. Try Richie’s(more food for less money).

My first thought on eating this the first time was, huh it’s so much like KFC. From the reconstituted whipped potatoes to the brown pepper gravy etc…, although I will say the regular batter is closer to extra crispy at KFC without being too thick. Turns out after looking at the bag they list a history of this Lee guy helping start KFC and working there for like 7 years before leaving. It all makes sense.

This location if you have time is the place to enjoy Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken. Mr. Tony goes out of his way to make sure the chicken bone-in, Original, Spicy Crispy or Famous Baked is done to protection. Their strips are tender with the most tasty breading you’ve ever had. And then there’s the Spicy Double Dippers. Just enough heat and chicken so tender it will melt in your mouth but with a golden brown crispy outside that its insane. Pair it with their Buffalo Sauce or annother of their delicious sauces and you will know how they get their name(Double Dippers). At this store they have fried pickles that are better than most casual restaurants but has that Famous Crust found on their Original Chicken. The sides here are delicious and hot and range from my favorite, Potato Wedges that pop when you bite them and are made from fresh whole potatoes unlike the competitions frozen in a bag type. Homestyle Green Beans, Potato Salad, Corn on the Cob and their best Slaw in sizes double the size of their competitors. Mr. Tony and Brenda and his crew take the Lees Brand to the next level and when Mr. Tony come out to the dining room and ask of diners if everything was okay he really means it. He cares about his restaurant, his food and his customers. I know the owner should invest in some more comfortable dining room updates like Wi-Fi and a TV with some new seating and HVAC that works consistently. Mr Tony is worth double what ever he gets paid. He’s the reason we all keep going back to eat at Lee’s and his view of a delicious chicken recipe he created in 1966. Don’t forgot to try their Pot Pies, Chicken Fried Stakes, Gizzards & Livers and special lung time meals. And as always they accept any«Chicken Coupons» from any competition.

Just had to compare Lee’s up against the timeless Kentucky Fried Chicken, especially in the state where Colonel Sanders started it all. Lee’s chicken was good, but did not measure up to the 7 herbs and spices found in KFC’s original recipe. It did, however, have much tastier(but fattier) biscuits. These are the best biscuits I’ve tried at a fast food chicken restaurant, even better than Church’s only saving grace honey glazed biscuits. The mashed potatoes were a little bland compared to KFC’s, but the biggest disappointment was their potato wedges. They were of worse quality than those old ones found at Walmart, unacceptable how poorly prepared they were. All in all, I would come back for those biscuits.

I don’t know why this place isn’t everywhere. We stopped at one in Fort Wayne Indiana, the chicken strips were awesome!!! We went back to lees in Kentucky the food is so great! I would much rather eat at lees than at Popeyes, KFC, or church’s any day. I hope they come to Texas one day.
